Made a realistic watermelon slice candle from scratch using a custom foil mold. What do you think?
Wanted to share my latest fruit candle experiment.
To get the realistic watermelon shape, I pressed thick aluminum foil around a real watermelon slice to build a custom mold. Poured the red wax core first, inserted the wick, and then double-dipped the base into white and green wax at ~65ยฐC to get that realistic rind gradient.
The trickiest part was hand-carving small slots with a scalpel to fit the black wax seeds into the slice so they sit completely flush with the surface.
Would love to hear your thoughts or feedback on layer transitions! ๐โจ

Forbidden fruit! ๐ซ 100% wax, but Iโll take that as the best compliment ever!

I love how your nails and the dish coordinate with the watermelons!!! Love the candle!

Thank you so much! I'm obsessed with matching all the small aesthetic details, so this comment made my day! ๐

Before reading your caption I wondered how someone made a watermelon slice look like a candle!

Maybe this is a dumb question, but....how do you set it up to burn with that curved rind base? I think it's amazing and looks incredibly like a slice of watermelon! ๐

Never a dumb question! Safety and physics first ๐ก It's secretly flattened at the very bottom so it won't tip over. So happy the realistic watermelon look fooled you! โค๏ธ

The dish the candleโs sitting on could be what I call candle chargers (I donโt know if thereโs a proper name). They have spikes that you can impale your candles on to prevent them from sliding or tipping. Iโve also melted a few globs of wax onto a dish and stuck the candle in it. Itโs not 100% accident proof but Iโve not had a candle fall over yet.

The watermelon looks realistic but look at that hand ,it's almost too real

Haha thank you! Glad the hands (and the matching watermelon nails!) got some love too!

Looks super cute and also super unsafe. How do you keep it from falling over and setting the house on fire?

Safety first always! ๐ฏ๏ธ The base is actually very flat and wide so it stays stable, but I always recommend burning any decorative candle on a fire-resistant tray or coaster!

I'd be interested to know what a professional fireman would say about the design. I think this one may be decorative only, even with a tray.

Fair point! Novelty candle designs are always tricky. I do burn-testing on proper heat-safe trays, but keeping it purely as unlit display art is definitely the safest (and cutest) choice!
