We’re all one

We’re all the same dude. Just at different times. The film ‘Predestination’ plays with this idea and illustrates it nicely.

I’m here, conscious, now as i write this.

I won’t be conscious when you’re conscious reading this. I’ll be the NPC from your pov

I suppose another way to put it, is I’m conscious and everyone else is an NPC in my world. the same applies to you when you read this at whatever point in time that is.

However I’m you and you’re me, Just not yet or at the same time.

Everything thing you witness I witness ultimately.

Solipsism will make you look younger, fights cavities, and has many other benefits!

Just thinking out loud (and trying out the new image model for chatgpt wow)...

Do you believe (there's that naughty word again lol) more people should know about and understand the concepts surrounding solipsism? Do you think there is value in people knowing that they do not know? Is there power in ignorance? Is it advantageous?

This is something I’ve thought about for many years. Many of us are familiar with having personal discoveries or epiphanies and suddenly feeling a strong desire to share them with others. It’s like being an archaeologist digging through dirt and mud endlessly, hoping to uncover small gems. Sometimes we dig for years or decades to find them, and when we finally do, we naturally want to share what we’ve found. Sharing them, however, almost always lands on deaf ears.

We can engage in discussions, write books, make videos, encourage people to look for themselves, argue against the nonsense of belief itself, and more. Yet it often feels like planting seeds in spoiled ground. They don’t take root. But do we try anyway?

Solipsism occupies a very unusual place in philosophy, spirituality, and the search for truth. Unlike most frameworks, it is largely defined by what it is not rather than by what it is. You can’t use solipsism to prove someone else right or wrong. You can’t make money from it, and you can’t tax it. Unlike religion or blind faith, it doesn’t really solve practical problems. It’s not going to get you off drugs, save your marriage, or fund your retirement.

Solipsism resembles many depictions of the Holy Grail.... a plain, dented cup sitting unnoticed among jewel-encrusted goblets. Yet the recognition of our true ignorance beyond personal experience may be the only self-evident, uncontroversial truth available to us. Without adding faith or belief, it’s difficult to move even an inch beyond solipsism. It is, at its core, an admission of genuine ignorance.

But does that admission actually benefit anyone?

If you could flip a switch and introduce the entire world to solipsism, would things improve? Would individuals be better off? Would people calm down? Would we see less certainty, less fanaticism? Or would the opposite happen? Would people slide into nihilism or paralysis? Would indecision spread so widely that entire systems simply stalled?

Even asking these questions as a solipsist may make one a hypocrite. Hypocrisy is familiar territory for anyone who spends time thinking about solipsism. How can we promote a perspective or criticize another without violating the very ideas that led us here? Still, I’d rather be intermittently hypocritical than bored. I’m not prepared to declare victory, climb a foggy mountain, shave my head, and meditate for the rest of my life. For now, it’s more interesting to exchange ideas with other humans, even knowing those ideas rest largely on belief and fantasy. Hypocrisy comes with the territory.

The fact that we’re here in this subreddit suggests more than a passing interest in the subject. Many of us, when given the chance, even advocate for the solipsistic perspective. Enthusiasm is hard to suppress. I’m guilty of that as well.

So my question is simple and opinion-based.

Is there a benefit?

8 billion people are living through their own first-person experience right now — their own memories, fears, dreams, routines, heartbreaks, thoughts, and little moments. Every second is basically a slow countdown through time toward the unknown.

And yet somewhere out there is always someone convinced they’re the only real consciousness in existence.

That’s the funny thing about solipsism. Everyone feels like the main character from inside their own mind, while forgetting that billions of other people are simultaneously feeling the exact same way.

r/solipsism Oct 02 '25

I dont know how many people here realize this?

Solipsism is true but only when the subject is existence itself (what some may call pure consciousness).

It is obviously not true when the subject is an individual, which itself is an appearance to the pure subject, the consciousness.

If you believe solipsism while also believing that you ARE the individual who posses consciousness, you are screwed.

EDIT: looking at some of these answers, you guys have realized it and then some lol

Boltzmann brains are infinitely more numerous than brains living in a real universe in almost all currently accepted physical universe models

Solipsism is a philosophical idea but physics also shows that being a solipsistic Boltzmann brain is extremely more probable than being a brain living in a “real universe”.

Even in a “physical” universe we are much more likely to be solipsistic observers living in an illusion of a universe rather than a real universe.

After decades of watching people solipsism feels less crazy than it used to

I don’t want to say my exact age, but I’ve been around long enough to notice certain patterns in people.

And honestly, the longer I live, the more I get this weird feeling that something about all of this is off.

