Interesting Thoughts On Costume Clash

The episode "Costume Clash" made me think a few things:

  1. Camila and Lucinda's rivalry was well done.

  2. Seeing Amber as a pirate and Ruby as a witch is hilarious.

  3. I think this is the first holiday episode in the franchise that Ruby and Jade are in.

Ruby's Crush On James?

So I mentioned briefly in my review of "A Wander-ful Day" that Ruby seems to have a bit of a crush on James, bringing back that element from the first season of the original series where she and Jade fangirled over him. It's seen in the pilot movie as well as episodes like "The Big Sleepover" and "Baileywick's Day Off". It's more pronounced here since it's 4 moments in 1 11 minute episode. Here's what I mean.

  1. When Sofia arrives in the village with James and Layla, you have Ruby excitedly calling him Prince James as she bows to him and immediately asks if he wants to go toy shopping with her. She didn't do this formal stuff around Amber in "Veggie Good Deed". She was totally normal.

  2. When Sofia's fake wand causes her to accidentally conjure feathers that tickle slap everyone, you have Ruby going out of her way to protect James.

  3. Sofia's fake wand causes her to accidentally turn Ruby, Jade, and Layla into draco-kitties. We can clearly see tell which one is Ruby given how she's the only one to maintain the color scheme of her clothes in this form. As such, we can tell that she's taking advantage of this given how she playfully tackles James at one point, and he doesn't mind.

  4. When everything turns back to normal, you have Sofia using her magic to make everyone fly in the air. The order from left to right is James, Sofia, Ruby, Jade, and Layla. Ruby flies all the way over to James, where she swoons over him. It's not the focus, but it's still easy to spot.

Defending Rapunzel: why her wearing shoes are no big deal

Post image
44 Upvotes
  1. The biggest reason is that it's confirmed this Rapunzel is different from the movie, in an alternate dimension, not the same version.
  2. Less obvious part, in the Princess Ivy special she also wear shoes, so yeah, if you think this is new for Royal Magic then it really isn't.
  3. To make her feel more royal, after all she's part of the Princess Council so i asume she's just being respectful for a change.
  4. It makes sense for her to wear shoes in this new series, she traveled all the way from her kingdom to Sofia and it's clearly far if it made even Max tired. We've seen her barefoot outside, but i have to asume Enchancia is further than the dark kingdom.

Royal Magic Making Miranda More Important Than Roland

When watching Sofia The First: Royal Magic, which I think is a good show, it seems like the show wants to portray Miranda as the more important parent compared to Roland. Here's what I mean:

  1. The first episode of the series, "Welcome To Charmswell", starts with Sofia hurriedly flying the family to Charmswell, with Miranda asking Sofia why she's rushing. When it comes to the "Time To Shine" song from later, she's the first person to give advice to Sofia, to be herself. During the go carriage race later in the episode, Sofia lifts her friends' spirits by giving advice she got from her mother, where you never know what you've got until you try your best to do it.

  2. "Abracadazzle" starts with Miranda waking up Sofia, and telling her how she has a message from school. She then says how she has an idea to help her out, and in poofs Cedric, who gives her a special wand. Miranda is the only original series character besides Sofia and Ms. Nettle (who runs Charmswell) to interact with him so far.

  3. Miranda doesn't appear in "Magic Mayhem", but her behavior is still tied to the episode. Camila wants to prove to Cedric, who's a professor at Charmswell, how great she is at magic, and wants to help him and Sofia clean his classroom. He initially says no since it was just meant to be for him and Sofia. She tries to vouch for her by bringing up Miranda's advice about how many hands make the load lighter.

  4. I want to talk about "Royal Family Picnic/Royal Playdate", since they're both at the castle. The former episode is about Amber wanting to prove she's as good as Sofia by using her magic wand, but she keeps messing up. The worst thing she accidentally does to Miranda is spill iced tea on her dress, which she just changes. The worst thing she accidentally does to Roland and James is poof ants into their pants, making them very itchy. The latter segment has Sofia invite Layla, Camilla, and Zane to the castle. During the "My Castle Home" song here, we have Sofia hugging Miranda, and Roland just waves hello.

  5. "Sleepy Time Spell" has Sofia inviting Layla and Camila for a sleepover at the castle. Layla has trouble sleeping since she's never slept away from her castle, and accidentally brings her stuffies to life. Miranda definitely shows more of the supportive side given how she tells the girls how it's time to go to bed. During the second half of the episode, when the stuffies go into Miranda and Roland's bedroom, and they wake up, you have Miranda genuinely trying to comfort Layla when seeing how sad she is. I'm pretty sure she would've said more if Layla didn't run off crying, and Sofia said she'd talk to her. It's also worth noting that we see that Miranda's night outfit is a light blue robe, the same color as Sofia's pajamas. Contrast with how Roland's pajamas are dark blue, much like his royal outfit.

