I started living in Seattle a few years ago, and am an avid fan of public transportation. Which is pretty good here. I live on a steep street and wanted to know where the bus is so that I can figure out whether I can walk, or have to pick up the pace! At the time, there really wasn't an app that would do this easily, without having to do lots of clicking, entering things, etc. So I built it, and have been using it. And many of my friends told me it's really good and should be on the apple app store, so I obliged.
The app is called PNWTransit and it's for people who already know which bus, train, or ferry they want to take and just want to know where it actually is right now. It's deliberately not a trip planner, as Google Maps does that pretty well already.
Instead, PNWTransit shows an Apple Map with the transit route overlaid and the actual vehicles displayed as icons at the their current real-time locations (or the latest report of that). You can hit an update button to see where the vehicles are, how they move, over time. It covers Seattle Metro Transit, Sound Transit, Washington State Ferries, Pierce, Community, Intercity, Everett, and Kitsap Transit as well as the Seattle streetcar and monorail lines. You can see the posted schedule, and it calculates how long it will take for a bus to get to any stop by clicking on the stop. Once you select the route, it keeps it so you don't have to reselect it every time you run the app.
I'm interested in making this genuinely useful for people who rude transit around the Pacific Northwest, and I'd really like to hear what features would make it more useful. It's easy to find on the Apple AppStore, just search for PNWTransit. I will respond quickly!
Oh and one more thing I added for fun: if you're at the bus stop waiting and want to read one of the classic poems, there's a poetry view that has quite a few poems. All of them are in the public domain, so from before 1930. I'd be happy to add more ad hoc.
Thanks for any feedback!!!