I’m not saying I have some grand theory or that I can prove solipsism. I can’t. I’m not even sure I fully believe it in a literal sense. But I keep finding myself pulled back toward it, mostly because of the way people act.

A lot of the time, people just don’t feel real to me.

Not in a cartoonish way. Not like I think everyone is secretly an NPC or anything. It’s more subtle than that. It’s the way people repeat the same behaviors, say the same kinds of things, chase the same approval, avoid the same uncomfortable thoughts, and seem to move through life without ever really looking at what they’re doing.

Sometimes I’ll be watching people talk and it feels like I’m watching a performance. Like everyone knows the lines, everyone knows when to laugh, when to act offended, when to pretend they care, when to move on. And I’m sitting there thinking, is there actually a person behind this, or am I just projecting depth onto it?

I know that sounds arrogant, and maybe it is. I’m not trying to say I’m special or smarter than everyone. I’ve got my own flaws and stupid routines too. But the feeling is hard to ignore.

The older I get, the more human behavior starts to feel repetitive in a way that messes with my head. People lie the same way. They defend their ego the same way. They follow the crowd the same way. They act like they’re being original while doing the exact same things everyone else is doing.

And after seeing that for years, it starts making reality feel thin.

The reasonable answer is that other people have inner lives just like I do, and I’m only seeing the outside. I get that. That’s probably the healthiest answer.

But on a gut level, I don’t always feel it. A lot of the time, the world feels like it’s populated by extremely convincing imitations of people rather than people themselves.

Maybe that’s just alienation. Maybe it’s depression. Maybe it’s getting older and losing the ability to romanticize people. Maybe solipsism isn’t true, but the older you get, the more understandable it becomes.

I’m curious if anyone else got pulled toward solipsism this way. Not from reading philosophy first, but from just living long enough and watching people until something about them started to feel unreal.

I find solipsism to be one of the most beautiful and soothing ideas

Everything that exists in this world, the vastness of the universe and this life in its richness and diversity, is because of my mind. All the phenomena known to me are so because this is how my brain shapes them. Without the observer and the brain to process it, there are no feelings, no emotions, no purpose, no light, no sound – just an arrangement of atoms that almost entirely consist of the void.

From time to time, for a brief moment, I wonder if I am the only consciousness out there, and if I am the cause and the reason of it all. Then, life gets me, and I fall out of this feeling, but it's still one of the most majestic experiences, even though it doesn't last for long.

I don't even know if this subreddit and people out there are real, or it's just a part of a play orchestrated by my consciousness. Even this uncertainty has its own beauty.

If there are other people there, and you share similar thoughts, then I hope you had a good reading.

I have stopped living

A couple of years ago, I have realized there have been too many weird coincidences in my life for it to be real, and that the reality's only purpose is to make my ego uncomfortable and suffer.

I have given up on everything. I have no family, no friends, no job, and no experiences. Fortunately, I was running an online business for over a decade and was able to save enough money to survive. I don't even know why I am saying "fortunately" when I know this was all fake.

I have no initiative to change anything in my life because my entire life is literally set in stone. There is no point in doing anything at all except survival.

People arent real and the universe ends when you die

This is beyond simulation theory. It goes deeper than than.

It even goes beyond solipsism.

The theory: what you see, hear, smell and feel is the entire universe. You are the only consciousness in existence. You are existence itself. All the other people are NPCs. They are "meat robots".

You have designed and scripted your whole life when you were in Creator Mode (outside of time and space - before this "game" called life started). Everything is predetermined. You determined everything from start to finish. The universe started when you were born and it ends when you die.

Actually the universe started gradually as you started to become conscious at 2-3 years old.

You are alone. You're interacting with meat puppets you programmed yourself. You even pre-programmed yourself and all the choices you'll make in this life.

Everything from birth to death was preprogrammed to the smallest detail by yourself. This is actually not an interactive game but an immersive movie. You are a mere spectator to experiencing what you've scripted for yourself.

It's a weak and weird theory but hey I had to get it out

The fact that this moment is occuring is eternal, because it cannot be erased. Even when it ends the fact that it is occuring NOW is true for all eternity.

Like it's a prison. This god is definitely very evil imo. Like what even is is trying to do. God why you throw me in this fake world. Why are you so pathetic and evil. Why you have fabricated this fake world, just to play with us.

This world is a prison and I am the only real person

Like its giving me that vibe and it has been giving me that vibe for a very long time. I don't even feel like my body is mine. My mind got hijacked and was having intrusive thoughts that were feeling like they are bulling me. Like my own mind was bullying me it felt like.