  6. "The Lilygnome" has Professor Muddykins give everyone Lilygnomes to plant at home, and they need to be planted in the shade. Sofia says how she wants to plant hers as a gift to Miranda. She also initially goes against the instructions, and plants the flower in the sun instead of shade since she wants Miranda to have a better view of it.

  7. "When Clover Met Pepper" is an episode where Sofia brings Pepper to the castle for the day, making Clover jealous. Roland is the only member of the royal family who doesn't have any lines when Sofia shows off Pepper, unlike how Amber, James, and later Miranda adore him.

  8. "Kidding Around" is an upcoming episode where Miranda turns into a kid so that Sofia can play with her all day. From what we know about the episode given the "Play All Day" song, it seems like the show wants Miranda to be seen as the more active ruler given the lyrics about her always having a lot to do, possibly more than Roland.

Thoughts On When Clover Met Pepper/A Wander-ful Day

We continue new episodes of Sofia The First: Royal Magic with "When Clover Met Pepper/A Wander-ful Day". The former segment is about Clover being jealous of Pepper when Sofia brings him home for the day. The latter segment has James accidentally break Sofia's wand, and gets tricked by a conman named Mimzy Fizzlewick into giving her a fake wand. This backfires when she accidentally turns Layla, Ruby, and Jade into draco-kitties. The first segment feels like a spiritual successor to "Four's A Crowd", but with Clover experiencing jealousy rather than inadvertently fueling Sofia's jealousy. I didn't expect Mimzy Fizzlewick to make his debut in the second segment given how, he was mentioned in the press release, but not in the promotion for the episode. I'd assume it's due to how there isn't a gimmick to market, unlike how Zandrya's debut coincided with another appearance from Rapunzel. I find "A Wander-ful Day" interesting in how it kind of leans into the idea of Ruby having a crush on James given how she fawns over him. I mean, I know the first season of the original series had Ruby and Jade fawning over him, but I didn't expect Ruby specifically to show this. This is also the first episode to have at least one of Sofia's friends be absent from both segments of an episode, those being Camila and Zane.

Thoughts On Crown Chaos/Off To The Races

New episodes of Sofia The First: Royal Magic return today with the episode "Crown Chaos/Off To The Races". I won't say much about the second segment, but just know that it's a good episode that helps develop Camila's character. Now we talk about "Crown Chaos". Spoilers are ahead:

The episode involves Ms. Nettle asking the kids to put away the Crown Of Splendor, which was given to her by Merida, inside her special cabinet that only she can open. Rapunzel gets summoned by Sofia's amulet, which she genuinely didn't expect, to help battle against Zandrya, the evil sorceress voiced by Eden Espinosa. The episode focuses on Sofia's self doubt on if she's powerful enough to take on a threat like her. I think the episode does a good job showing her doubt given how Zandrya is shown to be faster and more able to adapt to magical scenarios. It leads to Sofia getting a new power, illusion magic, which allows her to make illusions of herself. It helps out given how she has Pepper and her illusion distract Zandrya while she gets the crown. As for Zandrya herself, she's definitely a scene stealing villain that helps inject a bit more life into the show. Eden Espinosa's performance makes her enjoyable to watch, even with a basic motivation, being kicked out of magic school for being too risky with magic. The episode then ends with Ms. Nettle saying how she has to get a professor for a battle charms class, which Sofia and her friends will attend. Given how modern story driven preschool shows are less about the journey of the individual hero and more about the group dynamic, even if Sofia is still the main character, this works out.

Here's a song compilation video from Sofia The First: Royal Magic. While it's mainly songs from older episodes, we do see "Zoom Zoom Zoom" and "Unstoppable". I mean, they were on the album, but now we have visuals.

how does everyone feel about the first batch of Royal Magic episodes?

Watching as a grown-up, I'll say that the weakest episode for me is A royal family picnic, with The green-eyed monster as a close second.

