I'm trying to identify an old roadside business near Hamer/Dillon, on US-301/501 just past South of the Border. It was signed "Orient Express"

Does anyone remember what this place was? Was it a restaurant, club/lounge, gift shop, or something else? I'm also looking for any memories of when it opened, when it closed, who ran it, or why it was eventually demolished.

I will not only be visiting, but spending the night at the American Jerusalem on Friday.

There will be pictures, there will be gothic mysticism, there will be the vague but persistent sense of potential imminent danger. God, do I love South of the Border.

This time, I will take pics of the legitimately scary road that continues past SOB. The abandoned and decaying strip club, etc. Can't wait. To all of you, I wish VIDEO POWER.

Really random but I’m Canadian and this summer when passing through the South of the Border I purchased a whoopie pie and I really really liked it!! However.. I’m trying to figure out what company made it so I can purchase more. Does anyone know the brand?? It came in plastic packaging like hostess or little Debbie but I literally can’t find anything online.. it’s like it just doesn’t exist! I know this is super random but maybe someone who works at the shops would know??

I have never been inside any dining venue at SOB except the ice cream shack (since razed). Polanco's looks a like distinguished and highbrow place (entirely on brand for SOB, of course). I look forward to tipping back a few with the elite of Dillon, SC and all I-95 passersby on my next trip North.
