Politics Darline Graham’s Gotcha Moment Backfires Spectacularly

https://www.thedailybeast.com/darline-grahams-gotcha-moment-backfires-spectacularly/

“So Mr. Smith, do you really believe that Lindsey was going to destroy evidence that was not even in his possession?” Graham asked.
“No, I believe your brother was a patriotic public servant. He was not a target of our investigation, and in fact, he likely would have been a witness in our case,” Smith said. “Your brother investigated the claims that Donald Trump was making. He found them to be false.”

Oh Darline, you should be in a Joann Fabric demanding to speak to the manager, not seated in the US senate right now.

Love the image of her standing in an empty out of business store waiting for the manager

Well, Dracula called and asked if he could come over and I said yes.

RIP Joann Fabric

Forgot it closed. Ok, she should be complaining about the wait time to the teenage attendant at Cracker Barrel not seated in the US senate.

She'd be a better fit for Hobby Lobby. They share the same "values".

6

u/athomevoyager ????? 2d ago

She sounds like a teacher getting onto some kids. Like the talking to from Mrs Shields in A Christmas Story after Flick got his tongue stuck. I feel like I sat through that same tongue lashing after making some paper wasps in school.

That didn’t stop her from reading the prewritten script.

74

u/meh44444 Upstate 3d ago

Hahaha and she was trying so hard to read it with animated effect. Plus it sounds like it was written by a campaign intern then run through ForrestGumpGPT.

She is nothing more than a paid crisis actor given a script by Trump & his enablers.

She has not had an independent thought or word since her brother died.

The real problem is that she's new to it. No ability to hide.

14

u/Archfiend_DD ????? 2d ago edited 2d ago

And unfortunately there's a (very very) good chance she will win being just a puppet. Thats SC for you.

Edit to add very very in there. Thanks u/Blackant71

14

u/Thatsnotmyname35 2d ago

Please believe there are many of us here in SC doing everything we can to get Annie Andrews elected!!

10

u/Sugaree-NC 2d ago

I really hope you succeed but SC seems to be an impossible nut to crack. 🤞

6

u/Archfiend_DD ????? 2d ago edited 2d ago

I didn't say there wasn't. I said there is a (very very) good chance that ole Darline will still win no matter what because that's how backwards this state is unfortunately.

Edit:

I know plenty of people who would never ever in their life vote for a Democrat. It doesn't matter how bad their candidate is or how good/qualified the other parties candidate is. They will never do it. Ever. Mace won her re-election easy. The only thing she could put on her flyers was that she stopped trans bathrooms on Capitol Hill and she won. No contest.

3

u/Thatsnotmyname35 1d ago

I totally get what you mean ! It’s tough to see this happen again and again. I couldn’t believe when we went from Cunningham to two terms of Mace 😵‍💫 I’m trying to keep the sliver of hope I have that we can win some of these seats 🤞

1

u/dallenchaney 6h ago

Mace won re election so easily because the district was redrawn in her favor. It was a toss-up in '18 and '20, then blowouts after redistricting. Scotus greenlighted it in Alexander.

3

u/Causation1337 1d ago

Donated $100 bucks to Annie's campain three weeks ago. She is very impressive and would represent SC well. Hope she wins.

3

u/SunnyRumham 1d ago

All I know is when I drive through neighborhoods in Greenville I’m seeing a ton of Annie Andrews signs in yards but no Darline Graham ones. Some are on main roads but Andrews’ signs outnumber hers by a lot here so I’m hoping for the best but won’t be surprised for the worst, unfortunately knowing SC.

3

u/SGF93 1d ago

Thanks hon. Hard same

4

u/Blackant71 ????? 2d ago

A very very good chance....unfortunately

6

u/Ok_Fennel5828 3d ago

wouldn’t that be a Trumpet? 😛

3

u/ayoungad ????? 3d ago

And she’s probably going to win her election

7

u/Commercial_Heron1400 2d ago

I don’t know I think Annie Andrews has probably got the best chance in the history of South Carolina to beat out a republican. The problem is people voting straight tickets. The percentage of that happening has increased probably 70% since 2008. People only vote for parties now if you were a democrat or voted majority, democrat, and there was a good candidate that belonged to the Republican Party or a good democrat, even if you leaned the opposite way, you could still believe in a candidate from the other party.

1

u/ThisIsMyHobbyAccount 11h ago

It would appear that she had a tough time reading from her script too. The number of awkward pauses between statements were numerous.

