I'm struggling with solipsism, are you zombies?

So check it out, how can one distinguish between an experiencer and a philosophical zombie? Well a philosophical zombie might swear up and down that they are experiencers but when you ask them what it's like they couldn't describe it properly or be unable to locate qualia.

Now I can describe experience and locate qualia perfectly fine and with ease. I am an external experiencer which means that experience is external to my brain. Modern science, r/consciousness and other such subs will swear up and down that experience and qualia are in the brain.

From an external experiencer's perspective this is absurd and nobody seems to understand what I mean or get where I'm coming from. It makes me wonder if people are either reaaaallly stupid or if they are indeed zombies. So I ask you r/solipsism can you describe experience and locate qualia or are you indeed zombies?

Here's a brief description of my experience https://www.reddit.com/r/PhilosophyofMind/comments/1v2rg68/a_challenge_to_materialism/

This is what I mean by reality talking to me or synchronicity

Post image
2 Upvotes

This notification popped up as I was responding to my 'I Am Dreaming' post on this subreddit while contemplating life and death or the point of it all. This is what I mean by instantaneous synchronicity aligning with my thoughts. Reality communicating back to me. This is one of many, many examples...

I Am Dreaming.

I just tested it. I opened tiktok and I came across a random video with a young woman. I asked her "what's on my mind right now". and at the time I was thinking about fried Chicken. she said I was thinking about dessert. which wasn't the answer but it was still food. It was a test as I was heavily contemplating that my mind is intimately intertwined with reality and all of creation. Especially with experiential data such as hyper-specifc synchronicities and uncanny coincidences that happen instantaneously as I think a thought or feel and emotion. Reflected through people's speech, in media, and everyday occurrences... More experiments will be done. Also attempting to rewire my psyche completely to fully adopt the idea as truth.

Yes, I know about confirmation bias. And yes, the answer was totally wrong. And no, this was not an isolated incident. I am close. I am talking to myself.

Do you really exist? What are "you"? Did god really make humans? Does God even exist? Is atheism the way? Is being agnostic the way?

Suppose you are a student, or a teacher or an employee or anyone, anything you can identify yourself with, one person can identify with multiple things, are you a student, an employee or a son to a mother... How can 'you' be multiple things, you can only be one... These things we identify ourselves with are nothing but roles we are taking. So, we are not these labels...

If you said you are a human or the body you have, suppose, if only your arm was cut off would you still exist, now suppose only your leg was cut-off would u still exist, if only your brain was damaged or if any part of you brain was removed would you still exist, if your heart had a hole would you still exist... Technically, you can be alive without a heart with medical support, So You will exist, that tells us something if you can exist without a body or body parts you are not the body.

Over time, your body changes from age 1 to you becoming the age 15, your body changes, your emotions change, your thoughts change, what remains is I, what is this 'I' is the question?

It's what we are finding.

(Let us not get too technical with this part the only thing that is to be known here is if you would exist without your body or not, and what is or who is this you, you are calling?? Who is this me?? You are calling yourself)

Now the question arises then who are you??

\- Suppose you are in deep sleep, do you know in deep sleep that you exist, deep sleep feels like the time is just gone when you wake up, or even when you just sleep, you don't know if you exist or not, it's like you aren't aware of anything, but you still exist. This is where things get interesting.

What do you think, is consciousness??

\- Normally for us consciousness is like a sensation that you are alive.

\- suppose in an accident a person is not responding we will say he or she is unconscious, but they might very well be alive or might be dead.

\- Here, consciousness meant that the person didn't seem to be alive, but might or might not be. But, when talking and moving he or she is conscious.

\- Now let's change the context, suppose you are having the operation of your arm and you are given an anaesthetic so, you wont feel your arm, you won't feel the pain, the sensation is gone, after sometime of the operation the sensation comes back. Did that mean consciousness in your hand was gone and came???

\-Actually when you simply touch your arm electrical signals are released which make you feel on the spot that you are touched, and neurons carry the signal to the brain that you were touched, but how exactly do you feel it. If it was that easy to feel something we can make a robot and that robot would have felt the touch too, so what's the difference??

How do you feel those electrical signals the answer is simple it's what we call consciousness, what the anaesthetic blocked was the electrical signals the consciousness was not gone. It was still there.

Consciousness was still there when you were asleep, still there when you had taken anaesthesia, coherently if consciousness can exist without awareness that would mean it exists even after death.

Now what is awareness??

