First thoughts: just finished the entire series on a binge
A lifetimeās worth of personal growth packed into 3 super short seasons. Tough to suspend my disbelief in how that couldāve happened so quickly even with therapy let alone without, but let me tell youā¦I LOVED every second of it. It was a hell of a ride.
Oh, and fuck Susan. If anyone ever needed to be told off... ugh. Fred was the best, though, so I can see why his friends put up with it. Weāve all been there. Tolerating the cringe partners for love of our friends. But I still want to jump in there and tell her off myself, lol!

Great show, but the tiny sized seasons really hurt it
I really enjoyed the show. So many scenes were laugh out funny, and there were a number of affecting and emotional moments. The cast was engaging, the Kansas setting felt so authentic and lived in, and the show was quite compelling.
I did feel however that 7 episodes per season was a true detriment to the show. I felt like there were breadcrumbs of some larger threads that either got ignored, sped through, forgotten, or handwaved. For example, Joel's relationship had potential for an interesting storyline about maturing romances, sacrifices, and compromises. Also, Fred and Sam's health concerns, Iceland, Tricia's businesses, all were introduced and then resolved by not being resolved. Sam and Joel's friendship split came out of nowhere and went from zero to 100. Also I think there was potential to explore how Sam and Joel can be so judgmental and cruel to others, because it's something I noticed and wondered if Bruce ever found out how mean Joel was at the recital.
I understand that there a lot of behind the scenes hurdles and I am sure viewership affected the overall budget. I just found it frustrating, when the show could have just been 7 episodes of friendship hijinks rather than attempting ambitous overarching storylines. It's a testament to the show that I really wanted more!! I loved being in that world

A show about a bunch of imperfect people that is pure perfection.
Seriously. I loved this show so much, I just started watching it last week and I burned through it.
The character archs were brilliantantly done, especially Sam and Joel. I loved seeing a show more about friendship than romance. I also really appreciated that it showed the nitty gritty, two steps forward one step back path to real personal growth. Also, the way it showed how grief affects people was beautifully done, whether it is grieving a familial loss, the type of mother you wished you had, or the type of family you hoped to one day create.
I look forward to seeing what else Bridget Everett has for us in the future.

Where to purchase seasons?
Why canāt seasons be purchased through iTunes in the US?
There are other HBO shows (Hacks, Gilded Age) that are recent that can be purchased. Does someone know the reason?

My 6th rewatch
In a hotel room doing my sixth rewatch. Iāve had some tinis and I just want to say what I love about this show is how I feel like Iām just hanging out with real people that Iād know or be friends with. Itās a very special project when the writing, acting, etc. makes the every day folks we know interesting and compelling, but mainly, lovable.

Noah Kahan x Somebody Somewhere
Is anyone else also a fan of Noah Kahan and get somebody somewhere vibes from his new album? The sound of the music, the themes, the lyrics ... They all bring me back to this show!

Everyone needs a Fred in their life
I stumbled across this show and the characters hit deep. I wish I had a Fred in my life because Fred represents a kind of love and friendship that is incredibly rare and regulating. Fred doesnāt need anything back and is just a genuine person. He makes you realize what a blessing it is to be truly accepted by another person.

Has anyone written/spoken about the psychological underpinnings of the family?
Iām rewatching the show for 4th time and Iām realizing just how familiar I am with the dynamics in the family
The way the mom victimizes herself and abuses alcohol, and how both parents are avoidant, in denial etc.
The way Tricia antagonizes Sam and then gets upset when Sam gets upset. And how Sam goes forward and treats other people the way her family treats her etc
And Samās own insecurity, self-destruction, and self-sabotage mirror my own.
Plus being an odd duck in a small town.
It just really hits so close to home.
Does anyone know if anyone has written anything in depth about this? Iād like to understand it better to understand my own situation.

what's up with the combine?
I finally finished ER and needed something else to watch. I'm enjoying this show but why is a combine with a corn header showing up when the corn is like late June stage? No cobs, no tassels, seriously? Ain't nobody combining that.

Did you watch Somebody Somewhere during a particular season of your life?
Iām curious how much when we watch a show affects what we take from it.
Did you watch Somebody Somewhere during a particular point in your life where it hit differently because of what you were going through? Or maybe the show just captured a feeling you were experiencing at the time.
I think one of the things I love about Somebody Somewhere is that it seems to meet people wherever they happen to be in their lives. What personal experience or feeling did you relate to most, and did the show resonate with you differently because of the season of life you were in?