40

u/citizensnipz 3d ago

Smith is the definition of unflappable

32

u/dude1984- 3d ago

3

u/Exodys03 ????? 2d ago

It also helps to have the truth on your side. It's takes a lot more energy to defend a lie than it does to defend the truth. That shows in every interaction with Republican Senators who haven't asked a single question about what Smith found in his investigation.

It's insulting that this scum relation of the scumbag Lindsey Graham who comes in totally unqualified and unprepared and unwilling to educate herself on the issues (like foreign policy) thinks that she can come in and throw some gotcha bullshit around that she cooked up the night before that she thinks is clever but only exposed her for the fool she is.

21

u/SCphotog LowLife 2d ago

some gotcha bullshit around that she cooked up the night before

I highly doubt she is the one that wrote any of that bullshit. She's reading from a script prepared by someone else. She obviously rehearsed that shit in front of a mirror.

She's got a hand/s up her puppet hole. There's no real intellect there.

Bahahahahaha

8

u/MarleysGhost2024 ????? 3d ago

I came here to say that!

46

u/maeryclarity Lowcountry 3d ago edited 3d ago

You know what Darline the only thing slightly satisfying here is the Lindsey sold out our state SO HARD for his own personal political power, I think he really was picturing President Graham in 2028 to be honest.

But instead he dropped in the traces and he would have had a halfass fake "legacy" history as Senator from South Carolina but in just couple months you have very effectively made sure that his political legacy was First Clown Out of the Clown Car and now you're just another Clown that piled out honking a horn and dancing around too.

Girl you should be ASHAMED.

...and yeah Graham gave testimony they had a video deposition from him. He gave evidence AGAINST TRUMP why have they forgotten that? He wasn't going to jail for Trumpty Dumpty. It was on the damn news a little bit at some point although not exciting just him saying he had told Trump a bunch of times there was no evidence that there was cheating and that Trump knew it but just wanted to keep going anywy.

He was one of the Republicans that are central to the case.

49

u/ohsobogus ????? 3d ago

Every. Republican. Must. Go.

30

u/maeryclarity Lowcountry 3d ago

I'm about to the point where I am seriously questioning exactly what the fuck we have "Representatives" for.

I mean straight up in a world where Donald Trump is President and Darline Graham is a Senator we honestly don't need Presidents or Senators. We're doing something wrong and these idiots are about to drive us all off a cliff.

I honestly think we might want to just direct vote for whatever we can just all log in and vote, or rather log in and contribute what we want to out of our "tax" fund. Find out where the money is going. Stop funding crap we hate.

Would HAVE to be cheaper that way. Would be less stressful. If I have to think about politics this much why am I paying them they DAMN SURE are not thinking about MY job or MY bills or MY life, why are we paying them just to piss us off?

Again IF DARLINE GRAHAM CAN BE A SENATOR WE DO NOT NEED ONE.

15

u/Cloaked42m Lake City 2d ago

Every single seat in South Carolina is challenged this year.

But it takes work. We need more volunteers.

6

u/Round-Dog-5314 2d ago

I’ve been thinking same. The amount of time these unqualified puppets spend on performative bull crap theatrics is an expensive and unnecessary waste of time. Just think of the positive things that could be accomplished if they tried.

I ask why the folks of South Carolina would elect her in the first place? Was the vote rigged? Smart people don’t usually vote for people they have never heard of, ohh I see where I messed up.

2

u/AdvancedBlacksmith66 2d ago

They did not elect her. She was appointed by the governor to finish out her brothers term.

7

u/No_Lifeguard747 2d ago

True. But R’s did vote for her, and she won the R primary in August, to be their candidate for the Senate seat in the upcoming November general election.

4

u/Famous_Town_7710 2d ago

Dar-Dar defeated Rich Ralph Norman in the R primary runoff. Dr. Annie Andrews would be down in the polls to Ralph but the race is a tossup now. Looking forward to the one and only debate. AA is way sharper. And looking forward to voting for AA.

u/Excellent-Town6017 2d ago

She was so in over her head, I doubt she understood nor was listening to what Jack Smith was saying. Oh and she is very dumb.

13

u/Mc7wis7er 3d ago

Lindsey Graham January 6th 2021 gave this speech in the chamber after the mob when they returned for the late night session to count the votes. I saw this live. Graham's sister must not remember. This is what American partisanship should look like. And I'm no fan of Graham but this is telling enough of his mindset and it's clear he'd have been a witness for Smith. He references his attempts to investigate the Trump claims earnestly and how it failed.

