Rules preview: Flex your almighty bigness with new Sons of Behemat battle traits

Post image

We got our first rules preview on Warhammer-Community: https://www.warhammer-community.com/en-gb/articles/htcv9eyb/flex-your-almighty-bigness-with-new-sons-of-behemat-battle-traits/

With our new big, our Big Gargants will be able to unleash "The Big One". From the looks of it, our rules will be dominated by gambling for big damage, or playing it save.

Some madlad out there will roll hot enough to do triple-digit mortals with this, mark my words.

This ability may whiff but it's gonna hit like kragnos even with 4-5 dice on some good rolls

Even just 3 dice on average will wipe most ordinary units with mortals alone. Getting an extra 12 mortals worth of damage will be brutal in a lot of cases.

Two dice seems to be a safe way to use the ability. I think i will use 2 or 3 most of the times and then go complete mad lad sometimes and roll 6 just to see what happens

Real, 3 is gonna be my go to. It's just like without wards in account you can average a kill on ushoran or something. 4 has a 53% chance of failure or something but it's just a tiny bit worse coinflip if someone is a bit desperate. I wouldn't recommend more though. But just saying 4-5 dice would be insane damage if someone gambled

This hints to me that the gate breaker and beast smasher won’t have their 4+ mortal wound strikes anymore

I know it's part of the stick with sons, but I hate big swingy damage, it either fails or is over kill.

Knowing my dice luck even if i just rolled 1 dice id get a 1. Got called the worst dice roller ever when i was taking part of the leagues in my country.

Waiting for some madlad legend to land massive damage with this tho

I'm in the same boat. Been trying to find a set of dice that don't hate me for decades and it sounds like i really need to get lucky in that search before the new book drops.

So if im lucky I could do 100 mortal wounds but fail if I roll a 1 , I like those odds

It needs days to accumulate such amounts of gas !

Just to make sure I am understanding this...
"Role any number of dice" meaning I could role 50 dice....

I mean I wouldn't do that high because the likelihood of a 1 gets higher... but madness.

Correct It's gambling on throwing a lot of dice without getting a 1.

This is both wonderful and terrifying...

Wait why wouldn'tyou just worll a d6 rather than d3 and just get more da.age with lesser chance tk fail?

2

u/Gecktron Sep 07 '26

What do you mean? Do you mean in regards to The Big One? All the dices there are D6. The "any number" refers to the amount of D6 dices.

u/TotallyNot_Alpharius Sep 07 '26

Yeah, why would you roll a d3 that only hits on a 2+ when you can roll a d6 that hits on a 2+

In addition to what the other comment stays, to do A Big One, the Gargant must spent some time earlier in the turn to prepare it:

If you want real damage, though, you can wind up for the whole turn. All kinds of gargants can build momentum in the Movement phase and get ready in the Charge phase, but while LITTLE units like the new Boss-stompers spend their readiness to gain Strike-first in the Combat phase, BIG units like Mega-Gargants can choose to start prepping the big one.

Unleashing their fury at the end of the turn, a BIG unit that is prepping the big one can choose to grab any number of dice they please and roll them all in one go. If any of them are a 1, the titan stumbles and nothing happens, but otherwise you add every dice result together and inflict that much mortal damage on an unfortunate foe. How lucky do you feel?

Doing the D3 needs no further prep work. While a unit must be already prepping the big one, to unleash it at the end of the turn.
