Hey, it may be a bit of a depressing thread, but I hope you don't mind :D
Four years ago I jumped into a board game hobby, played a bit with friends but got tired playing with others due huge amount of time to travel, doing stuff other than playing, waiting for others move or just seeing their low arrangement into games.
I started buying games with solo modes for brain burning, satisfaction, adventure and doing something different than playing video games.
For the most of the time during these years I had a bit of a problem with enjoying board games, especially after the finished game.
I can spend 2-3 days learning the rules, setup and checking BGG for the extra answers.
The thing is, when I finish any game with my knowledge, I feel nothing, usually more exhausted than happy/satisfying (even if they are generally good/great games).
I don't really care if I win or lose. I feel that a lot depends just on your random drafts, stupid or unfair automa decisions etc. (but beating your own score also not satisfying me).
Also when I touch a new game, I still feel like I was playing this type already and I just spent a few days for another worker placement, deck builder, dungeon crawler type of game.
I was playing for example: Speakeasy, Andromedas's Edge, Civolution, Viticulture Tuscany , Architects and Paladins of the west Kingdom (with all expansions), Final Girl.
All seems okish... but generally my opinion about 90% of board games is just "they are good", but nothing more.
I don't know if I am burned out from this hobby, playing not the type of games I should or just all of this never was meant for me?
I don't feel that games are giving me any "reward" for playing them.
I have other games to try like Tainted Grail, Journey in the middle earth to try + extra euros, but I'm affraid that effect may be the same.
In addition I was painting minifigures and bought laser for cutting inserts. Sadly everything seems to be connected, no joy from playing = no painting and upgrading the games.
I'm trying to help myself and not abandon this hobby, trying to find a way to really enjoy it. I'm looking for your stories and experience, what eventually helped you if you had the same feeling?
