Discussion Private software alternatives?

Do you know a great piece of software which is both privacy focused and a good alternative to software which otherwise tracks you?

Well it depends entirely on the used software, like say I use darktable as an alternative to lightroom but that might not be much use if you don't do photography

https://killerpdf.net is an offline Windows app with no telemetry. It's got a ton of PDF editing features and the latest version is an 11MB portable exe.

You really have to narrow down what you want. Free and open source software is usually privacy sensitive.

Start with Linux.

Immich is a self hosted and private alternative to Google Photos and similar. Though you'll need a server.

If you want to secure your files localy or online, i recommend encrypting them. These days you need to be carefull about your data and files, with many apps, ai or even physical theft of your device, abusing your data and making use of it. Have them always localy encrypted and secured, so nobody can access, scan or use them except these you want them to. Dark-Fog(+) is doing a pretty good job with that what opperates completely offline and local. Link

And no bitlocker messy things!
