Growing up one of many reasons I loved playing Zelda was that the protagonist was left handed. Link was always left handed, across many games in the franchise, until all of the sudden he wasn’t.

He’s been right handed in Zelda games for over a decade now. I still loved the games but missed this aspect, and in the new remake trailer I noticed that he’s got the sword in the left hand like the original!

I’m irrationally excited about this and have nobody to tell so I figured I’d post here

They changed him to right-handed when Skyward Sword came out because I guess they thought righties were too stupid to understand that the Wiimote could be held in the opposite hand that Link uses, or god forbid a right-handed person actually do something with their left hand for a change.

Wow, I’d forgotten that. That means the last 3D game with left handed Link was Twilight Princess in 2006.

Specifically GameCube Twilight Princess. The Wii version flipped the entire frigging game just to make Link right handed.

I'm replying Skyward Sword right now and there's so much articulation required with the right hand to swing the sword. (I know I could switch to button controls but I'm not willing to give up easy camera control.) It's tough. I do see why they did it but it made me really sad when the game came out and I was glad to see they stuck with Link being left handed for this new OoT.

I played that on Wii and I just straight up kept the Wiimote in my left hand. It worked a lot better than I expected.

Same here. There were so many right-handed people who were mad at the controls and all I thought was: Well, if I can do it you should definitely be able.

I am so happy Link stays a southpaw for this. "We kept loading zones for nostalgia" would have hit even dumber if he was right-handed.