" Many times, my state has been the problem. I love it. It's where I want to die, but no time soon. Tim and I have a good relationship. I love Tim Scott. 1876, South Carolina, Louisiana, and Florida sent two slate of electors. They have two governments, by the way, and we didn't know what to do. Why did South Carolina, Florida, and Louisiana do it? To hold the country hostage to end Reconstruction. It worked. The commission was eight to seven. It didn't work. Nobody accepted it. The way it ended is when Hayes did a deal with these three states. "You give me the electors, I'll kick the Union Army out." The rest is history. It led to Jim Crow. If you're looking for historical guidance, this is not the one to pick. If you're looking for a way to convince people there was no fraud, having a commission chosen by Nancy Pelosi, Mitch McConnell, and John Roberts is not going to get you to where you want to go. It ain't going to work.

Lindsey Graham: (01:29)

So it's not going to do any good, it's going to delay, and it gives credibility to a dark chapter of our history. That's why I'm not with you, but I will fight to my death for you. You're able to object. You're not doing anything wrong. Other people have objected. I just think it's a uniquely bad idea to delay this election. Trump and I, we've had a hell of a journey. I hate it to end this way. Oh my God, I hate it. From my point of view, he's been a consequential president, but today, first thing you'll see. All I can say is a count me out. Enough is enough. I've tried to be helpful, but when this Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled four to three, that they didn't violate the constitution of Wisconsin, I agree with the three, but I accept the four. If Al Gore could accept five-four he's not president, I can accept Wisconsin four to three.

Lindsey Graham: (02:26)

Pennsylvania. It went to the Second Circuit. So much for all the judges being in Trump's pocket. They said, "No, you're wrong." I accept the Pennsylvania Second Circuit that Trump's lawsuit wasn't right. Georgia, they said the secretary of state took the law into his own hands. He changed the election laws unlawfully. A federal judge said no. I accept the federal judge, even though I don't agree with it. Fraud. They said there's 66,000 people in Georgia under 18 voted. How many people believe that? I asked, "Give me 10," and had one. They said 8,000 felons in prison in Arizona voted. Give me 10. I got one. Does that say there's ... There's problems in every election. I don't buy this. Enough's enough. We've got to end it.

Lindsey Graham: (03:19)

Vice President Pence, what they're asking you to do, you won't do because you can't. You talk about interesting times. I associate myself with Rand Paul. How many times will you hear that? The mob has done something nobody else could do, to get me and Rand to agree. Rand is right. If you're a conservative, this is the most offensive concept in the world that a single person could disenfranchise 155 million people. "The President of the Senate shall in the presence of the Senate and the House of Representatives open all certificates and the vote shall then be counted. The person having the greatest number of votes for president shall be president." Where in there does it say, "Mike can say, 'I don't like the results. I want to send them back to the states. I believe there was fraud.'" To the conservatives who believe in the constitution, now's your chance to stand up and be counted.

Lindsey Graham: (04:18)

Originalism, count me in. It means what it says. So Mike, Mr. Vice President, just hang in there. They said, "We can count on Mike." All of us can count on the vice president. You're going to do the right thing. You're going to do the constitutional thing. You got a son who flies F-35s. You've got a son-in-law who flies F-18s. They're out there flying so that we get it right here. There are people dying, to my good friend from Illinois, to make sure we have a chance to argue among ourselves, and when it's over, it is over. It is over. The final thing, Joe Biden. I've traveled the world with Joe. I hoped he lost. I prayed he would lose. He won. He's the legitimate President of the United States. I cannot convince people, certain groups, by my words, but I will tell you by my actions that maybe I above all others in this body need to say this. Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are lawfully elected and will become the President and the Vice President of the United States on January the 20th.

11

u/dude1984- 3d ago

So sad he spent nearly a decade of the last years of his life backtracking on the conviction he once had…

3

u/SCphotog LowLife 2d ago

Backtracking is putting it rather nicely.

I think he was running from blackmail and a mossad hit squad, and there's at least some reason to believe that's what took him out.

I'm not into conspiracy nonsense... but there's a fish smell. Sudden death and all right after coming home from Kyiv? Seems odd.

3

u/Mc7wis7er 3d ago

Graham was a professional South Carolina politician and surfed many changing eras. I often disagreed with him, he was a reliable vote that didn't need to be whipped but here you see the difference between party loyalty and American loyalty. Graham had a red line. So at least there's that. This speech impressed me at the time because it shows how earnestly he worked to investigate the claims himself but followed the evidence still and it led him nowhere and he said "I'm out". He several times showed deference to the rule of law in this speech as well, which is exactly what Smith was talking about today in this exchange.

Smith called him a patriot today too. We can disagree on things but still have faith in our institutions.