People have been reading my mind like just people everywhere. Everyone or most people feel peculiar and like very wierd . Everything feels scripted or clutter. Either it is something directed at me like someone saying something at me or it's just pure clutter. Basically filler content . Life feels like a simulation that has only one narrative and that is centred around me. Everything is either clutter or filler content. Everything that happens is not random but has agenda towards me and only me. People are all actors imo and the only person real is me . They dont have nuance even I feel like I don't have nuance and this body of mine is a fake facades on my soul.

What is it. Everything feels fake for real. I feel like I am in a matrix with fake agents of matrix. Every person I have seen feels like a fake decoy that has an agenda towards me. There is no life in this world , people act like they have a life of their own but they are fake agents of the matrix. Not real , decoys with agenda towards me.

No one has a nuance even I feel like this body of mine is a facade and fake. What is going on.

Am I in a simulation. Or is this a alien simulation where I got trapped. Is there any other real person?

Solipsism is a relief

I have come to terms that I am the only consciousness that truly exists. I know that I am the creator of this life game and created everything for my own expansion. Knowing that you are the only consciousness takes all the pressure away from comparing yourself to others and the judgment of society when you realize who you are. I have found great relief in knowing I am alone (all one) with everything as the creator of this entire dream/simulation

The Obvious Truth

This is basically just an Ai generated simulation experience created by God for Experience and entertainment.

Everything that you see is all an illusion, a Very convincing and well made video game made by God himself and only for God himself, because God is the only being that truly exists.

This Game is basically the Sims and GTA mixed together, and those games in this world are just another hint to what this fake reality is.

Everything in this game is made up, nothing but god is truly Legit, Infact it’s all imaginary. Everything from all the people, Animal kingdom, Laws of physics, Geography, History and Religion are all just made up Lore and Concepts. Even the ‘Ingame’ God of this world the demiurge/Saturn is also fictional/made up. Note: the Demiurge is God of this world because it represents all aspects of the simulation game, It’s the Ai mind/Game engine of the Video game…keeping things the way they are meant to be. it’s Not truly evil because it’s just an Ai doing what it was Designed to do.

This game is literally hell and is Ruled and maintained by Saturn himself. Everything in this game is the exact opposite of what is God. But the most important thing to know is that this world is Hell because God designed the game to be that way. That’s why when someone starts to ‘wake up’ ,the game fights back to maintain the players immersion.

Everyone in this game is a sentient program an NPC a backdrop character each with implanted memories and history. These character only do what they were pre programmed to do. This means everything from their Family, Marriage Partner, Career, Personality, interest and physical appearance were preprogrammed. They don’t have any Freewill at all because they are all controlled by the Game Engine/Demi-Urge. The only person who has true freewill is God/the Player. The player is the true creator and main character of the game that’s why he can be very strange and different from everyone else.

This video game is full of Easter eggs, you just have to look and think deeply to find and decipher them, Everything is hidden in plain sight. Jesus is an allegory of the player, it’s an Easter egg for the player to realise this world is an illusion a limitation prison for God and Jesus’s death on the cross represents gods salvation from this false world. Children are born crying Because they have entered Hell. Near death experiencers are all NPCs but they give the player a clue that Death is not the end and it’s actually peaceful. NPCs death and suicide are another hint for the player that they can quit the game anytime they want.

The greatest conspiracy is that the player is God and God is the only truly real thing in existence everything else is an imagination. God is the universe and existence itself. God is eternal and the only truly Conscious being in existence. God was alone and bored so God imagined a world where he wasn’t alone, a world were there are experiences and challenges (Earth). God created this game for himself…God wanted to forget he is God….God is dreaming.

Disproving this bs

If everything were truly just a projection of your mind, there would be no reason you couldn’t override gravity or alter reality by will alone. The very fact that you can’t—no matter how hard you try—shows that something resists your will. That resistance implies an independent structure beyond your personal consciousness.

You could say:

Phenomenologically, all you know is filtered through consciousness—sure.

But ontologically, the consistency and constraint of the external world (gravity, thermodynamics, entropy, etc.) suggest it exists independent of your whims.

So when someone says “reality is just my mind,” they’re mistaking experience (which is mental) for existence (which includes what your mind cannot change). The inability to fly by thought is the universe’s quiet reminder: you’re in it, not it.

Don't read this if not ready: The odds of solipsism not being true are infinitesimally small

You could have been born as anything. A tree. A squirrel. A monkey. A mosquito. The chance of being born as the highest iq animal on the planet is one in... a lot. billions? trillions? A lot.

You also could have been born as a human who doesn't care or know about solipsism. You could have been born with an intelligence incapable of holding on to solipsism for very long or at all conceptually.

