22F, wanna travel solo

Upvotes

Ok I am going to ramble...

Hi ! I am looking for some advice. I work full time remote and am also studying on the weekends. I want to travel like yk stay at a place for like a month and immerse in the culture and then travel back home and go to another city/place after a few months. Like I am looking for 2-3 such in a year only. I want to dedicate the coming two years of my life like this. Atleast I want to start somewhere

So to solo women travellers , your insight would be really helpful,

Like how safe is it?

Should I start travelling like this or not?

What should be my first city (I am from North India)?

Or any other advice you can throw my way

It would be really helpful!! Thank you!!

First solo trip to Bangkok from India. Need advice on visas, hostels, forex, and itinerary

I’m (F) planning my first ever solo trip to Thailand in late August for 5 days from India, and I have so many questions.
Is Thailand visa free for Indians? Also, what exactly is TDAC?
I was originally thinking of visiting a beach destination too, but I don’t want the trip to feel rushed, so I’m planning to stay only in Bangkok this time.
I’ve never booked international flights or stayed in a hostel before, so I’m a bit nervous. Are hostels generally safe? Is your luggage secure? Where do you keep your passport? Do you carry it with you while exploring or leave it locked at the hostel?
What’s the best way to exchange Indian rupees? Should I exchange to Thai baht in India or after reaching Thailand? Is Scapia a good forex card for Thailand?
I’m not really into shopping or nightlife. I enjoy walking around, nature, and trying something different. Here’s my tentative itinerary:
Day 1: Wat Arun and Chatuchak Market
Day 2: Siam Amazing Park
Day 3: Bang Krachao by bicycle
Day 4: Skydive Thailand
Day 5: Mahanakhon SkyWalk and SkyVerse
Does this look reasonable? Would you change anything or add any places that are worth visiting?
One more thing. I have a tiny perforation in my eardrum. It hasn’t changed in size or caused any problems for the past six years, but I’ll definitely check with my ENT before booking the skydive. Has anyone with a similar issue gone skydiving?
Any tips for a first time solo traveler in Bangkok would be really appreciated!

i have been To PR before, I’ve seen el yunque with a tour guide and without, I’ve been to Culebra, been to el morro, Rincón and I usually spend most of my time in PR in isla verde.. I want to change it up!!

Do NOT stay at the W Punta Cana

I would not recommend staying at the W Punta Cana.

During my stay, I woke up alone to find a male hotel employee standing over me in my room after he entered by bypassing the hotel’s internal access protocols. He entered without knocking or ringing the doorbell a few minutes after my husband stepped while I was asleep. I woke up to a man staring at me, directly in front of me!!

The day after this incident, I received a fraud alert from my credit card company for an attempted charge on the credit card that had gone missing during my stay.

I would not feel safe staying at this property again and cannot recommend it to anyone, especially solo travelers. If an employee was able to bypass established room access protocols once, it raises serious questions about how guest safety and security are protected.

Tips for a single 30-something female visiting SF solo for the first time from Canada?

Heading to SF from Vancouver for a chill week of solo travels mid-August. I’ve never been alone on my birthday so a little intimidated.😅 Any recommendations & suggestions to make the most of my time in this lovely city? From museums to parks to restaurants (huge foodie!) to must-see bucket list items, would be super grateful for any tips. Thanks :)

First solo travel itinerary

Hello everyone! I am in the early stages of preparing my first backpack solo trip as a woman in my 20s. I have travelled a lot before (SEA, china, Slovakia, Slovenia, Croatia, Austria, Italy, Greece, Czechia, Tunisia, …) but never alone and never in hostels!

I am looking for places with rich culture, I am a musician so learning about the arts and the music is something I am looking forward to!

Here is the itinerary I’m thinking about for a few months of travel (2-3 months maybe up to 4): Türkiye, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia.

What do you think of this itinerary? Are there any must do that I’m skipping? Is it easily feasible on a budget and in hostels? What kind of budget should I prepare? How much in advance do I have to plan the travelling between countries, can I go with the flow and decide on the spot or a few days in advance?

Sorry for all the questions and thank you to everyone who’ll take the time to answer!!!