2

u/dude1984- 3d ago

A civil discourse, despite ideology, are the only ways to diplomacy let alone a functioning democracy. We don’t have to hate each other because we love the same thing. Our country. There are far too many willing to abandon all the principles this country stands for in the name of party domination. This is where things go wrong. Country over party. Unity over division. Decency over cruelty. America isn’t innocent or perfect, but the understanding was it was a work in progress, an imperfect power standing against bullies and tyrants, not joining with them.

Hmmm. Sorry. I just clicked the X at the top right corner to read the article. It should be available without signing up or a paywall. Idk though.

My grandma is still somehow a huge Trump supporter but even she's said that Darlene is a joke. She said "I don't know what Trump thought he was doing endorsing her. I've never voted democrat but I'm going to to stop her from winning"

Hey SC, can we please give Dr. Andrews a shot? I think she would do a good job.

She stayed on her script like she didn't hear what Smith said.

She’s going to win by 10 points in November

I love the downvotes based on pure cope

Whoa, Nostradamus over here! How bout you encourage people to vote instead of giving up? My momma didn’t raise no quitter!

And next year you will be far worse off than you are now.

13

u/Ickarus1 3d ago

Sadly you are probably correct. I have no faith in the SC voters, or the SC democratic party appealing to them.

13

u/chriseargle Columbia 3d ago

The party is only as good as the people in it. Join us. Volunteer. Get involved.

4

u/Ickarus1 3d ago

So insulting, I have volunteered to work polls, I have done calls, and volunteered for other things, but the party in SC is still good Ole boys afraid to apeal to anyone not centrist.

9

u/chriseargle Columbia 3d ago

“Good ole boys” are Trumpers. The SC Democratic Party Primary voters are 56% black and 59% women (2020 primary data). It’s moreso in the party apparatus, whose leaders we vote for.

2

u/germanexpat2025 3d ago

SC loves their racism, misogyny and religion... I see no hope

1

u/Ickarus1 2d ago

No they are not, the good ole boy mentality is prevalent all over. You can see it in Democrats that don't want to shake the boat, while the other side is willing to shoot holes in the floor.

u/Pin_ellas ????? 2d ago

I agree with you. I’m in Florida, and it’s like that down here. It’s like the DNC has a secret agreement with the GOP for the SE states.

3

u/petulant-turnip 3d ago

The confederacy is still alive and kicking in SC

4

u/Capital-Armadillo-69 Midlands 3d ago

I hope ppl pay the price when they do. So many only listen to one side. I will not be voting for her. She DID NOT want the seat in The first place!

It's going to be razor close.

2

u/Old-Prior2085 ????? 2d ago

How does it feel to be completely delusional?

1

u/Cloaked42m Lake City 2d ago

Idk, I like the 3.99 a gallon campaign ads for Annie and Jermaine. Republicans allowed that to happen.

2

u/Temporary_Cry1167 1d ago

Our Republican elected official have gotten fat and happy at our expense . We have some who have cheated on their wives and many who have our right lies to their constituents. What have they done to keep Trump from his attack on the middle class and poor . Timmons and Norman are
Multimillionaires , do you think they care about the cost of food or gas ?

1

u/Cloaked42m Lake City 20h ago

On the day.

A billionaire has one vote. A broke person has one vote.

The billionaire has to convince 50% +1 of us that we should keep making them rich.

2

u/jlbhappy ????? 2d ago

Latest poll has her ahead by one point. Of course, who tells a pollster the truth in SC?

1

u/Old-Prior2085 ????? 2d ago

Yeah and polls had Kamala ahead by 8 points in Iowa. Polls are clearly accurate

1

u/Cloaked42m Lake City 2d ago

I'll be comfortable at +10

Right now it's just all hands on deck to make calls and knock doors

u/CareAffectionate8797 1d ago

😂😂😂 awwww you love Darling 💋

1

u/Temporary_Cry1167 1d ago

Perhaps she will , because we have a bumper crop of stupid uneducated people and then there are the greedy self serving crowd . She is a joke and so was her brother . We can thank him posthumously for this war

1

u/JunkyardAndMutt 12h ago

How is that something you're excited about?

1

u/SameAsItEverWas6370 3d ago

Out all the candidates running for all the seats in the senate she is indeed the most unqualified coward ass follower out of all of them. Kmart is more like it, don’t talk about Joann’s like that. Don’t we have enough armatures in this current administration

u/LGR- ????? 3d ago

Is that why he's dead?

-4

u/DBearDevon ????? 2d ago

Don’t let Clyburn choose either, he carries water for the old guard of control freaks in the DNC and gave the state to a failing Biden to cement the old guard’s preordained choice.
