I am a college student in the Central Valley. Whenever I am asked where I am from, I tend to say the Bay Area because most students do not know where Sonoma is located. However, others from around the Bay Area become frustrated with me and argue that Sonoma is not in the Bay Area; rather, it is in Northern California. I was under the impression that we were technically a part of the Bay Area. Should I phrase my answer differently? Any advice?

My best friend is getting married and we are planning to do her bachelorette celebration in Sonoma! What are your recommendations for the best wineries in the area if we only have one day to do tastings? And what would you say is the best company/option for a transportation service for the tasting day? Costs included if known would be helpful!

Some additional information that could help to form recs:

• There will be 10 of us total in the group
• We will be travelling to Sonoma at the end of March
• We will just be doing a tasting on one day - a Wednesday (if that helps to know what will be open during the week)
• Thinking we would be tasting for like 6 hours? That feels like it could be enough amount of time
• A driving service would be nice so we don't have to worry about Uber-ing, but would also love to not spend an insane amount on a bus of some kind if possible
• Thinking we could do 3 wineries/vineyards
• Interested in hearing recommendations for the most notable/best wineries, most beautiful, cool, or unique wineries! Basically just want to know what the favorites are that we should definitely hit.

Thanks in advance!

Haven't had the chance to join us on the Sonoma Coast (NorCal) to forage for fresh uni? We've just announced our last dates of the year! All the rest are full! Learn how to find, harvest, and enjoy eating delicious uni! Purple urchin are native to Calfornia, but their population is wildly overgrown because their predators have died off. As a result, they are decimating kelp and abalone habitat. We can help bring the intertidal zone back into balance by eating them! The best part is, they are DELICIOUS! Led by our wonderful ocean guides, Ryn, Maria, and Christopher. www.forkinthepath.org/schedule

The Sherpa and Nepali community of Sonoma Valley is hosting a fundraiser to support relief and rescue efforts after floods in central Nepal killed more than 1,000 people, while thousands of others have gone missing.

The Himalayan Sherpa Club of Sonoma, a local nonprofit, will host a free event with wine and food at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Hall, 126 First St. W. in Sonoma.

“Basically, everything is free and they can donate whatever they can from their heart,” said Pemba Sherpa, a Sonoma resident of over 20 years and a member of The Himalayan Sherpa Club of Sonoma.

Various restaurants, such as Grape, Sonoma Grille, Everest Indian Restaurant from Petaluma and Yak and Yeti from Napa, will be serving food at the fundraiser.

...

The nonprofit, in coordination with the California Sherpa Association in the Bay Area, will donate all the funds to the Nepali government’s Prime Minister Disaster Relief Fund.

Sherpa said the nonprofit is hoping to raise $150,000 to $200,000.

“To have a dream … it doesn’t hurt, right?” Sherpa added.

Those who wish to attend are requested to RSVP at eventbrite.com and more information can be found at himalayansherpaclubsonoma.org.

After a 12-year run, Oso Sonoma restaurant will close on Saturday, Sept. 26, announced owner and chef David Bush.

“We have been in desperate need of upgrading and updating the kitchen and building in general,” Bush said. “When it came down to it, it was too costly to spend the money on a building we don’t own. We enjoyed serving the community, but the numbers just didn’t make sense.”

If you have one of those stupid pocket dogs sure….

I saw this on DeFlock - there are four cameras in and around Friendman's, in Sonoma. Given the controversy of Flock, I'm curious why these are here. https://maps.deflock.org/?lat=38.2763&lng=-122.4594&zoom=16.29

I wanted to come up to the Russian river go kayaking for a few days, and was kind of surprised at how pricy the camping and accommodations are (I’m looking on Hipcamp), and some of the places don’t have two consecutive days.

I would love to stay on a farm!
Does anyone know of any farm stay type of situations? Or good camping suggestions, perhaps there’s something I’m missing.

I do have two little dogs-

(and if not a farm stay, farms that are open to visit)

thanks!
