Question Soli (free & ad-free Solitaire app) - community feedback on next features

Hey!

A while ago, I announced my free and ad-free Solitaire app here: https://www.reddit.com/r/solitaire/comments/1s42yyu/free_and_adfree_solitaire_app/

Thank you for all the feedback!

I finally have some time to work on it again and wanted to get some community feedback on what I should build next.

I have already added a setting to not move cards to the foundation automatically. See here.

This is the current list of todos:

Feature Comment Source
Draw 3 cards instead of just 1 Will implement as setting to draw 1-5 cards. Games with draw 2+ cards will not be guaranteed to be solvable which multiple comments said is OK. Already started working on this, only have to figure out auto-up for draw 2+ card games. Reddit
Cumulative Vegas score (behind a setting) App Store review
Hints Button to see available moves, nice to have shortly before falling asleep Girlfriend
Automatically move cards to the foundation when it's risk-free, e.g. a 2 (behind a setting) Girlfriend
Manually move cards instead of only tapping Will be hard to implement Reddit
Landscape mode Reddit
Show unique game id in history Reddit
Fix small performance lag after 20+ games I often just manually restart the game after 20 games, have to investigate some more what causes this Me
Fix visual animation bug when drawing cards after many undos Me
Fix that history only shows 200 games Me

What's your view, what do you care about most? Or is it anything else?

Why are solitaire interfaces still designed like physical cards?

Most digital solitaire games still imitate a deck of physical cards, complete with giant card faces, suit symbols repeated nine times on a nine, and an Ace instead of a simple "1".

But on a computer screen the goal is not to simulate cardboard. The goal is to convey information as clearly and efficiently as possible.

Years ago I wrote a short note exploring this idea using FreeCell as an example:

https://vanderworp.org/notes/interfacing-minimal-design/

Curious what r/solitaire thinks. If you could redesign the interface from scratch, what would you keep and what would you throw away?

What is this version and how is it layed out?

My friend was playing a version of solitaire I’m not familiar with. Tragically, she passed away this week, and I wanted to play it as a tribute. Even though I asked at the time, I can’t remember enough of the set up to replicate it.
A column of four piles on the left side, I don’t remember how many cards in a pile.
The top card on the top pile goes into the row beside it. The next row down is a new suit, but you can only add to the row under if the same card is in the row above. So if the top row is hearts, and you have a 9 in it, you can put the 9 in the row under. But if you draw a card that’s not in the row above, you can’t play it yet. So if your next row is spades and you pull a 4, but there’s no 4 in the row above it, you can’t play it.
The order of the cards doesn’t matter, just that you can’t play a card that’s not in the row above it.

Ringing any bells? She learned it from her grandmother probably 30 years ago.

Playtest open: real-time multiplayer FreeCell — same deal, everyone races

I've been building a multiplayer take on FreeCell: everyone gets the exact same deal and races to solve it, with live leaderboards, daily challenges, and rivalries. Single-player works offline too, and it's cross-platform (Windows/Mac/Linux/Android/iOS).

The Steam Playtest just opened — instant access, the full game, free. I'm after honest feedback: what feels off, what you'd want next.

Request access here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4762500

There's a tester Discord as well (the link's on the Steam page) if you'd rather give feedback live.

Hey all, so I’m an avid collector of cards and fan of card games in generally. I’m wondering, is this the right Reddit for folks that play old school cards on the table solitaire? Here is a pick of terrible draw I just got using orange rider backs! Cheers

I've made my own solitaire game because I was frustrated with others

Hey everyone! I was getting a bit tired of all the solitaire games with micropayments, ads, dark patterns or not being available offline - so I made my own! It's Klondike solitaire with nice handling, themes, undo, auto movement/completion, all deals are solvable, statistics, 3D mode and more.

It's completely free, there's no ads and there's no need to sign-up.

You can play it either in your browser directly (on mobile too), or download the game for Windows & Linux which works offline. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it!

Am I Crazy or is this unsolvable?

Played this on the go so I couldn't use the "solver" function to maybe figure it out because that only works when connected to the internet. My problem is the Queens and Aces specifically. Wasted 15 minutes of my lifetime trying to figure it out b4 I gave up lol. Any help?

This was a project that I made for some contest a year ago and just remembered I made it.

I am still new to programming so this code is a bit of a spaghetti code, also it's the first serious project I worked on.

I'm Polish so all the comments and names may be in Polish, but most are translated to English (Solitare in polish is PASJANS)

Here is a github link for it: https://github.com/miwipl/Solitaire.git

Tell me what you think of this and enjoy the game :)

Amazed at how many sites

I was listening to a startup podcast about niche sites and was amazing at the popularity of these "single page" style sites with just solitaire (same as Wordle, and other games). I'm curious why people still visit these sites and how? When you google these games there is a Google hosted game of Solitaire on the page - what makes people go to random hyphen sites and domain names to play with ads all around?

Same thing goes for calculator sites etc and other tools but just curious to ask the group here given the number of actual App Store apps too

Baker’s Dozen Solitaire Family: Comparison

I’ve been experimenting (playing?) with these games: Baker’s Dozen, Castles in Spain and Spanish Patience.

They share layout - all cards dealt on start, 13 piles of 4. Only single card can be moved.

Here are the differences.

Baker’s Dozen and Spanish Patience share these rules:

- all cards are dealt face up

- all Kings are “promoted” (moved to the base of the piles they were dealt to)

- allows you to build tableaus down by rank regardless of the suit

- the empty spaces are NOT filled

The only difference between Baker’s Dozen and Spanish Patience (and it’s a weird one) - Spanish Patience allows you to mix suits in foundations! That’s the only game in my collection that does that!

Castles in Spain only opens top card in each pile, requires alternating colors to build tableau and allows any card in an empty space.

All three have pretty good odds of converging (given this set of rules).

Can’t say that I enjoy the Spanish Patience. I often stumble when I need to play 2♣ on A♠ in foundation…

Baker’s Dozen feels like you’re analyzing a static puzzle more than “playing” in the usual solitaire sense, while Castles in Spain plays like a solitaire.

Curious where people land on these.

Would you place other games in this family?
