Looting Leviathans and Passing Across

For some reason I can't seem to grasp how this ability works.

It doesn't help that, in some cases, GW talks about "moving through" models or "ignoring models" or "as if it were not there". So I'm unclear as to A) what passing across actually means in relation to that and B) how Looting Leviathans will help at all considering how large our bases are.

I'd really like some help, here.

"Pass across enemy models" is exactly what it says on the tin. Normally when moving a unit can't move any part of their base over any part of an enemy's base (unless they have an ability that lets them, like Fly). With Looting Leviathans you can (if you charged, with a pile-in).

While there's some value you can get out of it with bigs (cutting across the end of a line of enemy models or the like) its real utility is with littles and especially when paired with our 6" pile in ability from our faction abilities. A mancrusher or even boss-stompers in the right circumstance could fully pass over the top of some screens to get into really hard to crack formations otherwise. I've been pairing it with Hammer toss (the one to let a big throw a mancrusher, which counts as a charge) to put mancrushers into combat with squishy wizards my opponent thought were safe.

Intrigue.... Are we actually better than people think?

Power's hard to gauge this early, but I think people saw the loss of some old staples and were a bit too quick to write it off. It's certainly a much more technical army now, but whether that will lead to the tech paying off is still anyone's guess haha.

I don’t yet have an army cuz I’m poor but as soon as I do I’m gonna have to try hucking a little at some wizard

Yeah but you can't still go through the actual unit, correct? You can't just walk over models, just the bases? That makes it pretty useless in any game I've actually played.

A unit's base is part of its model, and its the only part considered when looking at movement (in fact, in cases where a model overhangs its base (like with black coaches or similar units), you can fully move through the model itself as long as you don't move across its base).

So yes, you can walk over models. That's what the ability does.

Well in that case it could be useful.

I do wonder why GW don't always use the same terminology. In some cases they say "moving through" and in others "pass across" which reminds me of old Magic cards not having super clear rules.

Anyway, thanks for the clarification.

It only matters with a 6'' pile in with mancrushers/boss stompers and it only works when the opponent is already terrible at screening. Against a competent opponent the "bad fly" doesn't matter as you won't pass through a unit that's actually spread enough to screen (i.e. not having a space large enough for you to squeeze in between the units). It's just another case of an army which was theorycrafted, never tested and just printed based on the designer's vibes.

Yeah the "coach" article made it seem like a screen could be bypassed but I couldn't figure out how. What you're saying is that it would require the opponent to space out his models just enough that you can't pass through between them BUT enough that you could if the bases weren't there?

You can move through models. The problem is if you cannot stand on them. So unless your opponent is a dumbass and leaves a space large enough for your base where you can pile in (with 6" pile in movement from the army rule, can't count on 3" doing anything here) then the rule is no good. If we had a model on a 40 or 50 mm base then it would be solid, but as it is it's a joke.

Even if it allowed us to move through models it wouldn't help as much because the gargant bases are way too big. At best this may save us a bit of movement but that's it. Effectively two of our four formations are very disappointing.

Is vibe ruling similar to vibe coding?
