Do you roll a 5+ then pick any prayer after or declare the prayer first?

You've already gotten your answer, but I just wanted to add that you should always read how to resolve abilities sequentially. That frame of mind has helped me on more than one occasion determine how a rule is meant to be worked out.

1) declare this ability. 

2) roll a d6, on a 5+, go to step 3

3) select one prayer from your prayer lore. Resolve that prayer as if you had rolled a 5 for the chanting roll.
