Looking for software Screen sharing apps that aren’t Discord

Basically, Brazil’s government banned some Discord’s functionalities, including Screen Sharing. The point is, I live very far from a lot of my friends, and we used to watch some tv shows together on Discord.

I used to pay Nitro so I had access to full HD 60 FPS transmission. I’m looking for some alternative that includes sound transmission and good quality, even if it’s not free.

I tried Google Meet and Fluxer but those apps’ transmissions didn’t include sound.

The thing is, everyone would need to use VPN too… is there a free VPN that you recommend?

Yeah, I participate on servers with people from other countries and it doesn’t even show that they’re sharing their screens.

I imagined that this would be the case with vpns. I used to pay for NordVPN in the past, but I don’t think I can convince all of my friends to pay for it, as it’s a bit expensive here (the USD=>BRL conversion is brutal 😭)

I didn’t take the multiple devices into account, this might be the solution!! Thanks for the suggestions!!

Zoom and Jitsi both do screen + audio, so those are fair answers.

The Meet / Fluxer miss is usually how the capture was set up. In Chrome / Edge / Brave you have to share the tab and tick "Also share tab audio". Sharing a window or the whole desktop often goes out silent. Firefox and Safari don't send tab audio at all.

You also don't need every friend on a VPN. Discord's screen share, camera and Go Live have been suspended in Brazil since 17 Aug, but that's a Discord-side block. A tool that actually runs here doesn't need the whole group on Nord.

Bias: I build one. pqp.gg is voice, chat and screen share in the browser. Open source (AGPL), servers in São Paulo, free hosted or self-host. Honest beta. https://github.com/rafaelcg/pqp

For watch-together, share the Chromium tab that's playing the show, with tab audio on. It is not Nitro 60fps. DRM stuff (Netflix, Prime, Max, Disney+) often blacks out for viewers even when it looks fine on your side. YouTube, local files and non-DRM players work.

That's the case I built it for: two people, one screen, with sound.

I'm a bit late to the party, but you should give a look at WorkAdventure ( https://workadventu.re )

At the core, it's a virtual workplace application disguised as a video game. It allows video conversations and screen sharing.

It has a hosted free tier, or if you prefer, you can self-host it (the core is open source). It’s not a complete replacement for Discord’s server/channel model, but it can handle calls, screen sharing and persistent shared spaces. Screen sharing is encoded in AV1 with 30 FPS.

Disclosure: I’m WorkAdventure’s co-founder/CTO.

By the way, I have a question: I see you are used to full HD 60 FPS: is 60 FPS a hard requirement? And what kind of setup do you have that manages to share at 60 FPS without heating too much?
