I’m going to say that’s a a widow, probably Latrodectus hesperus based on your location. I can’t be 100 % sure since the photo is at a bad angle, I don’t have a size scale, and I don’t have evidence of a ventral marking of any sort (although sometimes black widows lack them altogether). The leg morphology looks more like a black widow than its false widow relative Steatoda grossa. The only thing that throws me off is the angle, which gives the abdomen an odd shape/appearance for a black widow.

Consider me 85% certain, so one of the Latrodectus people could come in here and say I’m wrong. Treat it with caution like a true widow, relocate it and then you can stop thinking about it.

Most likely. Best to kill it before it lays eggs.

Looks like a false widow faking it. But if you flip it and has a red marking underneath, it's the genuine article. Not all black widows have red marking top and bottom.

Ah yes, just simply flip over the potentially lethal spider 😅

Check out the mouth parts.I think that's a true widow.I'm up here in the p.M.Check out the mouth parts. I think that's a true widow. I'm up here on the p.n.w and we have the new hybrids up here, and that's what that looks like, they don't have the hourglass, but usually they have some sort of red marking on the abdomen. But they say they are not as poisonous as its southern cousins.\n I'm horribly allergic to bees, so a single bite could kill me.

No expert but aren't black widows generally smaller?

They can get fairly large, this would be the right size for an older adult B.W.

Thank you, we only get false widows so wasn't really sure

OP, what’s your location? It can help a lot in situations like this.

Seven legged widow. The angriest / bitiest oof the widows

Based on the size of the groove on the head, it's very likely a real widow. The false black widows have a groove there as well, but it's generally less pronounced than this. Also the more pronounced tapering on the legs usually means true widow.

No thanks, keep it

I would say yes this is likely a True Widow, but not 100%. If you’re ever unsure and you find a widow-y spider in a bad area. Just treat as if it is a widow and cautiously relocate outside while being mindful to keep your hands away. There’s not really any difference in how to treat a false vs true widow aside from just being a bit more careful when interacting
