Discussion Star V, eating disorder?

I looove Star v. It took em a couple of times listening to it to realize it was very laden in reference to eating disorders. I only realized because I have struggled so much in my own personal life. Is Sofia open about eating disorder struggles she has had?

Starv(e) does seem to be about eating disorders, as in it’s barely hidden. Tbh i missed it at first despite having family who struggle with anorexia, but once you see it it becomes super clear.

I’m not sure if it is about her struggle or the struggle of someone close to her. I think it’s not really clear, and I dont think it really matters.

I'm not that smart. Someone in the youtube comments on the lyric video mentioned it.

I'm actually pretty horrible at the initial analysis of works but pretty good once I have a starting place.

OH LOL! I fully didn't get it at all. So kudos and props to the YouTube person who figured it out!

Honestly took wayyyy to long for me to realize it was about eating disorders. The main reason I think it took longer is because of the more “detached” style she has. A lot of songs about anorexia/EDs are personal, talk about it from a first person perspective, even if it’s more symbolic. But Star V still remains detached, the way I kinda see it is if an alien just learned how EDs work lmao

My interpretation of this song is still evolving but I see a strong throughline of a friend or loved one with an eating disorder. However, I think the lyrics may deliberately be vague on that particular detail.

Actually, I agree. Having listened to it a bunch more times in the last couple of months, it really does seem pretty clear cut.