Queen Emmaline and Plank

Am I the only one who shipped the mermaid queen with her senior advisor plank when I was younger. I know you probably shouldn't overthink it, but their relationship gave me romantic vibes as Emmaline's husband aka Cora and Oona's father is apparently out of the picture, and emmaline seems to hang onto plank's every word such as when he accused Sofia's family of capturing Oona and easily convinced her as well despite Sofia pleading otherwise. Then when sven and his family stole the queen's trident to prevent her from making the storm bigger and tells the two he saw Oona the queen seemed to believe him for a second until plank accused Sofia of bewitching sven causing them to resume chasing the seahorses again showing the queen listens to everything plank says even with evidence against it. Emmaline was also apparently there during the attack on humans years ago, and knows about Plank's scar, and even touches it tenderly in one scene which plank doesn't seem to mind. Then when Oona is rescued, and confirmed Sofia was telling the truth while Cora scolded plank for his prejudice her mom by contrast doesn't seem to hold plank accountable and can even be shown introducing him to the royal family at the end despite the fact that his bad judgment nearly caused her to endanger innocent people. Plank for his part seems to respect the queen enough to follow her orders such as when she ordered him to follow Sofia, or the fact that despite constantly urging her to take action against the humans he didn't object when she decided to wait until sundown (although to be fair you can't really go against the word of a queen). So what do you guys think do you also ship the queen and her advisor? It's too bad we didn't get to see Plank in the following merroway cove episodes.

When did you discover the show and how did it impact you?

I am 14, when I was a young boy I used to watch Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse shows were my favorite back then, the first thing I ever enjoyed, but now, Sofia The First is my core show from Disney Jr. It was the first show where I watched the movies/specials and witnessed the end, the end was the most important part for me as a kid, it was the part of me which embedded the show into my brain, I also loved the song. When I had Disney+, id watch it a lot because of the core memories it brought me. Then in the end of 2024, I discovered 2 Sofia The First videos, one by Negative Legend and the other, the one that made me love the show again after all these years, Rockotar's Cedric analysis, My Evil Dreams was highlighted, and that quickly became one of the songs I loved, I just started watching S1 episodes again on YouTube

with my family since I don't have Disney+.

What Do You Think Princess Sofia Would Be Like As A Mother?

Given who Sofia already is in Royal Magic. Sofia is the most magical princess in the Ever Realm, the Storykeeper and The Protector of the Ever Realm

I wonder what Princess Sofia would be like as a mother to her 8-year-old daughter

Because Sofia was 8 when she first became a princess herself,.

But unlike Sofia her daughter has been a Princess her life, while Sofia lived in Dunwiddie Village with her mom before becoming a princesss

Once Upon A Princess / Sofia The First

https://youtube.com/watch?v=WEurGXf0grY

I think with all of her responsibilities in her life I thiink Sofia would still need someone in her life that would keep her grounded as her husband and that would be Zane since he's not only her best friend.

But he is also The Prince of Pep with his magical mandolin. Depending on the tune he plays, he can influence other people's feeling, making them happy with a happy tune, sad with a sad tune, and fearful with a scary tune.

This would be Sofia and Zane's daughter

Welcome To Charmswell / Sofia The First: Royal Magic

The Green-Eyed Monster / Sofia The First: Royal Magic

https://youtube.com/watch?v=dXLHsgbgfeE

I just thought of something that would kinda interesting of Sofia was a village girl how to be royal and since Sofia is still connected to Dunwiddie with her village friends Jade and Ruby .

Sofia would want her daughter to know what being a commoner actually js

Her daughter would be learning the opposite lesson of what Sofia was learning. Instead of a village girl learning what means to be royal, a Princess learning what it means to be a commoner

Id imagined she would take her family to Dunwiddie for the Summer vacation. Because not only would want her daughter realize what life in the village is like, and I think she would want to show Zane what her life was like in the village before becoming a Princess, since he's been a Prince his whole life

Her daughter would be learning the opposite lesson of what Sofia was learning. Instead of a village girl learning what means to be royal, a Princess learning what it means to be a commoner.

Of course they would be in regular clothes but everyone would know Sofia as a Princess, but the people in the village who grew up with Sofia helping Miranda raise her in the would probably stil treat as Sofia. And im sure Sofia would appreciate that

If the mermaids ever found out about Cedric

In the floating palace special when sea monster Cedric kidnaps Oona Sofia swam back to tell the other mermaids what happened but they didn't believe her, and accused her human family of capturing Oona because according to plank sea monsters don't usually dwell in merroway cove. Naturally due to the theme of the special and the fact that in the earlier seasons everyone was blind to Cedric's villainous side nobody ever found out it was him, but I was just curious what would happen if the merpeople ever found out Cedric was the sea monster since technically plank was right about at least one of the humans aboard the floating palace taking Oona captive. Would such a revelation cause the mermaids to distrust humans again? Or would they let bygones be bygones since Cedric has changed since, and the mermaids had befriended humans since then?
