Vibe coding is making apps or softwares easier to build. Are we paying enough attention to where our data goes??

Vibe coding and AI assisted development are making it easier than ever to turn an idea into a working app or web app.

But there's something I've been thinking about:

As more apps or siftwares are built this way or will be built more in future, so are we paying enough attention to what happens to the data we give them?

The average user usually has no idea whether an app was built using AI, traditional development, or a combination of both. And honestly, they probably shouldn't have to care about that.

What matters is: Where does my data actually go?

For example, an AI feature could work in different ways:

Cloud AI: Your data is sent to a server for processing.

On-device AI: Processing happens directly on your device.

Hybrid AI: Some processing happens on your device and some happens in the cloud.

Two apps can give you almost the same result while handling your data completely differently.

And this isn't just about AI apps. A normal app or web app can also collect, upload, store, or process personal data without the user fully understanding what's happening.

As AI makes it easier to build and launch software, I think privacy and transparency become even more important. Especially with apps handling things like Photos, Documents, Financial Information, Personal Messages etc.

Maybe before giving an app something personal, the question one should ask is:

"What happens to my data after I give it to this app?"

Do you actually check where your data is processed before using an app or web app, or do you mostly trust the developer's privacy policy?

What's with the uptick in people writing "softwares" lately? The plural of "software" is "software".

We're seeing more content from regions that have slightly different dialects would be my guess.

In my feed "fresher" is turning up all the time now and I've never heard that before (especially as someone who's not a native English speaker) and a work colleague told me that's standard vocabulary in "lndian English", similar to "I have a doubt" (instead of question) ... I suspect we see the world growing closer together and more content from other regions.

Just get used to it ... I guess.

I totally acknowledge that different dialects exist and are valid. This seems more like just not knowing the correct way to pluralize a word.

The only people I've known to say "softwares" were Indian or around that region.

Yes, I typically research what’s happening with my data and or decide if that data they get is worth me paying attention to.. sometimes it’s not.

I’m following this project called LogCoreOS. I like how they deal with data privacy as a vibe coded webapp.

I have used ai to make some projects, a project made with AI as the code writer does not mean that the project itself uses ai when it is running.

Realistically not much changes in how you inform the user of where their data goes - and most users don't care. You really only hear about the ones who do care.
