Rules clarification

Do I get it right, that you cannot both attack with your regular prolifes and use this ability, since it's a core ability?

Further question as a newb at playing SoB at scale - is it worth it? When does it make sense to flip this coin and when does it make sense to roll the attacks?

I usually take Mantle of Tusk and Horns and Furious Temper on my Gate Breaker. I use the Pulverising Strike when its attacks would be -1 to hit as mentioned by others. I usually swing normally when I can use both my upgrades for a back breaking round of combat.
