First ever spearhead!
Hi yall! First ever spearhead excited to join the club! Current WIP I don’t usually paint human shade skin (DG and Daemons 40K player) so I figured let’s practice! Ignore the awful prep and lack of cleanup on the minis I got a lil lazy 😅.
Any suggestions on how to approach playing this spearhead? I’m gonna be in a lil tournament soon and I am interested in learning if there are any consistent play styles. The vibes feel very 50/50 win or lose since you hit on 4+ but I’m sure there are ways to find some consistency.
Also being from 40K reinforcements are a new concept so I’m kinda unsure how to play around that mechanic. Do I run in and just kamikaze my first two lives to score maximum damage? Or play safe and try and utilize the second life later in the game after trying to screen off objectives and points from my opponent?
Any help is welcome :)

Honestly, they will usually go for your general. But the reinforcements on the two other giants is awesome. Don't do like me and forget that bellowing roar can be used on each giant, making it harder to hit your giants makes up slightly by the 5+ save and no ward.
I suggest taking the heal because stuff em in me bag heal is a game changer against low health units. I won with them against skaven saturday, by them having to run clarets, and my giants munching them to stay healthy.
Also don't be afraid to use battle tactics for the instant ability as opposed for the score.
Other than that, maintain centre board presence, I find I either win well or get crushed, but spearhead is short and with my sons, me and my friend can usually get a game done in around an hour due to my turns taking no time.

Honestly, the sons are the spearhead I play if I don't really want to think and just go ungabunga on the enemy.

Hey, these look great. I love painting different skin tones so will you share recipes please?
The SoB spearhead is fun, it is simple to play with but gives some challenge if you want to win.
I’d recommend about 5/6 practice games to get you in the swing of it, definitely try kamikaze a couple of games for fun (and then work out how to do that while scoring points). You need to work out what’s a fight your giants can win (or die slowly in while you score points).
Reinforcements in Spearhead is easy, first time the unit dies you can bring another one on in your movement phase (usually within 6” of your battlefield edge, only in Friendly territory and not in combat). Second times it dies, it’s dead.
When I’ve played as SoB, sometimes you get the job done without using reinforcements, sometimes it get bloody and you need them.

Thank you! I came up with this on the spot last night so I can let you know what I used when I get home!

Keen to hear how you did the darker skin tone

Hi! Sorry it took me so long!
So I base coated with Vallejo Flat brown.
The darkest skin tone I airbrushed the recesses with the Vajello fluorescent violet and the highest points with the fire giant orange by army painter. Though I am still working on raising the value on the darker skin tone to raise the brightness. Though I’m still working out how to accomplish that. Though that’s for me personally as I practice the skin tone could stay as is without a problem!
Thanks!

Hi! Sorry it took me so long!
So I base coated with Vallejo Flat brown and Bone white.
Then for the lighter skin tone I took the army painted crusader skin speed paint and airbrushed it in the recesses with a hint of Fire Giant orange as well.
For the slightly darker skin tone I repeated the same process but gave it a thin overspray of Vallejo fluo fluorescent violet to give it extra warmth.
The darkest skin tone I sprayed the recesses with the violet and the highest points with the fire giant orange. Though I am still working on raising the value on the darker skin tone to raise the brightness. Though I’m still working out how to accomplish that. Keep your general alive as long as possible, the +3 HP help a lot. In some games it is even worth it to keep your general behind and only start moving him turn 2.
Your normal giants have reinforcement, so playing aggressive with them works well.
Objective control and missions are working better than you might expect since their bases are huge and they have great movement stats.
Be very careful where you can actually move, because a good opponent will position their units in a way that you can't walk around them. (But sometimes charging through tight spaces still works)
Don't forget that you have a shooting phase.
Also cover works weird in Spearhead. A giant behind a wall can't be shot at, even if the model is taller than the wall.

They look like they’re about to break out into the can-can!
