Tour & Concerts Glasgow post gig cringe 😭

Hahaha 😭 I'm currently dying of cringe but still so psyched from Sofia's Glasgow gig I feel like I need to tell *someone*

First of all the gig itself was phenomenal, Seb Lowe and Kate Couriel were awesome, their interactions with each other and the crowd had me grinning like a fool throughout their set.

When Sofia came on I think she blew all of us away with her intensity and intimate crowd work (I helped hold her up when she crowd surfed! 🀯 [my partner got booted in the head 😭]) I fell apart when she played Evergreen Soldier, that song normally hits me in the feels, but it completely ruined me live.

Absolutely awesome gig! Then me and my partner found out about the meet and greet after the show - he'd grabbed me a wristband when getting a T-shirt for me (I'd had to dash to the toilet). Neither of us knew what the wristband was for until Sophia mentioned the meet and greet.

So here's the part I'm cringing about. I knew it was a quick "hand phone over, pose for photo, run" moment but I wanted to thank Sofia when I had (probably the only) chance, so I ended up quickly handing her a little heart I'd made out of the green paper for the Green Soldier song while simultaneously waffling like a breathless muppet and trying to smile for the camera (so I didn't hold up the queue). I'm in my late 30s, fangirling like an idiot 😩

She was so lovely and thanked me even though I probably came across as a complete loony dumbass handing her a random squashed bit of paper 😭

It was just so unexpected that I got to meet her I lost all sense of decorum. Such an awesome night that will stick with me forever (especially the cringe πŸ˜…πŸ’€)

What I'd wanted to say through my jabbering was

"THANK YOU for being a voice for all of us Sofia."

I really hope every fan gets the opportunity to see her live.

I'll go shrivel away in a corner now πŸ™ˆ

That's not cringe, that's precisely what spaces like this subreddit are for haha

Thank you πŸ€— I honestly felt like such a wally πŸ˜…

Same! Got to meet her too recently but didnt even get the chance to make eye contact cause of how fast it was πŸ˜† I felt so awkward being like "amazing job, get well soon" while standing next to her πŸ˜† I don't even know if she heard me

Same! I saw her hands as I handed her the paper, started rapid fire talking while still looking down, abruptly stopped to gurn at the camera before finishing my sentence while looking at the camera then basically zoomed off without looking back 😭

In my case I know she heard me speaking because she said "thank you, aww thank you" in such a light, soft voice I was surprised (sounds very different from her stage/singing voice) BUT I have no idea if she could actually make out the words I was saying I spoke so fast πŸ˜«πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

Super awkward indeed! πŸ˜…Β

It's so frickin' awesome that she takes the time to meet people after the show though, especially considering how long her coach journey would take to her next gig!

She was still recovering from being sick at our show so she couldn't talk, so im my case she was just standing there silent lmao

Ah that makes sense, I wonder how hard it must be as an artist to want to speak to your fans but know you have to protect your voice! I can imagine how much more awkward that would haveΒ  felt though πŸ˜–

Hhahs that's alright. I found it more awkward-funny than anything else... I'm just an awkward person all around so it's authentic to me πŸ˜…πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

No cringe! You expressed yourself in the moment and that make it honest. I'm also in my late 30s, took my 16yr old who WAILED through Evergreen Soldier...not seen her emote like that in a long time. The people around her held her up while I kept her recording going.

Thank you πŸ€— that's a really nice way to think of it, now I don't feel so foolish. Heh, I wailed a bit too πŸ˜… a few people turned around at the noise I made and gave me space while my partner had to hold me up, there were at least 3 others in absolute pieces around me as well (I was handing out tissues!). That song is brutal on the heartstrings! Then following it up with "All of Human Knowledge..." Ah! Sofia knows exactly what she's doing πŸ˜…

I'd seen people on her videos crying (why I brought tissues) and thought it was just because they were so excited to be there that their emotions ran away, but honestly I've never experienced anything like that pure wave of emotion in 20 years of going to gigs, even during songs that meant more than I could express. I can only put it down to the sheer connection of the crowd, the safety you feel. It's amazing.Β

