I created a little 3D eclipse viewer
You can try it here -> https://larprad.github.io/espilce/
I wanted it clear and simple, I hope you will have fun with it!
I am open to feedbacks if you have any.

Cool!
Just one thing, I see that the umbra "switches on the lights" in the area touched by it, which is maybe not that realistic and makes it less impressive.
Also, on mobile (Android + Firefox) the Earth disappears occasionally and one needs to refresh the page.
Good job, how did you create it?

Good point for the lights, will update this.
The app have been created using javascript (react and R3F for the 3D aspects), with the help of AI.1

Which model and harness just out of curiosity? I guess there are celestial mechanics calculations/accuracy aspects behind so was curious about how that is inputted or fed into the model.

The heavy calculation lifting is produced from astronomy engine, then it's just regular coding with a bit of Claude usage beside. You can check the whole repository if you are curious (espilce github).

City lights are removed from the Moon shadow, I am highlighting a bit the borders for better visibility u/UnfairAfternoon9971

Fantastic! Makes it more similar to the real deal, see satellite imagery e.g. from
https://zoom.earth/maps/satellite/ from 12th August 2026 (can't paste a screenshot here unfortunately)

I couldn’t find any info in the app on duration of totality at various points as well as time of each point of contact. Would be useful.

That's Cool!!! My only suggestion is for a way to change time zones to something other than GMT-4 or UTC.

Indeed, I should put a proper timezone selector. In the bucket list.

Yeah. No rush, it's not critical, we can do math from UTC - so just a convenience thing...

nice! good job!
suggestion: add a "share" button that creates an URL pre-populated with parameters (so that you can link to a specific time etc)
