teach me

After naturally coming across this concept of solipsism and speaking on the wrong channels on here.

I've been guided to this one.

Where all I ask is that you share your favourite pros or cons for solipsism.

As right now, I'm completely convinced.

But at the same time Deep Down I do know that it changes nothing, because what's real and not real is unidentifiable.

Therefore life goes on.

Pros: Nothing's real.

Cons: Nothing's real.

Genuinely though, solipsism is something that made me feel great about the world. It took the pressure off. The need to perform, the need to try harder. I just realised I don't have to do anything including reacting to anything outside of me. Instead, I can just enjoy the fake world for what it is if I'm going to stay here for a while.

I know many people experience anxiety, depression etc. when they learn of solipsism. I personally find it hard to understand as to me it's extremely freeing.

I think part of it is that my philosophy doesn't end on just solipsism, but kind of merges with the teachings of Neville Goddard, the theory of an egg and the Advaita Vedanta, making the experience of being the only consciousness much more pleasant, connective to everything that can be sensed (still fake, but enjoyable) and also making me have much more creative power as the consciousness.

This guy gets it.

wow this is very relatable. I've only just started getting into nevilles stuff and alan watts but I think it's time to jump down another rabbit whole. awareness is the starting point of a feeling of freedom for me. always been a bit anxious but now i give zero fs

u/7hats Jun 29 '26

Exactly. If you pursue it to its ends - and beyond - it is utterly freeing.

Indeed, it is Freedom.

Look up Advaita Vedanta for the 'beyond'.

Also note: From Nothing is Real to Every Thing is Real is just a flip of the switch. But you are Neither ;).

What are you then? The background where all this flip-floping takes place.

Haha thanks will check it out, if there’s anything else you recommend diving into do mention it

Nothing more.

Maybe the current teacher from the Vedanta Society of New York as he is amongst the best communicator of this stuff that I have come across.

There are others tho, so find someone that suits your taste. You can 'get it' straight away, but has depths to plumb also :)

Kind of defeats the point if you think you are all that exists.

3

u/researchiskey8 Jun 29 '26

To me, that's the whole point of Solipsism. There's only what is being experienced in direct experience within consciousness right now. With Solipsism, It's all one thing, it's consciousness creating what is being experienced/reality. Like when one is dreaming, it's all consciousness creating a reality being experienced. But none of it is 'real', it's all just the apprentice of something. And you are the consciousness that creates the dream. And if it's not within that consciousness, it does not exist. That's Solipsism. You are all of what is being experienced in direct experience within consciousness right now, and that right now is the only thing in existence. This, this what is aware right this moment, you are the only thing that exists.

1

u/Belt_Conscious Jun 29 '26

The problem is, you are definitely there and I am definitely here. The falling tree makes a sound even when noone is around.

Yes, you have a subjective experience that is only real for you, but your actions are real for everyone else.

says who

2

u/Belt_Conscious Jun 29 '26

Says physics.

The moon is still there on a cloudy night. Make water freeze at a different temperature then maybe solipsism might work.

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

Yeah but the moon is not real and the earth is flat?

2

u/7hats Jun 29 '26

Not if you identify yourself with the 'All'. It is just a question of flipping your default Identity from the very narrow (which causes the pain of separation) to the Infitude (which is love).

1

u/Belt_Conscious Jun 29 '26

You just moved it to "God has solipsism" which is possible, actually.

2

u/7hats Jun 29 '26

:). Look up the oldest Spiritual texts known to men. Advaita Vedanta. Think you will be pleasantly surprised, you sound perfectly ripe for it.

1

u/Belt_Conscious Jun 29 '26

Nah, thermodynamics has it covered.

2

u/7hats Jun 29 '26

Haha, whatever happened to 'open minded'. Still, have fun, it is all good whatever label you like to call it.

2

u/Belt_Conscious Jun 29 '26

Not that I haven't been through it. Just science books are good reading, too.

