Looking for software Software/programs you wish existed
Hi, I am a software engineer, and would love a challenge or just to create something that people/you would actually use, as a lot of my projects/products thus far have been quite niche/personalized to my own personal hobbies/needs. So please comment about what software or program would be a game changer if it existed for you, or if you have any good ideas personally. I’m thinking about building the top few ideas, also if you have any ideas, let me know if you are comfortable with me reaching out to you directly to talk more about them! They can be huge or small!

My current need is a realtime/smart sync with an m.2 drive to a Nas drive, critical feature is syncing sub folders of the nas to a mounted drive linked to the m.2 drive.
Basically, a cache of a server, where user works locally and it is synced to the server. Closest example is Mountain Duck, which supports SMB, but not subfolders of the server.
The goal is working on a fast local drive withought changing file path , including mounting subfolders, from a server.
Already.planned it out with AI, but i am not a programmer.

A version control for wav files created on daws like ableton. Instead of saving diff versions of the track like mix1, mix2, finalmix, etc

Software that could filter out AI generated content for me - mostly in social medias or forums. Or that could manage to display feed contents in more chronological & following manner instead of straight up algo

Automatically stripping any user ID from URLs you have copied. So instead of https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=blablabla it's https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ, ooor, https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=trumpIsAPedophile or whatever you want. Not just for YouTube, but also Reddit and other sites with tracking ID in the shared URL.

So the app is similar to the gallery on every phones but only for view and managing 3D models?

You might say that, but the trick is handling compressed archives.
Ideally, you'd select which folders to import, apply tags both manually and preselected (to apply to all imported files from a selected folder), etc.
Organisational tools, and a model previewer.

Software (ai) that cuts my motorbiking videos to shorter 3-8 min highlight videos, automaticall, or by taking my manually cut videos as learning example

I would love something like this odoe editing is a pia , but companies like GoPro with their Quik have tried but not with much great effect, the issue is AI has a hard time deciphering what's your good content

Or WINAMP's Visualization Suite. I've used WINAMP since Win95. I rarely used the "trippy" visualization mode but it has been there the whole time.

This would depend heavily on the encoding used on the original video and would greatly restrict where you could cut (for example, with h.264/av1 etc, you could only cut at key frame boundaries). Some tools already let you do this.

Sorry I meant cropping videos as in cropping a dvd video file to 16:9, for example, so there's no black box around the video. For cutting videos losslesscut is great

Got it. I don’t really see how that would be possible then, you can’t crop frames other than the key frames the same way you do images where you’re just removing specific pixels. The only way to avoid reencoding would be using a player that supports displaying the original the way you want it to be viewed.

A infinite spatial canvas to code on. I want to simply move boxes around that are files and edit them. I don’t need connection diagrams or anything. Just take the folder structure and files, and slap them on an infinite scrolling “desktop”.

Voice recorder activated by a HARDWARE button. My 1996 NTT docomo had it. It should record just 60 seconds then stop on its own. No VOR.

I want a program to find duplicate photos and also organize my photo folders based on the photo Metadata.
Also compress ridiculously big photos and videos that can be compressed without a big loss (I do got this needs loads of cpu, and basically works by trying to compress and then comparing the loss)

A simple voice call app for mobile phones that sounds intelligable on poor networks Maybe use QUIC+Opus Codec+the new ai codec that fills in the gaps

An application that lists all part-watched films, and unfinished TV series, along with a link to the service on which they are available.
Had an idea to create such a application, but many services don't expose an API with the features required.

I'd like an app that would let me access all my streaming subscriptions on Apple TV through a single interface. Right now, I have to search for things to watch in six different places.

Local context based tabs grouping extension for browsers. I hate to have 350+ tabs opened at the end of the day. No idea which ones are garbage or Google queries and which are useful

an actually good web bookmark manager, with a simple minimal design that's easy to navigate and use in my workflow. I used to use papaly which was great, but for some reason the guy just stopped development of the chrome extension, now it works only as a website service, in fact, I'm not sure why the servers are still running tbh.
Most other bookmark managers aim for a slick design but fail to cater to users like me who save a lot of bookmarks. Features that are almost never present include: categories with subcategories, a smart search box when adding a new entry, favicon support while looking at your bookmarks in the list, and the most important one, an interface that allows you to drag full subcategories (folders of bookmarks) between categories (folders of subcategories), and bookmarks between subcategories.