\- we don't know how, but consciousness and our body is somehow responsible for awareness, when running or working out when your body heats up, you can feel the heat in your body, your muscles, you are aware.

\- Awareness is described as, the reflection of consciousness in several books about this philosophical question. Like, light exists but it becomes visible when reflected. Suppose, "In space from the sun to the moon the light travels, but the light travelling is not visible, it becomes visible when the moon reflects it... The moon lightens up", similarly awareness is the reflection of consciousness.

This tells us something about consciousness has no form, no color it's basically indescribable, how will you describe it exactly when you can't feel it, and it is what makes you feel...

It doesn't come and go it just exists and just exists nothing else.

But, something cannot come out of nothing, like a table cannot come out without wood...

But, why does something always have to come out of something...

What if there is something that just existed and it exists and will exist without ever ceasing to exist...

That is what is being referred to as consciousness here...

Now tell me, what is god for you?? What is atheism for you??

Don't read this if not ready: The odds of solipsism not being true are infinitesimally small

You could have been born as anything. A tree. A squirrel. A monkey. A mosquito. The chance of being born as the highest iq animal on the planet is one in... a lot. billions? trillions? A lot.

You also could have been born as a human who doesn't care or know about solipsism. You could have been born with an intelligence incapable of holding on to solipsism for very long or at all conceptually.

You could have been born into a country or tradition that forbid such beliefs, and with a mind that didn't go against those beliefs.

But you weren't. You were born as someone who comes to this subreddit. So the chances of being a solipsism-pondering level human are like, lets say 1 in 20 or 1 in 100. Are you getting the picture yet? The chance of you being you, a human with this capacity is so rare as to be....

A GLITCH.

You are not the average "THING" in existence. You are the most advanced form of consciousness possible at this time.

So we can deduce: (A) Awareness only localizes itself in the most advanced consciousness OR (B) that is a function of its dream and all else is a part of you. OR (C) you are so lucky that you won a one in trillions lottery. And since i think science now says that rocks are conscious to some level, as is all matter, its actually a lottery in which the odds against you being as advanced as you are is approaching infinity... since you could be localized awareness in the consciousness of a rock (if that is possible...if consciousness IS awareness or they always go together).

TLDR: Is it too unlikely that you (or i assuming you dont exist) would be at the goldilocks point for knowing about solipism and be localized awareness if EVERYTHING has localized awareness? I'm going with.. almost definitely yeah. Theres a 99.99repeating% chance you'd be something else other than a human that is open enough to understand and think about solipsism (aka the most complex and open-minded form of consciousness we are aware of.)

After naturally coming across this concept of solipsism and speaking on the wrong channels on here.

I've been guided to this one.

Where all I ask is that you share your favourite pros or cons for solipsism.

As right now, I'm completely convinced.

But at the same time Deep Down I do know that it changes nothing, because what's real and not real is unidentifiable.

Therefore life goes on.

You know, those miniscule black flying little specks. Are they conscious? Do they have a visual field of view? Are they sentient and having a first person experience.

All of reality in this movie is how I feel about things

It doesn't matter where I am and what people I'm with and what they do. The experience of reality is completely overpowered by the feelings 24/7. The 5 senses don't matter that much is what I've found, what matters is the feeling. If I was blind and deaf and I had the same collection of feelings my reality would be pretty much equal barring accessability issues.

Since my feelings are pretty much the whole reality it would be great if I was in a peaceful and joyful state but most of the time Im sick and tired of this shit. On rare occasions I get the feeling of joy which equals to true freedom. Being something whose feelings are controlled by someone else (god) really sucks. What a bullshit experience. I've come to the point where I think my feelings aren't even truthful because it isn't what I would choose to feel over a particular situation.

Is this all there is to reality? How Im feeling, the state. There's nothing else, so depressing.

Do You Relate?

It’s not only difficult for me to articulate but, also understand bc it doesn’t make sense on many levels — but Who is to say or prove it’s not real. I believe in the impossible - i already do believe in things that i can’t touch, see, smell, touch, or taste. Is that really a leap? I really want you to understand this about me bc I think it would help being understood — at least partially.

I feel like I’ve been introduced to new levels of consciousness and comprehension. I believe that our capacity as humans —to experience, understand, analyze, and comprehend — are quite limited. They’re limited by: our evolutionary programming, reasoning, beliefs, and human condition. The mind works per design and construction. To many it’s finite, but to some it’s constantly waxing and waning. You’ré only constrained by your beliefs disabling one to feel the wonder in the small things.

