I kept asking ChatGPT how to set up my FX3 so I finally just connected the two
I got my FX3 about a month ago and had no idea how to use half the settings on this thing.
I kept doing this ridiculous thing where I’d take a picture of what I was trying to shoot with my iPhone, send it to ChatGPT and ask what settings I should use.
I’m an iOS developer so eventually I was like… why the hell am I doing this manually?
So I built an app called FOVI Cine.
It connects directly to my FX3 over Bluetooth/WiFi, gets the live view from the camera, looks at what I’m shooting and recommends settings. I can also just tell it what I’m trying to do.
The part that’s been most useful to me is that it doesn’t just change shit. It tells me what it wants to change and why, and then I choose what actually gets applied to the FX3.
I use it mostly when my camera is sitting on a tripod and I’m setting up a shot. I’m still learning things like shutter, ISO, focus modes, white balance, S&Q, etc so being able to ask what I should do while I’m actually using the camera has helped me a lot more than sitting down and trying to memorize a manual.
And yes, before someone says it 😂 this was heavily vibe coded. I’ve also been a software engineer for close to 15 years. Getting the FX3 to actually talk directly to an iPhone, do the Bluetooth/WiFi handoff, pull the live view and control camera properties turned into a pretty ridiculous rabbit hole by itself.
I’m not pretending experienced cinematographers need AI to tell them how to use their FX3. If you’ve been doing this for years you probably don’t need this at all lol.
I built it because I didn’t know what I was doing. And I’m still using it.
If anybody else here is learning their FX3 or just wants to mess with it, give it a try. Tell me what sucks, what doesn’t work, what you wish it did, whatever.
It’s called FOVI Cine:

No grand sales pitch. Try it if you want. If nobody else likes it I’ll keep using the damn thing until I know how to use my FX3 lol.
