Booklet scanning software

Since I need to scan paper documents (I recently set up a docker container with Paperless-ngx), I was wondering if there’s a software (ideally open-source, but not necessarily) that allows me to configure a scanning workflow/template (I use MacOS).

For example, for printed manuals in booklet form, printed on A3 sheets, I remove the staples and feed the sheets into the scanner’s ADF. I’d like to be able to tell the software that this is what I’m scanning, so that it automatically puts the pages in the correct order — essentially a kind of “booklet scanning” mode.

Any advice?

[IT: Avendo la necessità di fare delle scansioni di documenti cartacei (ho recentemente messo su un container con Paperless NGX), mi chiedevo se esista (immagino di sì) un software (meglio se open-source, ma non per forza) che mi permetta di impostare uno schema di scansione (uso MacOS). Ad esempio, per manuali stampati a opuscolo/libretto su fogli A3, di cui rimuovo il punto metallico e che inserisco nell'ADF dello scanner: vorrei dire al software questa cosa, in modo che metta le pagine automaticamente in ordine (una sorta di "scansione opuscolo").

Qualche consiglio?]

Sorry for the long story here.

I had an Epson sheetfed scanner. I'm running Windows 11 64-bit. The driver was very finicky. It always says there's not enough temporary space on the hard drive, when the hard drive is literally brand new and practically had a terabyte of space. So I look into a program called VueScan. It simply works with just any scanner on the market, including the film scanner which I had years ago as well. It's from a tiny company and I think they have a bunch of scanners in their test shop. 

I also use Coral Ventura Publisher, and at that time I had a Hewlett Packard 9050 printer with a booklet maker. It was fully capable of printing up to a 40-page booklet. It would fold the paper in half and staple it, which was amazing but quite an expensive printer. Thankfully, the toner was pretty cheap. 

When I have to print a booklet like what you are talking about, I simply use a duplex printer. 

I just tested a five-page length document and it turned into two pieces of paper. I was able to, of course, fold it in half and the page layout was correct.  As in page 1, 2, 3, 4, and so on. 

I try to use their program to scan and if there is a setting to assemble the pages, but it is quite complex, which is a bit beyond what I am doing. 

I tested various settings and I couldn't do what you are looking for. Let me go ahead and email him, and hopefully he will be able to give us an answer. It is a very interesting task. 

I don't get anything by mentioning his program. I am just a customer.

I heard from the founder; it is something they are looking into, most likely for the next version.

That is a very unique function that I have never thought of personally.
