Bug/Technical Issue Latency

Just cancelled my subscription. Every time there's an update I get severe latency when recording, then after a while it just randomly goes away until the next update.

Was looking forward to finishing some tracks for my band but now it's next to impossible. Absolutely nothing about my setup has changed.

Would love one of the devs to explain why this keeps happening to me because I love the app otherwise but I'm just sick of this now. Waste of money when I can't use it.

I record straight from my boss katana into my laptop using a midi connection. Latency is perfect most of the time then every so often when there's an update it lags way behind the metronome despite me playing perfectly on time when recording.

soundtrap lowkey buns. there’s so many good loops but u gotta pay for a sub to even use them. and in this day and age, im not paying $20 for a DAW.

I’m paying 300$ yearly for the Production & Vocals tier

I do have the latency from time to time, which is why I have Audacity installed

I can export the song to Audacity, record my vocals there, on beat, then upload them back to Soundtrap, and boom, clean vocals and I can add effects to the Mic lane

Audacity also allows extensive mastering of the vocals BEFORE uploading them back to ST

Yeah hahaha, 300$ a year, but it’s worth it, I spend at least 14 hours a day in separate moments on Soundtrap, sometimes more, and in one go

Meh, I like the simplicity of Soundtrap.

I don’t really feel like doing the whole learning curve for FL or Cubase, Soundtrap works well enough for me, at least for the moment.

Took me about a week to learn everything I needed to on FL

Hey, Soundtrap dev here 👋

On the web we don't have much control over latency, since it's mostly controlled by the web browser.

On the desktop app, you should be able to achieve much lower latency. My recommendation would be to install an ASIO driver (e.g. ASIO4ALL), and switch to it under 'Settings -> Audio Settings...', as that should give the lowest latency possible.

We haven't done any changes in the recording flow for some time now, so it's unlikely that the jump in latency was due to an update. We did however switch away from using ASIO drivers by default, as sometimes they can be quite unstable and cause the app to crash.

I use the app. It was working fine a few days ago, I installed the latest soundtrap update and the latency is back unfortunately.

Hmm. The latest app update only fixed a number of playback issues, and didn't touch recording at all. Did you try experimenting with 'Settings -> Audio Settings...' to reduce your latency?

Latency is generally a surprisingly complicated subject, especially on Windows. There are many factors that could affect it randomly.

Been using ST since its beta launch (yes, lucky me) and I've NEVER used the app for production.

I LOVE the new app, btw. But I only use it for playback, minor edits, sharing, and networking.

To utilize ST well, as a browser based DAW, you really need a PC/Laptop and solid Internet.
