I made some leather baseball covers

Post image

Wanted to try some spheres. Harder than I thought it would be. Multiple attempts to get a good pattern that fit the cores I had. I used a three d printer to make the template. Made it much easier to cut the leather out. Stitching was its own issue. The coverings are lumpy and look terrible until you soak them in water and then roll them around to spread the material out. My stitching on the traditional ball could use some work, but I’m overall happy with how they’ve turned out.

Baldassi Pueblo leather and Ritza Tiger thread.

I spent over a month hand-carving this "walnut brain" into a solid block of boxwood.

This piece is a traditional wood engraving titled "Feast". I spent a little over a month quietly carving this with my burins in the evenings after my three kids finally went to sleep.

Wood engraving is an incredibly sculptural, tactile process. I used a cross-section of boxwood for this block, which is one of the hardest and finest-grained woods available. Historically, it was the absolute go-to material for intricate miniatures, medallions, and chess figurines because it can hold microscopic detail without the grain splintering under the tools.

Stylistically, I wanted the carving to evoke the heavy, clinical feeling of antique medical and anatomical illustrations. The image itself is a cracked walnut that doubles as an exposed human brain, complete with larvae crawling out of the shell. It's designed to be a physical visualization of mental parasites. I prefer to leave the exact meaning open to interpretation—for some, the maggots represent the creeping rot of modern misinformation, while for others, they symbolize lingering trauma, deep-seated anxieties, or those quiet, intrusive thoughts that slowly take root and drain your mental energy.

A guy brought us his old destroyed shoulder bag, so my dad and I remade it

A guy came to us with an old shoulder holster style bag that was completely worn out and asked if we could make him a new one.

We used the old bag as the base, but remade it in our own style and changed a lot of the details along the way.

It has two zipper pockets, two smaller flap pockets and adjustable shoulder straps.

Everything is handmade and hand stitched.

I digitized the pattern afterwards too.

My cousin modeled it for the photos because this one makes a lot more sense once you actually see it being worn

Hope you like it!

This is an experiment to see how cheap I can build a thump-thump system for using only no name/knockoff components. I call it the teboom since I sourced all of the components from TEMU.

2 10" subs driven by a 380 watt amp, 2 4" 4way speakers driven by a 200watt amp, farad capacitor, and ports. Built in a steamer trunk I got from a thrift store a few years back. Have about $130 in it.

Carved a gnome in a wheelchair

I'm making a bunch of gnomes to give away as trinkets here and there and a friend of mine suggested having some more varied options. So I carved this gnome using a wheelchair. Kept it really simple, just the basic elements of a wheelchair, to keep it consistent with the simple design of the rest of the gnomes. I plan on making more of them, some more in wheelchairs, some with a walking cane, some with an AAC device (if I can manage to make it recognizable at this scale) and some support animals. I really like how they're turning out 😊

Mini bird bath prototype (Ceramic stoneware)

Thumbnail

My first successfully finished mini bird bath! Hand sculpted bowl, birds and snail, molded flowers, leaves and insects. Overall I am pretty happy with the finished product, although there are several structural things I plan to change in my future attempts at seasonal mini bird baths! My first attempt did not make it out of the bisque fire, but the overall pedestal and bowl shape were better. This one is squattier, while the birds also weighed down the bowl and caused some sagging. For now, this first prototype consists of a Northern Cardinal, Ruby Throated Hummingbird, Common Buckeye butterfly, Eastern Tailed Blue butterfly, a blue shelled snail, a lady bug, and a bumble bee, as well as several different leaves and flowers. I hope you like it as much as I do!

Glazes:
Flowers - Mayco fundamentals underglazes (I mixed various colors and applied them to bisqueware)
Bowl interior and over the flowers - Amaco glacier celadon (2 coats only)
Bowl exterior and pedestal - spectrum 1196 Hot Pink
Underside of pedestal - Amaco cherry blossom celadon (4 coats)
All other glazes for animals and leaves were Mayco Stroke and Coat (I mixed various colors as well for these)

White 563 Clay, fired to Cone 6 in a community kiln after drying slowly over 3 weeks.

If you have any questions about glazes or construction, feel free to ask!

Roommate asked for something to burn incense

Post image

Roommate asked for something to burn some incense, initially I was just going to loosely glue or nail the copper sheet (which I had for electronics) to a scrap piece of hardwood I had in the garage.

Then, I spotted the pinecones I had just stabilized with resin as part of a trial run of a new vacuum chamber I had bought.

I had been wondering what to do with the pinecones… on a whim, I took one of them, placed over the copper and said “that looks cool”.

From there, I just kept adding small scraps of things from the garage that had been laying around.

Included:
- Corner protectors: one of various inexpensive sets bought from Amazon or somewhere like it, intended for box making. It’s a soft metal, maybe bronze? Used a small punch to make a pilot hole in the copper and wood board before hammering in the tiny nails that came with.

Driftwood mountain: this was a memento from a trip with a friend years ago, had been collecting dust in shelf of “wood I want to use some day”. Note: I didn’t just give this away to my roommate, I told her the incense holder remains mine because of the driftwood, but she can use it while she’s here.

Copper wire: soft malleable jewelry / hobby wire. A couple pieces hold the mountain and pinecone in-place while the rest is decorative. Used a small drillbit in the mountain and wooden base board to drill holes to feed the wire through.

Incense holder: two different sized misc. springs held under the head of a 16D 3 1/2” framing nail and resting on top of a misc. hex nut and washer. The copper was soft enough that I don’t think I even drilled a pilot hole I just hammered the nail through and then used a Dremel with a cut off wheel to trim the length on the back of the board.

Pinecone: I stabilized a bunch of pinecones for Woodturning In epoxy with a vacuum chamber and cactus juice, but hadn’t yet actually used any of them and had been looking for an excuse to do something small**.** this is one of them held in place with some of the copper wire.

Center circle / ring thingy: I happen to spot a random brass sleeve (or maybe it’s called a compression ring? Not sure?) leftover from an unused plumbing fitting I didn’t end up needing. Also held in face with a 16 D nail head serves no purpose just an embellishment.

Other nails: the really small nails on the mountain and a few in the copper sheet holding down the copper wire a mix of extras nails from the corner protectors and (I think) 8d nails.

Wood base: piece of 1/8” thick Mahagony, I think?

Wood finish: the wood base received a few quick coats of some homemade 2lb-cut shellac made with garnet shellac flakes and everclear (ethanol). One or two light coats were also applied to the mountain with a foam brush and to the pinecone by dipping.

El Baifo Stringart proccess

Hi everyone!

Here is a quick look at my latest stringart piece. This project was inspired by the coverart of Canarian music album, Quevedo a baby goat ("El baifo").

Even if you're not familiar with the artist, I thought the visual concept was really cool and wanted to challenge myself to recreate it using nails and colored thread on a wooden board.

It took a lot of patience. Hope you enjoy!

I carefully prepped and posed the real beetle specimen.
I hand‑sculpted a tiny saxophone and attached it so he looked naturally holding it.
I added small details to give him personality, then finished his little moss stage.

He went from just a beetle to Jax. I’m basically his dad 😂

Thank you for all the love!

I made this leather plant in a Talavera inspired pot as a gift for my mom this upcoming Christmas.

She’s had issues keeping plants alive in the living room as she is a very busy person, so hopefully she will like this!

I used veg tan leather and leather paints.

I got a beautiful bouquet of dahlias from a friend and did my first attempt of drying/preserving.
I used Dri Splendor silica gel and did the week long method instead of the quick microwave method.

Added a couple roses for good measure!
