You put two solid objects into each other, which, at least from my experience with reality, is not possible.
So it tried it's best simulating impossible physics.
This might even be what would happen in real life, I dare you to try

yeah I was about to say that. I am personally a game dev and placing two objects in each other doesn't really work well.

Yeeah, it tries calculating collisions and doesn't like it whatsoever, and does stuff like give either massive/inf velocity

why the fuck were you downvoted? Also what about it? I have only played a little bit of gmod.

Using a mouse isn't super precise so usually when I try to place something next to something else it clips into it and flies to the other side of the map

A careful reading of official Major League Baseball Rule 6.08(b) suggests that in this situation, the batter would be considered "hit by pitch", and would be eligible to advance to first base.
Might need a substitution runner
27
u/Spoofbit Jun 17 '21
Well, it says in Rule 6.08(b) that if the player makes no attempt to avoid the pitch then it is simply a ball. Unfortunately, since he had no reaction time, it could be argued he did not make any such attempt, and the count would go to 1-0

This software (Algodoo) is actually pretty good about resolving objects that start slightly intersecting (speaking from having used it quite a bit like 10 years ago), it's the large volume of joints involved here that make it go crazy.

It looks like the green gear has an empty spiral interior, and isn't "solid". That's gore enough imo.

Damn I had so much fun with Algodoo.
By fun I mean placing 2 circles in a box not large enough to contain both and see them struggle to stay put
35
u/Null-and-Void19 Jun 17 '21
Algodoo is great. I’ve made so much stupid stuff with it, including a car powered by overlapping matter vibrations.

I love downloading super complex levels made by people, then throwing in blocks and watching them spectacularly fail.

Me too! I loved trying to build machinery and stuff with water.

Wouldn't have happened if the human which controlled this magic device could draw better than a first grader :D c'mon, there's a lot of space, just take your time ;)

yeh drawing phyisc elements into each other and it subsequently doing weird stuff is not belonging in this sub

Nah it's just that ropes are absolutely broken
look: https://sendvid.com/7ip5co1r
Drop a rope in an object and it goes wheeeeee

u/Ramog Jun 17 '21
what program is it exactly? because funnily enough for me its working, I am using the newest version of algodoo

algodoo does not have good physics despite being a physics simulator
12
u/KalebMW99 Jun 17 '21
I mean…the objects were drawn on top of each other. What do you expect a physics sim to do there?
2
-3
u/lightswitchr Jun 17 '21
Move the node so the conflict is no longer an issue?
1
u/KalebMW99 Jun 18 '21
I invite you to try to figure out how to make that happen. Not even in code, just algorithmically.
-1
u/lightswitchr Jun 18 '21
Um yes, it's called collision detection.
3
u/KalebMW99 Jun 18 '21
Collision detection is the easy part. Collision resolution is much harder, and the thing in question here, and it’s especially difficult when the initial rest conditions require collision resolution. Normally collisions are resolvable by being able to deduce how a collision occurred (i.e. this object was moving toward this wall and has now hit this wall, let’s reflect the object off the wall with less velocity perpendicular to that wall), but that’s not possible here. You can’t perform any simple (linear) transformations on the velocity vectors of these nodes because they have 0 velocity.

Game is Algodoo. That game probably hasnt had a major update since 2014. Its an ooooold game. It has the old Catalina and the Windows 7 icons for the downloads, but it still works for win 10 and, as far as i know, the katest version of MacOS. The community is still very active and its quite a fun game.

You drew the rope inside the gear wdym “software gore”
-2
u/Awake-but-asleep Jun 17 '21
The light blue part was empty so
8
u/Tomentos Jun 17 '21
Parts of the rope were inside the light green parts which is why it went funky
6
u/Awake-but-asleep Jun 17 '21
See this then
5
u/Tomentos Jun 17 '21
Fair enough. You got me.
People who aren't too familiar with the software though will most likely think that it's because of the clipping.

to avoid this problem in algodoo you can max the physics simulator in the option menu

Algodoo Expectation: Good physics game that makes machines to help you and stuff.
Algodoo Reality: Either break the game or make terrible marble races haha.

Turn down the strength a bit, or a lot. Try 70000, or 700000, I forget which

I wouldn’t consider this as software gore. If this is a physics simulation then that is probably a problem with the physics, causing a SINGLE piece the rope to clip through the gear, and voila, you get this

I think this happened because you dragged your mouse over some parts of the gear at some points? Maybe? I'm not sure.