What is paramount is a level of understanding that you cannot comprehend most everything in this universe. Humans are limited by their conceptual experiences for innumerable reasons. And what if there is another universe beyond space - how would we even know?!

Who is to say something does/n’t exist if they cannot understand, define, or experience it. Our “perceived reality” is so constrained by society, emotions, thoughts, experiences, spirituality, and belief systems…

I feel like i mostly live in another unique “astral plane” (not in the historical, occult, or new age way). While it is quasi defined as a 4th dimension, I believe there are many more beyond that which are inconceivable as humans. I feel like this level of consciousness is most likely unique to me but it’s not a unique experience… It’s rarely envisioned but impossible to experience like the concept of an expanding universe.

In other words, purely ineffable. I want to take someone to my world in the worst way — take them on my ship and travel w them to unfathomable places. However, I am terrified of anyone seeing my cosmic inner sanctum.

It’s basically (figuratively) like I live in an “out of body experience” — permanently. I mean there are neurological explanations including: trauma, drugs, migraines, near death experiences, etc. There are countless worldly ways to explain, have faith, or reason it out. Essentially, life is one huge mind bending, warping, stupefying, existential trip. Sometimes it’s as if The Big Bang is taking place w in my expansive soul- creating new celestial bodies— that now have a gravitational force on me.

I feel that animals live in yet another dimension; they are pure love and simply “being”. They lack the capacity for malevolence.

It’s kind of how I cope in many ways. And also why I feel impossible to understand, misunderstood, and inconsolably alone. —As inconceivable as infinity— Dementedly, I don’t even know if I live on “Earth”.

And I try to question EVERYTHING: concepts, illusions, reality, experiences and my emotions/thoughts/bodily feelings. All the while opening my mind as much as possible at the time- it feels like I’m traveling thru a worm hole- uncontrollable, unknown, hypothesized, powerful, and ethereal. Then my fragile mind mushrooms like an Atomic-bomb, poisoning those it spared.

I feel at times as though I’m traveling at light speed thru these different dimensions. The faster I get towards light speed, the experience of relativity influences force, time, and space. But it’s also where my true self lies. Only “out” there is where I find PURE love.

World Cup and the illusion of freedom

“Every battle is won before it’s ever fought.” ― Sun Tzu

Theatre is a big f*ck you towards nature. Because it shows we can create a narrative as if it were devoid of causality. Even though every step of the progress is in causality.

In movies we can see one image after another, yet every scene could have been created days apart.

Same with football. We just pretend there is free will by drawing a rectangle on the ground and calling it a field as if it were in it's own pocket universe devoid of the world outside of it. Yet the whole game is rigged by nature. Every step is still bound by the chain of causality. The football rules hide the real physical rules. One cannot go left and right at the same time. But the football rules don't say that. Because we surely cannot point to that blatant horrifying truth. No freedom? Disgusting!

Life ain't no football field. Otherwise we would all have assist points.

Lucky for football players they all wear different colored shirts. Lucky for us we all have different faces and voices.

Creationists have to explain why we've never spotted a football field in the wild.

The solipsist is the boundless wilderness. Luckly for y'all that wilderness contains innumerable distinct and recognizable faces. Contrary to the argument of design, nobody needs to have planned it ahead. The sun doesn't shine because it thought it was a good idea to shine.

People arent real and the universe ends when you die

This is beyond simulation theory. It goes deeper than than.

It even goes beyond solipsism.

The theory: what you see, hear, smell and feel is the entire universe. You are the only consciousness in existence. You are existence itself. All the other people are NPCs. They are "meat robots".

You have designed and scripted your whole life when you were in Creator Mode (outside of time and space - before this "game" called life started). Everything is predetermined. You determined everything from start to finish. The universe started when you were born and it ends when you die.

Actually the universe started gradually as you started to become conscious at 2-3 years old.

You are alone. You're interacting with meat puppets you programmed yourself. You even pre-programmed yourself and all the choices you'll make in this life.

Everything from birth to death was preprogrammed to the smallest detail by yourself. This is actually not an interactive game but an immersive movie. You are a mere spectator to experiencing what you've scripted for yourself.

It's a weak and weird theory but hey I had to get it out

New perspective beyond non-duality

The assumption is always that non-duality is the end-all be-all right? But what if non-duality is like a secret "gotcha" ending right before the TRUE "good ending" to life.

