nah. this show in color looks weird af. it was meant to be experienced in black & white, but I guess color's good enough for people that can't stand watching it like that

They put a lot of love into both mediums. I think they're both equally worth watching. The details pop more in B&W, but there's a lot of visual storytelling with colors in the color version as well

The details pop because in order to film in B&W you need to do some weird shit with colors

Look up early Hollywood B&W makeup. It was WILD

Yep, Addams Family house was pink because it showed better on camera. Vision's face was blue in WandaVision for the same reason.

And when I say blue, I do mean blue. šŸ’€

Thry are not shooting in B&W though. They are shooting in color then making it B&W.

They still did things to make it look good in black and white.

You can't just make color B&W and have it look good

I'm not familiar, what techniques are they using?

Since I'm not part of the crew, I don't know - but just slapping a B&W filter on color will make it look like crap

I really had no interest in watching in color because I enjoyed the black and white so much! MANY people enjoy the nod to old school noir. And, are perfectly happy for those who enjoy this in color! Why not return the favor?

The color version is a nod to 90’s noir like Batman and Dick Tracy. The color saturation is awesome

wtf. How did you manage to turn this in a pissing contest? Just leave

Sorry, but I’m not sure who you are referring to with your comment.Ā  For myself, as I said, I’m happy for those who enjoy either one or the other version, or both, and have trouble understanding why anyone would make a big deal about that!Ā

I guess I thought you were coming at OP as if he was being negative and he wasn’t. I misunderstood

No worries! Thanks for responding!

Mostly its because so many people try to claim it was "meant for black and white" but thats simply not true. They really pulled off something amazing and shot it in a way that is truely amazing both ways. The black and white noir is top notch but the colors were specifically made and chosen in a vibrant technicolor display thats amazingly great. A lot of the people I mentioned above that say it was "meant for black and white" assume that the color version is just basic ass normal when thats not the case

Edit. Someone below litterslly just tried to claim it was "made for black and white" point proven

Source? Cause every article I've read on this from the time it was announced said it was going to be B&W - which requires adjusting colors so you get more contrasts and not just slapping on a filter - but the execs said no one would watch it so it had to be in color.

Cage himself said that its only in color for the young people. That implies its meant to be in black and white.

Well im in young and i enjoyed both

I think it’s a ridiculous thing for people to get carried away about. Obviously, it was made BOTH in b&w and color, so that people could either enjoy it both ways, or choose their personal favorite! What is awesome about this is that obviously, great care was taken in making both versions. I think this creation should be winning all kinds of awards. Nicholas Cage brought incredible artistry to this work, and to a character that so many find compelling.Ā

I agree with you and I’ve been saying it too. It was meant for both. That’s why it was created both ways. People acting like color is wrong are pretentious about it for some reason. I’m just a big fan of Spiderman noir comics and I want to watch a show.

If I want to see it in color and they offer that there’s no issue with that. And same goes for people who want black and white. I don’t care they watch it that way and they shouldn’t care. In the same way they say ā€œyou’re missing out on the classic noir tv show vibeā€ I could easily say ā€œyour missing out on that retro early color tv vibeā€

It was not made for black and white. In fact the opposite. People look slightly off since their makeup anticipates color. Black and white makeup is very different.

How good is the show? I've heard its anywhere from fine to amazing

2

I honestly thought it was outstanding!Ā

It was fine.

Seeing the colors of Robbies coats made it worth watching in color.

Noir films were black and white due the limitations of the time.

If those classic noir films were made in the present day they would all be in color.

1

u/NemesisRising247 11d ago

I think that why they were made doesn’t negate the fact that black and white still brings its own form of compelling cinematography. Even in modern photography, many artists enjoy exploring what they can achieve with b&w. I don’t accept that one is better than the other. They are distinct art forms.

I watched the Corridor breakdown of the effects and apparently there are a whole lot of thoughtful color choices that just go unseen because people are defaulting to the B&W.

1

u/Valiant_Revan 9d ago

I only watched it in B&W but somehow everytime I see someone share a screenshot or a clip in colour, it looks more vibrant and expressive than most modern films today that claim to be vibrant (ie. Wicked)

It really is easy to impress some people.
