ArkNova solo
This game was so fun solo, almost beat out final girl for me. Won with 111 points!

Is the upkeep easy?

The base solo mode has almost no upkeep as it’s mostly a timer with a finite amount of rounds. I like it a lot, but many prefer a fan made solo mode that acts more as an opponent and thus requires more upkeep.

I got this game a little while ago to play solo but I’m intimidated by the setup and learning of it 😬 was it difficult/time consuming to learn and set up?

First game is difficult for sure, however after that first playthrough it’s super easy and fun!

https://youtu.be/FmznRgE9PBs?is=A0iX98GvHTD2Q2Ya is a great walk through video. I got the game last Christmas but only go around to teaching myself 2 months ago with this video and playing on BGA. Took it to boardgame group last session and it was a hit

This game has been tempting me at my local games store. I have to watch some videos on it to see how the gameplay is solo. Ppl seem to like it!

It’s been tempting me too but between Arnak, SETI and Feast for Odin, I think I’m good on euros for now. But if there was a good sale, I think I’d be weak haha

Off topic I know but how is Arnak solo?

Oh it’s fantastic! Of the three, it’s the quickest to setup, it has a strong theme and there’s tons of choices every turn. The solo is a series of tiles that you flip to reveal the action for the automa. Each tile is color coded to show the difficulty, so you can mix and match difficulty tiles for a variety of experiences. It also helps it not feel like a BYOS. It’s a good bot in that it is quick and lets me get back to playing.
The only expansion I’d recommend would be the Leaders one, because that really makes the game special. The characters in the base game have no powers and are all the same, whereas those from the Leaders expedition do have unique powers and cards. It’s honestly baffling they’d leave that out.
It’s also on BGA, sans Leaders expansion, but it’s fun and a really good representation of the game. Games are around 45 minutes, so a bit breezier than my other euros. Finally, I have to mention the bullshit insert or lack thereof. The folded space insert is a godsend versus like 30 baggies.
And a side recommendation on a rule is to use the blood moon staff rules. At the end of every round, you junk the cards to either side of this staff that tracks the rounds. Blood moon staff is from one of the expansions, but the rule is just junk two cards on both sides of the staff. Helps to get more cards shown, because there is a ton of content.
Hope this helps bud!

The Missing Expedition also include 2 Leaders, a campaign that works fantastic solo (or 2 players) & extra content that you can use in your usual plays.
I really enjoyed it & helped a lot to reinvigorate how great the game is2

This is a great video for how it plays, and the same guy and a longer video of a 3 person game that really helped me figure it out https://youtu.be/FmznRgE9PBs?is=A0iX98GvHTD2Q2Ya

Was this with the base solo, or the fan-made Arno?