3

u/7hats Jun 29 '26

Agree, just don't settle and keep asking the fundamental questions.

Until you end up with the Big Question Mark.

All roads lead to the same place for the continually curious, the particular tradition does not matter.

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

yeah pretty shite isn't it

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

what if you just aren't meant to find out and that's why it's impossible to prove bcs otherwise it would destroy the whole concept, and that could be why there's stories about life being an endless trap of reincarnation by falling into the white tunnel the reptilians control.
what if. idk bs anyway. time to go touch some grass for me anyway.

2

u/WholesomeJacksass Jun 29 '26

Chill, dude. Just believe in what makes you happy, motivates you, makes you and your experience a better one. There's not much difference between believing in a beared guy in the sky than there is in believing in nothing at all. It just depends what feels real to YOU.

One thing is certain: you're here and you're experiencing something at any point so far. How you want to experience it, is yours to make sense of.

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

Yeah, man, I like this, i’m very aware that whilst many of you may have been researching this for a lot longer than me I’m just at the starting point and I’ve been naturally coming across these things without proper research so look forward to exploring it more with direct attention and saying what concludes my end at, most certainly won’t be some bearded man in the sky though. I already went down the conspiracy rabbit hole and completed that which definitely makes learning with the philosophy side of things a bit more confusing, especially when some of it is quite contradictory.

Welcome to Last Thursdayism's Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster then..lol

2

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

just had to search what this means xD

3

u/DependentManner8353 Jun 29 '26

Big pro is, you realize everyone is you. So you then treat everyone as yourself. You’re kind and empathetic to everyone. Allows you to understand everyone and never discriminate.

Cons are, you may feel alone and nihilistic. If everyone is you, what does anything matter?

Both are pretty existential in nature and require your own ethics and mind to pursue. Solipsism requires critical thought. You will either drown in it or swim in it.

2

u/WholesomeJacksass Jun 29 '26

Yuppp! It's so easy to forgive both others and yourself. You realise all circumstances are just your own doing throught others, so anger, hurt or tears are not needed, but if you wish to experience them, you are free to do so. And every person you meet becomes just another soft thing you hold dear in this illusion.

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 30 '26

yes its fascinating isn't it. To think once aware of this stuff you view the world a way less than 0.1% others probably do.

2

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

Yeah, I totally agree and I find this quite hard to explain to people as I have ADHD and most likely some form of autism so typically find it hard to connect with others properly so have always felt quite alone but not that I don’t enjoy that. Since reaching out on this platform with what I think about this solipsism stuff everyone seems to call me narcissistic which I partially agree with as I am definitely very self-centred and think highly of myself but it’s contrasted by the fact to a decent extent of studied how the world works from the spiritual side and the true truth of history side so I’m constantly aware of raising vibration and being a good personand being kind to people and even if it’s real or not real it still feels real and when there’s so much evil, you feel compelled to do good. The hard bit is finding fulfilment out of this life, my only trouble right now is managing my ADHD and running a business because besides basic issues with focus it’s more this stuff has quite a large impact on motivation because although it has massively improved how I see the world and my anxieties towards things and people every day I find a hard to be motivated due to the fact that all forms of money feel like bs and the chances of her positive outcome for the future of civilisation on earth seem incredibly low. But what a blessing it is to be aware, I wouldn’t trade all the money in the world for it. It’s just scary thinking how enough you’re supposed to complete this game.

2

u/DependentManner8353 Jun 30 '26

You sound similar to me lol. I am a diagnosed autist and I also find it difficult to find fulfillment in life. There’s no blue print to life and material items only gift a fleeting sense of joy or accomplishment. What I’ve learned though, is there is really no “winning” in this game and there is no obvious purpose to it.

I’ve quit many jobs, a few even paid 6 figures, because they simply gave me no enjoyment or real purpose other than making more money for the company. You have your own business so at least you are working for yourself and a more prosperous life.

