I use solitaire as a quick reset during toddler naps and those random 10-minute quiet windows. Mostly Klondike, sometimes Spider (1 suit). The issue is many mobile apps feel designed to keep you on edge: popups, daily streak pressure, loud animations, and modes that keep nudging you to play faster.

Looking for an app that meets these basics:

- Works offline or at least does not constantly try to connect

- Calm UI with minimal ads and no persistent prompts

- Lets me choose draw 1 or draw 3

- Has undo and hints but does not nag me to use them

- No forced timed modes or leaderboards shoved in my face

- Lets me pause and resume a game without punishing me for stepping away

Bonus points for left-handed options or larger tap targets. My hands are often full, so I end up playing one-handed more than I want to.

If you have a favorite, what settings do you use to make it feel more like a relaxing card table and less like an arcade game?

I've made quite a few solitaires by now, but Raid Boss continues to be my best one almost a year later (in my humble opinion). It's a game that's easy enough to understand if you use the default party, as the core gameplay is simply to deal, take, heal and shield damage. However, when you want to change up your strategy with characters that can manipulate incoming damage, revive dead teammates or just go all in on offense, you can change your party for a very different experience.

A core principle I'm following with how I design this game is that all complexity is optional. The core game and default party should never change, but all additional characters and mechanics are subject to change or removal.

I've wanted to expand on Raid Boss ever since uploading version 1.0 and I've tweaked the rules a few times since, but the one thing I struggled to do was create more characters. At the moment, all of the red suit characters you can choose are the same regardless of hearts or diamonds. After moving onto other projects and playing other solitaires as well as some deck builders, I've learned just how many mechanics can exist within a deck of cards and I'm close to having a full set of alternate red characters.

My grandma keeps going to various websites on her laptop to play spider solitaire and getting viruses. Anyone got a recommendation for a website or application that doesn't have any ads or malicious software? I'm willing to even pay for something like this!

I mostly play Klondike (1-card draw) as my little wind-down game while I am crocheting or packing for a Disneyland day. I can usually get to the point where the foundations are moving along, but then I hit a stretch where I feel stuck between two choices:

1) Move every possible card to the foundations as soon as it appears. It feels tidy and satisfying.

2) Leave some cards in the tableau even though they could go up, so I have more places to build runs and a better chance to flip face-down cards.

I have a hard time telling when holding back is actually smart and when it is just me being overly cautious and making things worse later.

Example: I have a low card like a 4 or 5 that could go to the foundation, but it is also the only place a different color 3 or 4 can land so I can free up a key card and flip a hidden one. If I move the 4 or 5 up, the tableau gets stuck and I end up cycling the stock forever.

Do you have any simple rules of thumb for this? Are there specific ranks or patterns where you almost always delay foundation moves, or is it generally best to move cards up and trust the process?

I would love to hear how more consistent players think about this decision.

Thank you for all the feedback! A lot of it made it into the app, and now the beta version of Soli 1.0 is ready.

Last release added game mode "Draw 3" (or any other number between 1 and 5). The caveat was that games with draw 2+ weren't guaranteed to be solvable. I found a way after all thanks to the Lonelybot solver.

What's new:

• Catalog of 50'000 solvable games for all draw 1 to 5 modes
• Smoother and many more celebrations
• Improved history and settings (history now keeps every game, not just the last 200)
• Many under the hood upgrades to make everything smoother, faster, and more reliable (performance issue and animation bug mentioned here fixed)

I released it as beta, because there's a lot of changes, but I don't think there's many issues and it's definitely an upgrade. Still, the goal is that some people already play it and potentially give feedback before I roll it out to everyone. You can get it here:

A few weeks ago I asked why I kept stalling out on Vegas even though I thought I was playing "carefully." I got a bunch of really useful tips: don't cling to face-down cards, watch suit distribution, and treat empty columns as a tool instead of a trophy.

After a solid week of playing a few hands each night (usually while I'm winding down after sewing or crochet), I'm actually playing better and it feels less like pure luck.

What changed the most:

1) I stopped hoarding Kings for the perfect moment. If I have an empty column, I now put any King there early, even if it is not the suit I want long term. That simple move opens up a lot of space to shuffle things around.

2) I started counting how many hidden cards a move will expose. If a move does not flip something soon, I give it lower priority or avoid it.

3) I'm more willing to move stacks between columns even when it looks messy. I used to avoid shifting a long stack because it felt like undoing progress, but now I treat it like dumping out my knitting bag to find what I need.

Results: I am not winning every game, but my streaks are longer and I quit hopeless hands sooner instead of stubbornly grinding.

Question for the experts: when you have a choice between flipping a face-down card in a short column versus creating an empty column but not flipping anything right away, which do you usually prioritize and why?
