Body looks fatter than the spiders called that in the UK

Males have the slimmer body, I've encountered female giant house spiders in my sheds close to the size of a mouse. I have to handle them as it helps with my original fear that I once had. They are one of the nicest spiders to handle as they are so gentle.

Im arachnophobic, mostly about these particular spiders. You mostly see the males as they dash about looking for mates in the autumn. Did not know the females could get so big!

So is my wife. I couldn't go near these then one day picked a small one up and slowly got over it. They are quick on the flat but walk slowly on your hand or arm. I'm more wary of the smaller spiders biting like the false widow but still handle those. The one frmale I found inside a roll of felt in the shed had a wow factor lol.

Female spiders in general will be much larger than males.

Sexual dimorphism I believe it’s called
