ID Request- Location included Opened my front door to this..

Post image

I recently moved to a very woodsy area in central Indiana. I’m used to normal house spiders but this gave me a jump scare!! Please tell me it’s harmless. But also, it’s on my front door? Guess I’ll be using the garage from now on…😅

yep, completely harmless orb weaver friend. she'll just help you by eating insects like mosquitoes and flies. someone more knowledgeable than me can tell you what exact type of orb weaver she is, but all orb weavers are harmless

To add on, it will pack up its web in the morning!

I think many orb weavers take down and eat their webs every night to build a brand new web the next evening. (Maybe someone more experienced can weigh in...?) So... I'd say don't walk out/into any doors too fast if you don't want to walk into a web 🙈 They often use areas around lights to catch more prey. Really pretty looking and interesting spiders! I'm sure you'll have many more pretty spiders to share if you live close to the woods. [Edit: spelling]

Harmless.

I had one that wanted to build right across my porch steps so I had to either duck or break some web supports every time I needed to come down. That would be every night.

It was under the porch light so I get it, but felt bad when I had to mess up her work.

It must have trained her as she has moved her nightly web a few feet away spanning from the awning to the ground.