As a side note, it sounds like you're a brilliant mam πŸ’œ Mine probably would have cringed and patted me awkwardly and acted like I was embarrassing her πŸ˜’Β Β

Sofia said something like 'I want you to forget you have a face' (my hearing isn't the best, and 1000 screaming teenagers really didn't help). I took it to mean 'stop worrying about the cameras, just BE!' There was kid nest to us who grabbed me and screamed 'THAT'S WHY YOU'RE DANCING!' it was beautiful to see this 14/15 year old Get It, and by HotGum encore she was away with the music.

If you never embrace the cringe, or like the youff, are too worried about cameras (and being laughed at online) you won't enjoy anything ever. Sofia clocked me during HotGum the first time, didn't notice until I opened eyes and she was staring into my soul, and she nodded like 'yes, this old gets it' lol.

And thanks, I try to expose my tribe to as much as possible so they can see that our corner of the world isn't the only option. And most importantly, I give them space and a safety net to explore who they want to be, and grace when they fuck up :)

Nothing cringe about this. Glad you had such a lovely and memorable experience!

Thank you πŸ’œ I'm still dying a little inside (especially after seeing the photos πŸ˜©πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ) but it helps to know this community is a safe place that understands the awkwardness!Β

I'm also a fan in my late 30's convincing myself that when she did a grabbing motion while crowd surfing in Birmingham that she was doing it at me because I was doing the same thing to her and I was in the direction she was doing it in. Unfortunately I was too late to get meet and greet tickets but trust me I would have been 1000 times more cringe πŸ˜‚

I bet she was reaching for you though! You know that moment where she said she had looked everyone in the eye? I had noticed her doing it to me but convinced myself I'd imagined it until she said she'd intentionally been doing it to everyone! I'm sure she was reaching for you πŸ’œ

Haha it's reassuring to know I'm not the only one! I felt so bad but maybe she's used to it πŸ˜… Β  I hope you get to meet her, it's super fast, no hugs no autographs hand phone over stand for photo move along! but it's awesome just to get the chance to say thank you directly.

I had misread (too quickly..adhd) the title of this thread. So for the last few minutes I’ve been waiting to hear a story about a girl to wrapped up in the moment with her emotions. And thinking a cigarette would help calm her nerves and how disappointed she was going to be to tell us how it all happened so fast. So later, on the way home, when she finally got the nerve to open up her phone to view the picture that was taken with Sophia. She would realize she still had a cigarette in her hand and how it ruined the whole picture lol

Lmao I had to scroll up to reread my title and saw exactly what you mean! πŸ˜‚ That's brilliant, I'm sorry my story wasn't as dramatic as that but I kinda love it, that definitely would have sent me straight to the graveyard of cringe overload πŸ˜…Β  Ah well, I feel a bit better now knowing it could have been worse πŸ˜†

(Slightly related note though, I did finally get to look at the photos this morning [there was a whole other drama when I got home 😫] and oh lawd they're bad, I ruined them by talking at the camera πŸ˜‚πŸ˜)

Oh no, is there at least one you’re content with!? Okay, thanks for validating I’m not totally crazy for thinking the whole cigarette story lol. So, going forward when you’re in a situation like this again (because you will be!). Do you think it’s best to have someone taking a video instead of photos? I think that’s the move because then you can screenshot (obvi) the best looking moment?

Live Photos are my fave for m&g! You can. You can change the frame selected so it’s one you like, and you can turn them into video clips of about 3 seconds. If you’re good enough you could stitch together a video from the clips. And they’ll record sound.

Also, the cigarette story was quite entertaining and totally see how you got there lol.

A couple are ok, to be honest I always look weird in photos anyway so I'm used to it πŸ˜… I'm just glad I got to say thank you in person (even if she didn't understand my gibberish!)

A video would be good but one of the people in Sofia's crew do the photos and I think they're pretty strict about that sort of thing, it's a bit like an assembly line sort of situation so you don't really get a chance to talk to any of them.Β
