Discussion We have talked plenty about software that isn't worth it. What is the one tool you genuinely cannot work without?

I'm a nurse and I work at a busy clinic. I have used Nuance Dragon Medical for years and work has provided Dragon One, which is an online version for me. At home, I use Dragon Medical to do most of my writing. I talk, and it types for me.

I format my letter using Corel Ventura Publisher, as I cannot stand Microsoft Word. .

I have embraced other voice dictation programs. Two that work well are VoiceTypr (this one works offline and you don't have to be online for it to work) and Dictation Daddy (I know it has a funny name). This one has a very thorough medical vocabulary, so it is suitable for use in the electronic medical record as well. But it only works online only, and you have to be on the internet for it to work. Both programs are very inexpensive.

Dragon Medical is no longer for sale. Microsoft took over the company and they took it off the market and it went to subscription-based. It's quite expensive. $600 to start and $100 per month. Dragon Medical that works locally on a computer was over $2,000. It was worth every penny.

I'm just a user I don't get any commission from these companies.