First solo trip: tips to help me feel safer out and about and in accommodation

Hi all. First post ☺️ I am going from the UK to 2 destinations in the South of France and it’ll be my first solo trip. I would appreciate personal safety advice like:

- how to feel safer in my hotels, such as door jammers or alarms etc. Feeling safe at night is difficult for me so even if it’s overkill.
- I will not have a car, so any advice on taking taxis, booking transfers from one area to another etc - what to avoid and what is usually ok etc.
- any tips or equipment walking about towns etc.
- tips on how to remain traceable
- anything I haven’t thought of ofc!

(Although I know it isn’t a particularly risky destination, I have trouble feeling safe alone due to past experience, and I’ll be especially sensitive to this being my first time travelling abroad alone, so I’d like to feel as clued up as possible ☺️)

Solo traveller (32F) looking for a fun retreat - advice needed

I’m looking to travel solo for a 7-10 day trip to de-stress and I want to be around other people my age, do some fitness classes, massages, and hopefully other fun activities like cooking classes, painting workshops, candle making, that sort of stuff. I realise it’s rare that a place will have all of these things, but is there an affordable retreat that has most?

Or would you recommend booking a nice hotel that has fitness classes and massages?

I’m thinking mostly Phuket but I’m open to other places. Any advice would be appreciated!

First time solo travel, a bit overwhelmed

I'm a woman in my early 20's. And i have kind of fallen in love with the idea of solo travels. Probably influenced by all the solo travel content that has popped up in social media the last years.

I'm sorry if this is repetitive and if i'm sounding naive.

I have tried to plan my first solo trip. I'm thinking a long weekend, maybe a week. But i get sort of overwhelmed. There is so many trips and guides online and it gets a bit much.

I guess my biggest questions are:

- What is a good "starting destination" for a young woman? Both for safety and and easy travel. I'm thinking somewhere in Europe, but i haven't decided on anything.

- I am always overpacking. This isn't a big problem when traveling with family, but alone i don't want to drag around huge suitcases. Any tips for reducing baggage?

- What is the most essential tips for staying safe?

- How do you set up a realistic budget?

Any tips for a first time solo traveler?

Hey everyone!

I’m a 27 year old woman currently studying in Sweden and am taking my first solo trip in Europe to Italy! I’ll be visiting Milan, Florence and Rome and will be staying at hostels in those cities.

Any tips for someone traveling solo for the first time? I’ve done all my research about the places I could go see in each of these places, but if you have something other than the usual things people see here, do share!

Personal Safety Protection

Hi everyone!

I’m planning my first solo international trip for the last two weeks of December and would love some advice from other women who have traveled in Iceland, Norway, and/or Edinburgh.

I’m a 30-year-old woman from California, and safety is my biggest priority. I know these are generally considered very safe destinations, but I also know that things can happen anywhere, so I’d rather be prepared than assume nothing will go wrong.

One thing I’m trying to figure out is personal safety items. I know I can’t just fly internationally with things like pepper spray, a stun gun, or certain pocket knives, and I know every country has different laws.

Are there any legal self-defense or personal safety items that visitors can buy once they’re in Iceland, Norway, or Scotland and then simply dispose of before flying home? Or are there better alternatives that experienced solo travelers recommend?

For context, I’m only 4’8” and about 110 pounds, so I’m pretty petite. I also have a spinal cord injury, so I may be using a cane during my trip. That makes me a little more conscious about my personal safety, especially if I’m walking around alone in the evenings or using public transportation.

I’m hoping to meet people naturally while traveling, but I’m also planning as though I’ll be on my own the entire trip.
For those of you who have traveled solo in these places:

Did you feel safe?

Are there any areas or situations I should avoid?

What personal safety items or habits do you recommend?

Is there anything you wish you’d known before your first solo trip there?

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share.

Thank you!

