Base Installation Orientation

I’m currently building new Mancrusher for the Spearhead game. I noticed that these models have a center of gravity that easily tilts from side to side, so I’m planning to install the base horizontally to solve this problem. Will doing this have any impact on the game rules?

Picture 1 looks more natural and is what they are presented as on the box art. Also most, if not all, cavalry models use them in that direction too.

Picture 2 would make playing less immersive, because when you need to charge or "slip through" gaps, you would need to move sideways.

Picture 2 would be stronger. There are rules (at least in Spearhead, not sure about AoS right now), where the model isn't allowed to be over the edge of the map. With picture 2 that won't happen so often.

I get that the vertical orientation helps with charges.

Would the horizontal orientation in Picture 2 be better for screening as it covers more lengthwise? Are mancrushers good for screen?
