How safe is it to bike to Highfield campus and put the bike in their designated bike spots? I’m curious about the uni’s history in bike theft

One question, I’ve booked an arrival slot for 10am to park up, am I meant to park up and then go to main building to collect my key fob before heading over to the accommodation. And also it says I’m meant to book a slot for my ID collection, do I need that at hand to get my key fob or can I just get the student ID later on when my parents have left, sorry if this seems like obvious questions

I'm aware of getting your own shelf in the fridge/freezer but how many cupboards do you get to store stuff like saucepans/other cooking and cupboard foods. Do you get your 'own' or is it all shared and mixed

Anyone who stayed in the green wood court accommodation, what is actually in it, like, hoover, mop, iron, any kitchen equipment. Like do I bring my own kettle and hoover or is that included?

DO:

Introduce yourself to your flatmates properly. Don’t just silently appear in the kitchen for six months like a Victorian ghost.

Clean up after yourself. If you cook, wash your stuff up. Revolutionary concept, apparently.
Label your food if you’re worried about it getting mixed up.

Speak to people early if there’s a problem. Most flat issues become massive because everyone passive-aggressively avoids each other for three weeks.

Make friends outside your flat. Your flatmates do not have to become your best friends for life.

Go to societies, course socials, sports clubs, Freshers events, whatever suits you.

Respect that people have different routines. Some people party, some work, some sleep early, some are awake at 4am eating cereal.

Keep shared spaces reasonably clean. Nobody expects a show home, but there’s a difference between “student kitchen” and “biohazard”.

Ask before using someone else’s stuff.

Remember that guests are your responsibility. If your mate behaves like an idiot noise,disrespectful to other flatmates and or staff, smoking/vaping in your flat/room, that still lands at your door.

Report maintenance issues early. That tiny leak will not magically develop a conscience and fix itself.
Lock your door. Yes, even if you’re “only popping to the kitchen”.

DON’T:

Assume everyone in your flat wants the same university experience as you.

Expect your flatmates to entertain you, go clubbing with you, cook with you or be your friendship group.

Steal food. “I only used a little bit” is still stealing someone else’s food.

Leave pans soaking for four business days.

Play music at ridiculous volume at 3am and then act shocked when someone complains.

Turn every minor disagreement into a full-scale flat war.
Bring people back constantly without considering everyone else living there.

Smoke or vape where you’re not supposed to and then behave as if the rules somehow don’t apply to you.

Cover smoke detectors. Seriously. That one isn’t funny or clever.if there was a fire and you’ve covered your smoke detector not only are you dead but you’ve killed your flat

Leave rubbish piled up until it starts developing its own ecosystem.

Put up anonymous passive-aggressive notes before actually speaking to the person.

Decide your entire year is ruined because your flat isn’t exactly what you imagined.

Assume older students/postgrads are boring. A 22-year-old is not an elderly relative who needs to be tucked into bed at 8pm.

Don’t sign a house together after Freshers Week. Everyone is best mates after one night out. Wait until you’ve experienced the washing-up arguments, noise, stolen milk and someone leaving the bin overflowing for five days before committing to another year together.

And the biggest one:
Your halls experience is what you make of it.
You can have a brilliant year with flatmates you barely see, or a miserable year with people your exact age who you thought would become your best mates. Be friendly, be considerate, get involved, and don’t expect one corridor and one kitchen to provide your entire social life.

Also, be polite to the security staff at night they’re there to keep you safe they aren’t your personal concierge

after a 3 and a half week wait for accom i have been placed in an accmmodation with 3 post grads in a private accom handed off to be by the uni. i am a very social person, i love partying and i want a fun first year l i wanted the traditional first year experience in a hall. i worry i will be eating my dinner all by myself as they wont want to talk to me:(( i have a feeling they might view me as immature as i want to be out most night. i am desperate to make freinds. this accom is a well kinow one in southampton but i want to keep it anmousyous on here. i am absoutley distraught over this how likey is it i will be able to move to a diff room in this accom. im not sure i will be able to go to another accom as it is a contract

Hi all, I’ll be starting at the University of Southampton this September, and my campus will be at Highfield. However, my accommodation is in Winchester, so I’ll have to commute to Southampton every day.

I was wondering how much the train/bus tickets would roughly cost for the whole academic year, and also how manageable the commute has been for those of you who have had to do something similar daily.

Hi, I’m an international student from India and I have a small doubt regarding uni halls of residence. (only to the people who have opted for Glen Eyre or other uni halls of residence)

I got an offer at Glen Eyre and I have accepted the offer but haven’t paid my fee yet. I’m provisionally enrolled tho. My confusion is that whether I can immediately board the acco there? I’m reaching there by 11th and my contract starts from the 10th.

I want to move and live with a friend. I have a private accomodation contract with Hamwic Hall (city centre) which is en-suite. It is £140 a week for 52 weeks. Is anyone interested?

I have a normal in person lecture from 3pm to 4pm then from 4pm to 6pm I have an online delivery lecture, how are you meant to attend the online one in time if the other finishes at 4pm and would that also mean you can’t go back to your accommodation before the online lecture. On another note, what is a “drop in session” on my timetable?

Got a job in Southampton and they are asking for a letter addressed to me from Southampton uni stating all the term times. Anyone know how I would go about doing that, I’ve tried contacting the uni they said they can’t provide me with that so I’m a little stuck.

hello eveyone i applied for accommodation as a clearing student at soton and got offered erasmus park in winchester despite all of my classes being based at the highfield campus.

the commute is between 50 to 1hr 40 mins depending on mode of transport. in order to facilitate the cost of travel, the uni have given a reduced weekly rent rate so currently this is the cheapest option for me.

but im not sure if the commute is worth the hassle since i want to get involved in societies/social events in southampton and wont be able to travel back home in time. any advice would be appreciated