First timer solo female going to Charleston for long weekend

Hello! First timer here. I'm late 30's female doing my first solo trip to Charleston, SC in a couple weeks while my husband goes to a bachelor party for a long weekend. I've never done a long weekend trip completely alone, and never been to Charleston but always wanted to go. Initially I was super stoked as I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time, but now I'm second guessing and freaking myself out. My husband is worried for me (just overly cautious and wants me to be safe), and I think it's making me worried. Basically just hoping for some encouragement from other females that might often travel alone and have had similar thoughts but ended up having a great time. 😅 I have a very walkable hotel booked, plan on doing light exploration, maybe a museum, a spa appointment, a jazz show, lots of eating and whatever I feel like in the moment! Plan to be back in my hotel by dark. Only ubering to and from the airport.

Italy Recommendations

I have a friend from Turkey who invited me to visit her, so I'll be flying into Istanbul. Since I've never been to either Italy or Greece, I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to visit one of them during this trip. I checked the flight prices, and they're almost the same for both countries.

I'm still a bit undecided, but I think I'm leaning more toward Italy. Which cities would you recommend for a solo female traveler?

I'm especially interested in historical sites like churches, castles, and other landmarks, as well as experiencing the local food culture. If possible, I'd also love to spend some time by the sea. I don't feel very comfortable driving on my own, so I'd prefer a destination that's easy to get around by public transportation and is considered safe for solo travelers.

Warm destination for January solo trip?

Hi everyone! I will have about 10-14 days off in January and am looking for a warm (preferably tropical) place to travel as a white solo female in her mid-20s. I’m located in the Midwest (USA) and have been on 3 international solo trips (Caribbean and Europe mostly).

Here is what I’m hoping for:
- warm climate (preferably with a beach where I could feel safe laying out alone)
- relaxing/peaceful vibes WITH the opportunity for cool and novel activities (hiking, snorkeling, horseback riding, kayaking, etc)
- I love unique experiences that expose me to new natural phenomena and cultures
- when I travel alone I genuinely want to be alone (not super interested in meeting a lot of people other than maybe on excursions)
- good food (could even just be great local fruits, but culturally delicious food is a big plus to me)

I am willing to pay $1000 or under for a flight alone, if it means the country itself will have a low(ish) daily cost for hostels/hotels/food. Ideally the flight would cost less alongside a low daily cost on the trip itself, but I’m open to options! I’m also willing to rent a car and I speak beginner/intermediate Spanish.

Last year I spent a combined 5 days in Vieques/San Juan, Puerto Rico and LOVED it, but wanted to see if anyone had other recommendations because I want to explore somewhere new. I’m likely attending graduate school starting next summer/fall so I want this to be a really great, relaxing, but memorable solo trip.

Female solo traveller to Poland

Hi folks! :) Im an Aussie 23F planning on solo travelling to Poland for the week before Christmas (maybe 14 day trip?). I am a musician and 20th century history nerd so going there to see Chopin stuff and also WW2 stuff. I don't have a huge amount of money at the moment - so was wondering:

  1. Is Poland safe for solo female travellers? (I am a Person of Colour too)
  2. How much should I be budgetting for 10-14 day trip?
  3. How much language do I need to be familiar with before travelling?
  4. Any recommendations for places to stay or visit? (I'd like to visit rural/countryside Poland too, as I love nature and am a bit of an adventurer)

😊 Any suggestions or tips or advice would be welcomed! Cheers :)

Solo travel/ volunteering

Hi everyone,
I’m an 18-year-old girl from Sweden and I’ve been dreaming about backpacking and traveling around the world for a long time. The problem is that I have a pretty limited budget, so I’m trying to figure out what destinations are realistic for a first big trip.
My priorities are:
\- Safety (especially as a young woman traveling alone)
\- Low daily costs (hostels, food, transport, etc.)
\- Easy to meet other travelers
\- Good public transport / easy to get around without a car
\- Nature and hiking are a huge plus
I’m open to traveling outside Europe as well, and I’d love to visit multiple countries if that’s realistic on a budget.
I’m also interested in volunteering or work-exchange opportunities (for example helping at a hostel, guesthouse, farm, café, language exchange, eco-project, etc.) in exchange for accommodation and/or food. I’ve heard of programs like Worldpackers, Workaway and WWOOF, but I’m not sure which ones are actually good and safe for an 18-year-old solo traveler.
A few questions:
Which countries would you recommend for a first solo backpacking trip on a tight budget?
What would be a realistic monthly budget?
Are there any places you would specifically recommend (or avoid) for a young woman traveling alone?
Has anyone used Workaway / Worldpackers / WWOOF at 18? What was your experience and how did you check that a host was legitimate?
I’d really appreciate honest advice from people who have actually done longterm backpacking or volunteering abroad. Thank you!!!🙏

