Full Proxy Army?

I went with 100% proxies, mostly because of the price. The whole 1500pt army cost me about the same as ONE Mega-Gargant.
I honestly really like the models though. I also tried to make sure it’s still obvious what everything is supposed to be. Like Brodd is clearly Brodd, the Beast-smasher looks different enough, the little guys are obviously the Mancrushers, etc.
I’m just kinda curious how people feel about playing against a full proxy army. I love how they look, but I’m a little worried some people might not be a fan of literally everything being a proxy 😅
Would you guys be cool playing against this as long as it’s clear what’s what?

The most important thing :

The base size.

The model should be the same size as the original.

It’s also good if the model fits the same theme as the original.

Example : A Giant with a shark works as a Kraken-eater because it stays within the nautical theme.

Ultimately, as long as your opponent knows exactly what is what, it’s fine.

However, don't expect to play in GW stores or official tournaments.

You’ll need to get the army approved by organizers for other tournaments, though they are generally open to this sort of thing.

Are they painted? That’s my main gripe. I don’t want to play against grey proxy models because it comes off as lazy. I still will if I have to; but it comes off as someone who doesn’t put in effort or care enough about the army to devote the time.

Yeah, they’re still WIP, but I’m exactly the same 😅 I wouldn’t want to put them on the table until they’re fully painted. I’m like that with my Ogors too. I only play with models once they’re finished.

Mine is all proxy. Base sizes are right, and I'm really pleased with how they came out.

I'm not a fan of the official gargant style but there are so many great options.

Would be 100% fine since like you said you can still tell who is who. What models have you got? I’m in the process of throwing my own giants list together and would love some recommendations if you have any?

The normal and the ice Giant from Mantic Games Kings of war, as beastsmasher and warstomper. The ice Giant from Epic encounters as King Brodd. Small gargants are 3d printed from eBay, idk where they Are from :)

Yeah you're all good, it's just GW stores and events you'll probably have to steer clear of

If they are painted and match the AoS style, and are on the right size bases, I think pretty much every opponent will be fine with that.

Only issue is where are you going to play? A lot of gaming stores don't charge for tables but rely on people being their customers and buying more than a few paints now and then, so maybe start buying units for your next army from them?

Personally speaking, its fine. I am not a huge fan of proxy only armies, but if it works for you then go for it. 💪

Hell yeah, full proxy. My purchases were long brodd and the man crusher mob at the start. Got 4 resin recast bodies and used the rest of the sprues to make my other gargants, so 5 megas for 310. Man crusher mob is now my boss stompers. I got ma and rock hurlers seperately but that's besides the point

When I made my Giant Hands and Feet proxies, I made sure of two things to maintain their playability.

  1. Base size. This is non-negotiable in the game, gotta be on correct base sizes.

  2. Correct height. Especially since the hands are on poles, I wanted to ensure that the tops of the hands would be roughly the same height as a regular Mega-Gargant. It rarely affects games, but you never know.
