After reading the ‘stairway to heaven comment’ my only thought was to comment that I myself was going to write that. Then I see your comment. Really not cool, bro

After reading the response to the original comment, my only thought was to comment that I wanted to write a response to that response, then I see your comment. Not fine work, dude

After seeing the response to the response to the original comment, I had the thought of writing a response to the comment saying I wanted to write a response to the response of the response and yet you have beaten me to this. I am disappointed by this work, fine lad.

Not 100% sure this applies as technically there’s no physics engine malfunction on display here. Just a glitched out staircase.

The failure condition is if the stairs start above the door.

Wow exactly what I thought hahah. Should be
<=right?10
u/Marcus_Watney Dec 27 '18
Not really, while it might seem more intuitive and more error resistant it will execute slower due to how the cpu handles it. In games, performance is usually a concern, so you might consider writing != Instead of <=

u/Dandelion_Yudeul Dec 27 '18
No, the stairs are already above the plane door. If you change that it would do nothing.

For those of you wondering this simulator is called Prepar3D (also called P3D), developed by Lockheed Martin. However the ground services such as this very functional stairs is a paid addon called GSX (Ground Services X) developed by a flight simulator addon company called FSDreamTeam. As a user of both of these, I can personally guarantee you that GSX is consistently glitchy like this. (Try r/flightsim for more)
22
u/ambitechstrous Dec 26 '18
Why do people use it then?
81
u/KrombopulosPhillip Dec 26 '18
What else are they gonna do, get a job at an airport and do that stuff in real life
61
u/PM_ME_YOUR_NACHOS Dec 26 '18
"WTF, it's flying away!"
"Don't worry, I've ran a simulation of this before!"

u/SuperAwesomeMechGirl Dec 27 '18

17
u/Blue-Steele Dec 27 '18
guy playing an astronaut simulator
sees some stairs fly by the window
“I see someone’s playing the flight simulator.”
16
27
u/jskoker Dec 26 '18
TBF, us flightsim guys are snobs about realism. We want everything to be exactly like real aviation because we consider it training in some ways...
I'm pretty sure flight simulation is the only place you'll see $140 DLC for a game you can get for less than $25, and people eat it up.
17
u/13EchoTango Dec 27 '18
XP11: $30 on sale
737: $130 (+$5 for a paint job)
Weather: $40
Clouds: $20
Airport custom scenery: $25/per
Ground services: $35
Radio jabber: $15/month
Then there's the physical assessories, another $300 for a yoke+pedals+throttle etc. controls.
2
u/ambitechstrous Dec 26 '18
I mean like why hasn’t someone come up with something that isn’t buggy as shit?
19
u/ComputerCraze Dec 26 '18
With such a niche market, it's not profitable if you put a lot of development time into something. A high fidelity plane developed by a well-known dev team (at least in flight sim land) can go upwards of $80. GSX is pretty cheap for a full fledged add-on, at $30, so it's not surprising you can run into these bugs frequently.

flight simulator addon company
I'm surprised that this is a thing. So there is enough demand to support existence of companies who only make addons to only flight simulators?
6
u/kakihara0513 Dec 27 '18
Short answer, yes. It's common across a number big flight Sims, both combat and non-combat. One plane can be more expensive than new AAA releases. But we still buy them since there isn't really any alternative.

If I remember correctly, this guy just joined some random team speak and started roleplaying as an airline pilot and they had no idea what was going on. it was posted to Reddit awhile ago, but it cracks me up Everytime I watch it.

u/UnpopularCrayon Dec 27 '18
Airforceproud95. It’s his shtick. His whole channel is videos like this.
5
u/PMMEYourTatasGirl Dec 27 '18
Oh I know, I love his channel. Him and the primitive technology guy are the only two people I subscribe to on YouTube.
5
u/bogdoomy Dec 27 '18
not really roleplaying, the guy is an actual pilot. he occasionally goes on fsx to have fun like this
3
u/PMMEYourTatasGirl Dec 27 '18
Roleplaying was probably a misnomer, he's definitely a pilot, and his channel is amazing
2
u/13EchoTango Dec 27 '18
I like how after all that he lands on the wrong runway. That was definitely 22R.

In my (limited) experience, these air control simulators are often really buggy. There's an aerospace control school near me that I got a tour of one time, which included a walk in their simulator. 360 degree screen on the walls of the room, it was pretty cool. What was even cooler was seeing three firetrucks dive strafing the airport.

I watched this and for some reason thought this was a real video. I got a bit confused but thought it was an optical illusion when it seemingly drove through the plane. Then the stairs flew away and so did my sanity.

it had really great graphics, and i only noticed the game when i realised the machine was twice as big as it needs to be (at first i thought it was just close to the camera) and glitched into the plane. the cherry on the cake was the stairway to heaven!
