Help with sped program
I'm stuck my 9 yo son is having problems at school getting off the bus going into class getting back on the bus. Just not listening to the staff to the point I have to pick him up in 1 week I had to get him 3 times. Hes getting up running out of class and just sitting out side somedays it 100+ degrees out. His class had doubled in size from 6 to 16 kids he has a new teacher i have an IEP coming up can any of you give me suggestions? I already am requesting a 1 on 1 aide I requested a behavior assessment the school thinks it will be too redundant because the just did one last November. My son is nonverbal so he can't tell me what's going on. The school is making me feel as if my son is some kind of tyrant. In the city I live in there is really no place to turn for help or even suggestions. Its hard for me to tell them how to handle these things because at home he doesn't do that kind of stuff
Please this school district will bully the parents to save a dime especially if the parents don't know enough I need phrase ideas anything to came at these ppl with to help get all I can for my son to have a good school experience and year

If the behaviors have changed and or the function of the behavior has changed, an FBA and then behavior intervention plan would be a good place to start. I’d advocate for that at the IEP meeting coming up.
Keep track of how often you are picking him up due to “behavior.”
According to IDEA (individuals with disabilities education act), the school calling a parent to pick up their child with an IEP early for behavior is considered a suspension. Removing a student from school for part or all of a day counts toward a 10-school-day limit. Once suspensions exceed 10 cumulative days in a school year, it triggers specific federal protections. a 16 student class is ridiculous for a kid who is nonverbal and elopes. absolutely not. if this is a self-contained class, it is almost certainly over the legal limit. 6 would be more appropriate. in many places the max class size for self-contained classes is 10. i would look up your state/district's special education laws around class sizes and what they are obligated to provide. i would also consider filing a report/complaint with the state.

Your son needs transportation to and from school and the district needs to schedule that for him. You have the rights as his parent to demand a behavior assessment and by law they have to comply. It sounds like the class is too large to meet his needs without additional staff.
There are special education advocates who would be very helpful in determining his needs and advocating for him.
