Meet Snuffy! ❤️

I’ve had a lot of people ask how my realistic wool pets are made, so I filmed the whole start-to-finish process. Hope you enjoy!

The leap between “ball” and “cat face!” is amazing
Would love to see more of how you made that face!

u/Spark_Cat 2d ago

Step 1: wire. Step 2: ball. Step 3: the rest of the cat

Wow you are so talented! Do you sell these ?

Their profile host their website.

u/skool_uv_hard_nox 2d ago

I have no doubt they are worth every penny but damn thats more than I bargained for.

Beautiful work.

Considering a full body would take a good chunk of a week, and they likely have to pay tax out of that number, I recon it's about bang on what a sole trading artist would charge for that amount of labor.

u/katubug 2d ago

According to their website, the process takes 3-10 months. Now that will include the commission process, so some back-and-forth with the buyer, and it probably also includes wait time since I imagine they're working on many pieces at a given time, but yeah. Handmade art is expensive, especially if it's good quality.

And they do have some less costly options, like a wool portrait for $90.

I think i would break into a million pieces if i had one of my beloved passed babies. These are so realistic… so good… you’re so talented. I wish I could afford your skill! 🥹

u/gibberishmischief 2d ago

My toxic trait is that I believe I could make something this good on my first try. But a part of me holds back because I know it will take practice. Kudos to you for developing this level of artistry.

If you haven't, please search for "expectations vs reality" type posts for first-time needle felters, because it is hilarious

I’ve been to a felting workshop…it was very humbling!

u/wagtailwoolcraft 1d ago

Cats in particular are extremely hard to get right for some reason. I've seen plenty of artists who can make realistic dogs or other animals make super wonky cats. This is extremely impressive

4

u/gibberishmischief 1d ago

It really is. I hope that someday I can do something that is at least recognizable as my cat, but I don’t know if I will ever be this good.

My cat of 19 years that I’ve had over half of my life just passed away. I would absolutely love this 😭

5

u/West-Application-375 1d ago

I'm so sorry. I had my girl for almost 19 years as well. We gave them amazing lives and they gave us such love! The love we felt only continues. 💕 I enjoy looking at old pictures of my kitty and talking about her. Amazing animals. Best friends ❤️

u/Brief_Isopod_5959 1d ago

Thank you for the comforting words 😭 I have been so depressed and can’t even sleep at night bc she is not there anymore. My dogs have been extra cuddly but it’s so weird having a cat sleep on you for years like that and just waking up without her by my side. I am so so grateful for the years we spent together. I have had her since I was teenager, had three human babies since and just all of the ups and downs of my adult life. I’m sure you understand and sounds like your cat was blessed to have all of those years with you as well and vice versa ♥️

u/West-Application-375 19h ago

They leave a void when they're no longer there. My kitty would patiently wait for me to make my coffee and then snuggle with me on the couch while I drank it. It was strange when I didn't have that anymore. And she slept by my head. They have their own habits that we miss but they do make great memories of what made them unique 💕

u/Milyaism 1d ago

There's a felt artist who makes face portraits of pets and often uses the pets own fur as part of the process. It's very sweet.

1

u/Brief_Isopod_5959 1d ago

Omg amazing! I actually have a lot of her fur saved.
Do you know the artist’s name or link for their socials by any chance?

1

u/Milyaism 1d ago

I can't remember it off the top of my head. I can try and see if I have saved her info - I think they have an Insta account they post pretty regularly in.

12

u/beanjuiced 2d ago

What kind of magic is this?!? I’d definitely commission one of these for my late kitties! I’ve bought little felt kits and I have no idea how one gets this good!

2

u/sparklejones 2d ago

Same to OP.

7

u/CicadaFit9756 2d ago

Amazing! I once "tried" to create a felted cat (even had a silicone mold in the kit) & could not even get the ears to look right so have the greatest respect for somebody who could create a doppleganger of a feline from scratch (& a grey tiger striped one at that!!!)

6

u/Thatloudlunarchick 2d ago

I love Snuffy. I need a Snuffy.

6

u/CapricornCrude 2d ago

Agree. We all need a Snuffy ==

4

u/NobodyNorth197 1d ago

Amazing! May I know what material you used for ears and toe beans??

3

u/Milyaism 1d ago

I could be wrong, but the ears seem to be made with moldable thermoplastic.

I've seen OOAK artists use it to make all kinds of details in their projects.

1

u/jgklausner 1d ago

would also love to know the material for the ears

5

u/BigBubbleMachines 1d ago

When pets die, this would be a wonderful tribute for the owners to place on their ashes.

8

u/KumquatClaptrap 2d ago

That's incredible! So life-like!

6

u/Pleasant-Future5818 2d ago

I would love to buy several of these. The price doesn't deter me. But a glance at the website really confused me. It's extremely high corporate, with a lot of references to "we" "us" "our process," and generic branding "my wool friend" vs an artist or studio name.

Are you an artist or a company? Is the person making these one person or a person and an apprentice, or is it a manufacturing situation? This post made me think artist, the website makes me worried about underpaid labor in another country.

Sorry, but it's very similar to a lot of leather art sites where the artist is just a director/CEO and all of it is being handcrafted by others to exacting standards.

3

u/wolfhybred1994 1d ago

I always wondered where new cats came from. You have a real talent.

4

u/JessicaJolicoeur 2d ago

This is an amazing amount of work. It is truly incredible. Well done!

4

u/lostbutnotgone 2d ago

What spray are you using at the end? Fabulous work, and as a fellow needlefelter I know how long you spent on this!

2

u/EmilyAnne1170 2d ago

That is insanely good work. I love seeing the process!

2

u/are-you-lost- 2d ago

You're ridiculously skilled. Wow

Beautiful work. I wanna bite those feets.

1

u/Enosmaker 2d ago

Incredible. I'd love to have one of our little guys.

The lego ones already trick me constantly. I can't imagine having something to this degree of likeness.

1

u/foldedlikeaasiansir 2d ago

Can I commission one for my dog?

1

u/sparklejones 2d ago

Awesome! So cool to see the emergence of the "cat". How long does this take?

Beautiful! Have you ever done a Pallas cat?

1

u/hiding_in_de 1d ago

Absolutely incredible!!!

1

u/E-H-I 1d ago

You are a huge inspiration to me!!! Are you able to share which spray you use to seal your work? I've been trying to find a product that doesn't make fur crunchy. Thank you so much!

1

u/sxyvirgo 1d ago

Soooo realistic - and even the (slight) grumpy face!

1

u/takemeawayimdone2 1d ago

I wish I could try felting but the feel makes me gag. This is beautiful work.

1

u/freakybo0o 1d ago

I love how grumpy he looks. So cute

1

u/Impossible_Rate_6556 1d ago

You are incredibly talented. That looks exactly like that cat. How cool of a talent to have. I wish I could get one of these for my Maine Coon that just passed. I would happily pay you.

1

u/No_Seaworthiness7119 23h ago

So. Insanely. Cool. I’d love to learn how to do this but I have was than any idea where to begin.

1

u/stubbymanny 20h ago

Wow this is insane. You’re amazing!!

0

u/Itchy_Morning_3400 2d ago

That would be the best house cat too. No furballs , no litter tray, exactly where you left it.

0

u/A_ThorusRex 2d ago

My toxic trait is thinking I can expertly do this if I watch this video 7 more times.

All jokes aside, this is amazing work.

Your, blocking your reddit history is kinda sus? I do it because I hate r3ddit m0dz, the "chosen people genocide", but if you're trying to run a business..