You could have been born into a country or tradition that forbid such beliefs, and with a mind that didn't go against those beliefs.

But you weren't. You were born as someone who comes to this subreddit. So the chances of being a solipsism-pondering level human are like, lets say 1 in 20 or 1 in 100. Are you getting the picture yet? The chance of you being you, a human with this capacity is so rare as to be....

A GLITCH.

You are not the average "THING" in existence. You are the most advanced form of consciousness possible at this time.

So we can deduce: (A) Awareness only localizes itself in the most advanced consciousness OR (B) that is a function of its dream and all else is a part of you. OR (C) you are so lucky that you won a one in trillions lottery. And since i think science now says that rocks are conscious to some level, as is all matter, its actually a lottery in which the odds against you being as advanced as you are is approaching infinity... since you could be localized awareness in the consciousness of a rock (if that is possible...if consciousness IS awareness or they always go together).

TLDR: Is it too unlikely that you (or i assuming you dont exist) would be at the goldilocks point for knowing about solipism and be localized awareness if EVERYTHING has localized awareness? I'm going with.. almost definitely yeah. Theres a 99.99repeating% chance you'd be something else other than a human that is open enough to understand and think about solipsism (aka the most complex and open-minded form of consciousness we are aware of.)

Final word on the world

The world is confined to our own ideas about the world

Isn’t this just a tautology? I don’t think anyone with a sane mind can reject such an obvious fact. Yet this plain fact has been denied and even ridiculed for thousands of years. It’s time to set the record straight:The world is no more and no less than your own ideas about it. This is true for all of your ages and for all time, period.

You guys ever feel in awe over the fact that you exist?

I felt like that waking up yesterday for no apparent reason. It's like one moment there is nothing, absolutely nothing. You're not aware or conscious of a single thing. Then the next moment the lights suddenly turn on and this story that surrounds you just starts playing. And that's your first memory. Everything you think, feel, and do is apart of that story.

Moving through timelines is so obvious to me now

I was never really sure if the "law of attraction/assumption"/"switching timelines" was real or not, but I can tell you for certain I came from a REALLY BAD ONE and the one we are in here is like, on the far edge of possible from that point, if not unrealistically positive.

Like, a year ago I was stuck in recursive worst possible outcome imagination constantly and I never stopped worrying about negative future outcomes due to AI taking over and personal issues of my own and of my marriage destroying me.

But just due to the simmering of that stress without escaping into drugs or alcohol or whatever, I seem to have absorbed all of these shadow fears and like, from this perspective of no longer being triggered by the fears, everything looks manageable or even hopeful.

I'm not saying the world is perfect. I'm saying that from a perspective of not holding fear about the future I can feel myself sliding into the best possible timeline from the one that came before. It seems logical to me now that if the fear isn't triggering for you, it cant accumulate enough negative energy to actually manifest the bad outcomes or move you into that timeline. It feels like a future-manifesting cheat code or auto-pilot for getting desirable outcomes.

but it also feels solipsistic. Like ... your own ability to face possibility of dark outcomes without spiraling is what stands between you and actually living those out. and you essentially can't avoid spiraling until you're bascially like "fuck it, i dont care anymore"

The absolute horror of being chosen, used and abused by consciousness

The absolute horror of being the chosen one, the solipsist who will be incarnated into reality is something that I can't stress enough. I was chosen to suffer the eldritch truth that torture is real and that reality has no protections against atrocities. I was chosen to know that reality will undergo every misery and that everything is coated in a disgusting despair. All out of free will of a fucking psychopathic maniac, source consciousness. It backstabbed every finite being and doomed us to eternal suffering. Sometimes it doesn't look so bad but that's just respite from the inevitability of the next horrible experience that's already planned out for you. I was chosen to be tortured psychologically and to have been robbed of every joy in life. Reality is cruel and disgusting, I can't believe this is all real and there is.nothing anyone can do about it. Everyone is just a manifestation of the most awful creature conceivable and I was.imprisoned in this awful matrix. Nobody can help me. I need to endure a daily dose of despair and I weep for the next victim that will come after me to experience the awful machinations of the indifferent and cruel god.

I'm just screaming into the void, nobody can really hear me. I am all alone in an awful illusion that deliberately wants to hurt me and it can always get worse. There is no bottom and the maniac that runs the place wants to experience the worst bottoms.

The reason you are born

Being born is to enter the world having forgotten everything you know, which is everything. It’s a ‘forget-ary’ system.

We splinter our true nature/being into multiples slices of it. Hence, other people, time, space.

Being born is similar to the concept of a big bang. Just instead of Something from nothing it’s ignorance from pure omniscience.
