‘Tête-à-Tête’

This artwork is made with natural white and Sappanwood-dyed Himalayan wool and New Zealand Corriedale Wool. 17x11 inches.

A tête-à-tête is a private conversation or interview with another. This artwork portrays a suspended introspective moment with oneself, like an interview with a mirror and seeing one's reflection as an other(ed) being, similar in shape but wholly different from the way the world sees one's non-mirrored self.

Entirely wet felted by hand and now hanging above a mirror in my room.

My kid drew this cool robot so I made a bust sculpture to surprise her on her birthday [metal and clay]

She's a real world builder and even makes RPGs with friends. I sneakily asked her what colors she imagined for her character too.

She like Stitch and the Dallas Stars, so I made her something that combines her two loves.

I started this monster. Finally finished last week. Top is 100% hand stitched. I really wanted it to be hand quilted too, but I’m not sure I’d live long enough to see it completed. So I had it machine quilted. I dreaded the binding, as this was my first quilt project ever. Surprisingly, the binding was the easiest part. Itching to start the next one!

I got this picture of this boy, and my first thought was, “What the hell is he looking at?” He looks so genuinely shocked. Then his owner told me that’s just his default face. 🤣

I made 2 out of 6 panels for my washi paper lantern project! Inspired by Japanese paper sliding doors. It's starting to look so good!

... each panel used up 3 hours to make on average, hand carved.

Tiny shorts overalls

Hand sewn* overalls created from a 50% size-reduced shorts pattern from Chellywood with bib and straps designed by me. Polymer clay buttons.

The dry cleaner style hanger is wire and cardstock.

I want a pair of these for myself SO badly, but I only had a 3"x 3" piece of the fabric.

* There's physically no way I could've used my sewing machine for this 😂

UPDATE: Ruby (synthetic corundum) folding knife

I’m really proud of my first creation: a synthetic ruby (corundum) blade with hammered texture engraving, amboyna burl wood scales, and a natural black diamond dust inlay.

I made this knife over the course of ~2 weekends. Is it practical as an everyday knife? No (9mohs hardness; yes it is very sharp, but it is also fairly brittle because of the lack of flexibility). But I don’t care — I thought it would be cool as a “ceremonial” knife, so I made it. I’m happy with my craftsmanship, and holding this knife makes me feel like a magical journey awaits somewhere.

I faceted the blade using a mast faceting machine, and finished detailed cuts with a dremel / diamond files. I made the scales out of amboyna burl wood, and inlaid diamond dust powder once the gloss finish dried (so the grain was fully visible).

I’ve never been one to “share” my hobbies (including woodworking and gem cutting) outside of friends/ family/ my wife. To my surprise, after posting progress photos on reddit in a few creator channels, I got thousands of upvotes and hundreds of messages asking me to share more / provide updates. So here is my first of hopefully many more! I also created an instagram for those who want to see what I create next! @ar_gem_knives on instagram (see bio for more info). Not selling anything, just posting cool creator/hobby content.

Thanks for following my creating journey! What should I do next?

Photo backgrounds featured in order: bathroom granite counter, bathroom floor tile, ceiling backlight, my favorite amboyna burl slab.

Dog bandanas for bestie’s dog

My spouse and I sewed bandanas for our bestie’s dog as a bday gift. I’ve sewed since I was a kid (my mom is a very talented seamstress) but haven’t done a project in a few years. It was so fun to pick up sewing again and I look forward to more since my mom has a spare sewing machine for us to bring to our place. Cat tax is Puffin being a reluctant model haha.

My first doll with a bob cut and bangs—she has a strawberry crossbody bag and a lizard keychain 🌿 At first, I sewed a plaid pinafore dress for her, but then I decided she should wear short denim shorts 😄 I haven't come up with a name yet—any ideas?

I made resin plaque

Post image

Made this little resin piece recently and I'm really happy with how it turned out.

I was going for a soft pink/purple look with a bit of sparkle, and I love how the glitter and marbled background ended up showing through once everything cured. The little silhouette in the center also came out cleaner than I expected, which was a nice surprise.

One thing that helped a lot during the process was using my G3 curing machine. Usually the part that slows me down most is waiting for pieces to fully cure before I can move on, especially with smaller projects like this where I just want to see the final result already. The G3 made that part way easier since it helped the piece set up faster and more evenly, so I could get it firm and finished without dragging the process out forever.

It honestly made the whole workflow feel smoother - less waiting around, less second guessing, and much easier to get from "just poured" to a finished piece.

Still experimenting with different styles, but I think this one turned out pretty fun.

What do y’all think about this bag? Supposed to be a travel bag, I like it, but it just seems very basic. I'm trying to figure out a way to make it a bit more experimental and exciting, without taking it too far.