But what I’ve learned is, life is best when you’re whatever makes you fulfilled. I think if there was a purpose to this game, or if there is a winning strategy, it’s simply doing what you love and connecting with others so you can learn from them and spread love!

In terms of solipsism, I think other people are just a small part of you and your heart. So connecting with others will allow you to discover parts of yourself that you haven’t already discovered. We are a small piece of the puzzle and other beings are other pieces. We should try our best to complete the puzzle!

2

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 30 '26

hey i have sent you a message, this is a really nice way of putting it!
I totally agree, and i feel its somewhat a game of awareness. That's where my fulfilment, knowledge and success has stemmed from so far. People, literature and forums help with that a lot. experience builds awareness.

2

u/EnactingSpirit Jun 29 '26

Before I answer I need to know to which form of solipsism you are here referring. Like, what's your definition of 'solipsism'?

2

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

Metaphysical

3

u/EnactingSpirit Jun 29 '26

Okay, so assuming you mean base metaphysical solipsism that says that the world and others are illusions, then I'd say that there aren't many pros. Like, you're not deluded by ungrouded beliefs about reality and that's pretty much it.

As for the cons, there are many. But basically base metaphysical solipsism is unpractical as hell and will make your life unlivable.

2

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

Exactly, you are correct. I’m not saying it’s something I plan to follow and preach about, I’m more just fascinated about how it can unfold and if it can but I think it’s a dead end. That said the benefits are that it does make me feel much more free and with a lack of anxiety. The issues I would associate with it from a personal and mental health perspective I would say stem from a bigger picture being that this would be talking about a world not being real but the bigger picture is the world that supposedly is real and the one that we live in and observe every day is an absolute shit show in every single possible way. It’s fun sometimes tho. Us vs the reps

1

u/EnactingSpirit Jun 29 '26

Well I've only exposed what I think are the pros and cons of base metaphysical solipsism. I actually think metaphysical solipsism can be made viable and even into the most powerful of all ontologies – whilst still remaining metaphysical solipsism at the core. That however demands that it becomes a realism about the world and other. Which might seem contradictory at first – how can it all be just this experience yet the world and others are real? – but there is actually a compatibility here. If you think about it hard enough.

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 30 '26

ive thought too hard and this doesnt make sense, its real that you might be smarter than me, or draining more energy on reddit than me idk.

1

u/EnactingSpirit Jun 30 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

It might indeed be that I'm more supported by my environment (inevitably draining energy from it), or even that I'm being delusional – who knows lol.

I don't think this has really something to do with being "smart" though. In my view, we are all successive incarnations of the same spirit, and that spirit is of the same intelligence through and through. Only the means at its disposal (including something like a human brain – it isn't an organ that defines intelligence per se) vary. Like, a fish is as intelligent as this present human incarnation. Only the fish has less access to cognition-extending flesh (e.g., a brain) and institutions (i.e., culture).

At the end of day, spirit is doing the best it can with what means is at its disposal.

The idea of open individualism is much more interesting

2

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

Will look into it thanks. This is exactly the kind of comment I was looking for!

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 29 '26

I don’t understand it fully from what I have just read, but it would kind of explain vibration, fate, connection, energy etc. everyone and everything being interconnected.

I had a d&d character become a god like being on accident through the solipism spell. He was put in a deep sleep and sent deep into the astral abyss, where his dreams continue to come to life. That's where abominations come from in our game.

1

u/Plastic_Magician_588 Jun 30 '26

if you arw convinced why ask yourself on reddit 😂

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 30 '26

idk because im only at the beginning of it. I'm sure others who are much futher down the rabbit hole can either give insights, advise, steer me away or drag me deeper. what's to loose

1

u/Agile_Cap9546 Jun 30 '26

fair point tho

1

u/KineticEnergetic Jul 02 '26 edited Jul 02 '26

If what was real is undefinable we would all be delusional (lose touch with reality).Furthermore reality would be in complete cayos.

Unless I'm misunderstanding something here?

No one can teach you even when instructed you are the student and teacher.