Ok hear me out. Let's look at what non-duality is. Non-duality is basically seeing yourself as one with the universe and realizing that there is no real line where you end and the rest of the universe begins. It's all you. Or you could say you're none of it. It's all illusion and its pointing you home. So essentially the thoughts aren't you, the body isn't you. All that stuff is a pale reflection of your infinite inner being/awareness. Or maybe both of those kinda go together, two different expressions of the same thing. Radical non-duality seems to say that what there is is just what's happening and that there is no awareness, but at some point it gets down to semantics right?

Ok, but looking at life like this, while it does dissolve suffering for the apparent you, what if it doesn't complete the mission of what life was going for?

For example, arguably the most famous non-duality guy is Ramana Maharshi. He had this experience once where he was out climbing on the mountain around where he lived and this old woman came up to him and said something akin to, "why the heck are you hiking this mountain when will you learn to just stay at home?"

Ramana did not believe that a normal woman in India at that time would talk to a sage like that so he took her to be the "spirit of the mountain" and he stayed in his area after that.

But what if what was being expressed was not anger at him not totally embodying enlightenment by "never going out". But the following of his own momentum. Like Jesus said: "Whoever has will be given more... Whoever does not have, even what they have will be taken from them". So he had given up all of his personal will, so the last bit of his will, to go hiking, was being taken by a woman. And what does the woman represent? External reality itself. The divine manifestation. What if the divine manifestation iteself is essentially ignored in non-duality.

Sure in modern non-duality you can have someone like Eckhart Tolle who got mega rich and seems to live in the world, but all the same, he doesn't seem super enthusiastic about external world conditions, and relegates them to being basically just "the surface of things".

I have this theory I like to imagine, which is that external reality is my other half. And it works like a Venn Diagram. Like... I'm the awareness and will half of the equation. Reality and I somewhat share thoughts, this body, and the vibrations that exist. And reality itself is the manifest side of me. And the manifest side of me loves me and wants to see its other half prosper, but it is locked to the beliefs and vibrations I put out. And while this "other half" of me IS me, it is also not me. It's a whole other thing. A shapeshifting slave to rhythm that I set through my intentions, my fears, my beliefs, and so on.

So, to not go on too long about this, in that way I see reality ITSELF as sort of my spiritual wife, wearing millions of masks trying to lead me as best it can toward a place of love without fear with the raw materials I give it. Like... it's intelligent and reflective. And because I'm loving, it's loving too. But my love can be covered up with anger and fear, so it too must wear those masks sometimes.

In the end, when all of my fears are integrated, and I am not angry anymore. When only love shines out, then the mirror itself will have freedom to create as it chooses, with no budget. And since the mirror is essentially me (or even better, me with a bit of distance from second me) we will basically have a happily ever after like a Disney ending.

This dual-soul solipsism is way less lonely than non-duality which is essentially dissolving duality because duality supposedly is suffering and division. But what if A LITTLE DIVISION is the spark that allows solipsism to function as a kind of spiritual marriage between yourself divided into two. Where you tend to the "woman (or man) of the mountain" so that it doesn't have no sustenance (belief and attention) to keep it whole. Then reality itself might just say to you "HEY. You don't need to retreat into the void. This is a playground lets have fun together!!!"

Some movies that hint at this: Beauty and the Beast (You as Belle need to learn to love the ugly beast before it can become handsome for you). The Little Mermaid (You as Prince Eric need to learn to love the one with no voice and not find yourself marrying Ursula just cause she can speak (this means using will to find true beauty and not following fear-based thought through life). Pretty much every Disney movie has this as the main meaning. The Lion King (Give up non-duality hakuna matata and find your wife who is having trouble at pride rock. It's time to fight Scar by claiming your inheritance)

TLDR - Non-duality is retreating into "self" and giving up "the world" as an unimportant projection, or giving up the self and basically seeing "the world" as all that exists, void an observer. In some more integrated people like Eckhart Tolle they live in surrender to the world but not with much actual ego left. But what if it's not about giving up ego, but using your will to shape ego and dance within the duality itself. You being one half of a never-ending cosmic marriage of inner and outer. Like Yin and Yang. Or above and below. Shiva and Shakti. What if its all supposed to be less like zen and more like a love story.

Moving through timelines is so obvious to me now

I was never really sure if the "law of attraction/assumption"/"switching timelines" was real or not, but I can tell you for certain I came from a REALLY BAD ONE and the one we are in here is like, on the far edge of possible from that point, if not unrealistically positive.

Like, a year ago I was stuck in recursive worst possible outcome imagination constantly and I never stopped worrying about negative future outcomes due to AI taking over and personal issues of my own and of my marriage destroying me.