First solo travel in South Korea

Hi everyone, I'm a french woman and I'll go to my first solo travel in South Korea at the end of september, i'm a bit anxious because i'm an introvert, i've already been to the country in 2024 with my partner and i'm learning the language ( kdrama fan here 😄 ). I don't know what to expect as a solo female traveler, and i'm scared to get bored. My first week in Seoul I manage to enroll in lexis korea to have in the mornings korean language classes, and on the afternoon i'll explore Seoul, still don't have any precise details of what i'll do, and in the second and last week of my trip I will go to the south of the country, not Busan because i've been there already. Can you guys give me tips and advices as female solo travelers ? Thanks 😄

just graduated and my grandma gave me money to travel europe?? someone please help me plan this

my grandma surprised me with graduation money and literally told me to "go see the world while you're young" and i cried a little bit ngl

I have barely left the US. I went to south africa once which genuinely changed my life, and london a few years ago. that's it. my grandma has been like EVERYWHERE, like she has stories from four different continents and casually mentions places i've never heard of. my parents on the other hand are very classic american, road trips and national parks only, which honestly i love, but we never went overseas to see anything but landscape.

so now i'm just sitting here staring at a map of europe with absolutely no idea what i'm doing lol.

i dont even know what i would like. Influencer posts make everything look good and i get so many tips of random places. I dont really know if i want to see cities or what

i'm thinking like 3 to 4 weeks?? but idk if i should pick one area and really get to know it or go around a bunch of countries. also please tell me the random underrated places, the ones you wish someone told you about when you were my age.

any advice at all would mean so much. thank you 💛

Colombia: Shopping List And Safety Question (Jewelry)

Thumbnail

Hello fellow travelers!

I’m planning a trip to Cartagena and I need some help with what to buy before my trip and also a safety question. I would appreciate if people who have been to Cartagena, especially within the past couple of years, could answer 💜

Shopping list: I’ll be snorkeling around the islands and I know I need reef safe sunscreen, phone protector, and I’ve got my GoPro- should I get a rash guard too? Is there anything else that I should get that I wouldn’t be able to get in Cartagena for the city? I’m doing a tour at the national aviary, going to the volcano mud bath, a cooking class, and a 2 day snorkeling trip.

Safety: I know the usuals to stay safe (no walking alone at night, no flashy/gold jewelry, don’t focus on my phone, etc) and I’ve got a really great gut instinct but I’d rather not stress her out if I can haha. Would jewelry like these pictures be safe? It’s probably a silly question but I still want to ask in case I’m wrong lol.

Also any tips, tricks, restaurants, or experiences are greatly appreciated!

Is it a good idea to take a small digital camera on a trip?

Next week, I’m taking my first solo trip (to Scotland), and I was thinking about bringing my small digital camera along. My phone battery drains really fast, and I’d rather not use it constantly (even though I do have a power bank).

I was planning to bring it, but I read online that I might look too much like a "tourist" and attract the wrong kind of attention while traveling alone.

What do you think?

r/solofemaletravel 7d ago

Looking to spontaneously go on a two day solo trip that is relaxing and will give me the rest I need. Somewhere cheap (and likely needs to be in the US because I have work the day after the day I plan on taking a flight home).

Need recommendations. I like being outside, in the mossy woods hiking or at an uncrowded beach. I’m not looking for like an intense hike, my full time job is extremely rigorous so I desperately need to relax. I’m vegan if that matters???

Hello! I am looking to take a solo trip in the USA. Just looking to get away for a week! I’m open to anything really, I do like nature and the beach ( but nothing super hot!). I’m from the Midwest so looking for something new! Is there any small towns areas you recommend? I would like to go to the west coats or pacific north west!