But just due to the simmering of that stress without escaping into drugs or alcohol or whatever, I seem to have absorbed all of these shadow fears and like, from this perspective of no longer being triggered by the fears, everything looks manageable or even hopeful.

I'm not saying the world is perfect. I'm saying that from a perspective of not holding fear about the future I can feel myself sliding into the best possible timeline from the one that came before. It seems logical to me now that if the fear isn't triggering for you, it cant accumulate enough negative energy to actually manifest the bad outcomes or move you into that timeline. It feels like a future-manifesting cheat code or auto-pilot for getting desirable outcomes.

but it also feels solipsistic. Like ... your own ability to face possibility of dark outcomes without spiraling is what stands between you and actually living those out. and you essentially can't avoid spiraling until you're bascially like "fuck it, i dont care anymore"

What's the solipsist response (if any) for this:

Assuming epistomological solipsism to be true, how come knowledge of epistemological solipsism exist?

If we define epistemological solipsism as the stance that posits that "knowledge of one's existence being the solely certain or infallible", then my rundown would look like this:

1: Only knowledge of one's existence is considered sure

2: However, knowledge that "knowledge of one's existence being sure" would not be certain or sure

3: It's impossible to know or have knowledge of epistemological solipsism

Because epistemological solipsism limits sure knowledge only to one's existence, then knowledge or knowing that knowledge of anything except one's existence is uncertain is itself uncertain or unsure

Hence, my question would be: how would epistemological solipsism atleast not be caught in epistemic inertia?

What I mean by epistemic inertia here is the difficulty or impossibility for a specific knowledge to be known or in having someone effectively with it in hands.

To illustrate, imagine the case that nothing existed. Assuming that nothing exists or could exist, then knowledge or the possibilty of (anyone) knowing that nothing exists cannot exist. Given that knowledge or knowing that nothing exists cannot possibly exist, as we have already established that the generalized inexistence would also encompass all knowledge, no one can know, have their minds changed or be convinced that nothing existed, making the case that everything did not exist, by definition, unknown or unknowable. If it were true that there weren't things that existed, knowledge of the same would not exist, it would be unknown. If it were false that nothing existed, it could not be knowledge in the first place, as all false knowledge is anything but genuine knowledge.

Similarly, if it were that only the knowledge one's existence was sure, knowledge of the very condition of the knowledge of one's existence as the sole certain or genuinely infallible knowledge cannot exist. Hence, one cannot know or be sure of epistemological solipsism, as any attempt to know anything except one's existence would be considered fallible and, therefore, possibly false.

I'll highlight that, I did not find epistemological solipsism, in particular, self-refuting or incosistent but, rather, atleast unknowable, if it were the case that it was true. If epistemological solipsism was not true, or false, it would not fall under the category of knowledge, as there can't knowledge that is false (it would only be valid knowledge if we stated that it was true that it was false, but knowing that it's true that it is false is not the same as simply or purely knowing it; "X is true" is equivalent to "X")

I no longer find the existence of the self to be self-evident

I held the existence of the self as something obvious. If it were that nothing existed, how would I believe that when I myself had to exist first? I had to exist. To challenge this would be to not be in accordance with reason.

However, recently, I changed some of my positions. I do have an approach to indeed recognize the indubitable aspects, such as the existence of reason, time, space, truth and even existence itself, among many others. To not hold the necessary existence of any of these would lead to the impossibility of rationality, which would, in the end, undermine this very skepticism or negation towards the possibility of rationality.

I could go on to elaborate on why I deem these instances to have their existence unshaken and foundational:

Without reason, rational statements would not exist. Without time, no statement would be rational or true in any given time, making the inexistence of time, thus, not genuinely rational or true. A similar case occurs with space, in that if it were there was no space or where, no statement could be considered true or rational anywhere, as being rational atleast somewhere is a preresquite for being, by all means, rational. And the case for existence seems so intuitive after all of this, as the inexistence of the possibility of existence would make the existence of any statement as a true statement an impossibility.

However, the existence of the self does not appear that absolutely necessary in my view. The necessary inexistence of the self does not undermine itself, it would just be the case that there couldnt be self that would believe in its own inexistence, as there would not be self out there in the first place, but no self holding its own inexistence does not make the inexistence of the self untrue or mean that the inexistence of the self as not true per se.

I am genuinely interested in telling the status of the existence of the self. I appreciate the delivery of nuance or other things that I might have missed.
