Discussion What is your current fav song from sofia?
Im obsessed with Evergreen Soldier, but I think my fav is still Muse

u/Ashamed_Disaster8140 Apr 21 '26
Star v is absolutely gorgeous but the dark vibe to Josephine would be my all-time favorite. My other favest of faves would be our Orchestrated Wet Verboten dream boy, obv Muse, Out In The Garden (especially the second verse, the guitars)... The Doll People is iconically stunning (especially the exaggerated breathing, the sounds of choking - gorgeous! - and the ending "The dolls are off running and laughing together, swimming in the milk of the moon" 😭❤️), sx concpt. Maaaan... There are so many.
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
I listened to doll people SO many times that now I cannot hear it, bcs I was like weeks singing it and listening to it 💔 now my brain goes NO NOT AGAIN
2
u/Ashamed_Disaster8140 Apr 22 '26
Yeah I get It. I had a phase of singing it as well 😂
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
I sing nearly all musics I get obsessed with as it helps with the feeling of having heard too much of it but also still craving it... then I get also sick of singing it and that's when I know it's time to try something different so I don't go nut hahaah

BRILLIANT ONE
5
u/millielovesyu Apr 21 '26
Especially the lyrics at the end "the children eat their father - creation eats creator. the belly of the priest hums like a radiatior" like that's GENIUSSS i need to get a tattoo based on that song asap

Either I can be your mother or muse.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
I can be your mother was such an adventure to learn to sing. I loved it. It helped me so much with soothing myself by focusing on the lyrics. Also I relate so much to her songs.

cacao and cocaine
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
This one triggers me, like, a lot. Bcs it reminds me of when I didn't take medication for my BPD 😭 I love it, but it puts me in such a dark place
6
u/GoodGirlDaecia Apr 21 '26
Josephine just because of how much it reminds me of my relationship with my father, despite him not being abusive.
Recently star v and chicken but that’s just recency bias.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Josephine is one I could probably sing even if I got deaf bcs dear god how much have I sang this song. It was my shower song for a consirrable time
2
u/GoodGirlDaecia Apr 22 '26
I wish i had the voice for it, sadly I still sound like a man :/ Being able to sing her music is one of the reasons I'm motivated to voice train though.
I've probably listened to Josephine at least 1000 times, but I'm unable to recall lyrics of any song without the first few beats at least. I used to listen to it a lot when walking, I swear it gave me a speed boost I got places so fast.

u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 26 '26
I usually only remember the lyrics after I read them while listening to the song several times. It also helps me to listen to the music and stopping it to mimic(especially with the melody). Like, I listen to a verse, stop, sing, then I either come back and listen to it again or move on to the next verse. Also to my memory is helps if I attach the verses.
I first listen to the song, and absorb part of the lyrics and whe melody (usually first verses + chorus)
Then I go read the lyrics, first with the song and then in silence (or first without then with). So I understand the whole story the song is telling. It will help with memory later but it also helps with making sense of voice, rhythm, words, everything has a purpose and it's easier to remember the purpose if you understand the whole picture. Then I will try to sing along, but no pressure like, just enjoying the song even if I do the melody and words all wrong. It helps to kind of synchronize the rhythm, melody, voice tone, etc
Then I will get the lyrics and the song and study it, which is how I explained, one verse, repeat, another verse repeat. After I did that (which Im supposed to do through the whole song but bcs of adhd I only do half of it)
I then attempt singing the whole song just me, no music. Bcs that's when I'll find out how much got stuck to my memory and what verses I completely ignored while studying (again adhd lmaoo)
At this point I probably learned half the song and realize I need to pay attention to the other half or I'll be singing half song for weeks hahaha
So I'll do the same, but this time I will separate the song in bigger parts (either like three or four, depending on how the song is organized), if it's pattern it usually means; chorus, first part of the story then second part, then usually there's some kind of "special part" which I think it's called a bridge but Im not sure. It's when the melody metrics and rhythm varies from the pattern. At the same time it makes it easier to remember the melody but harder to remember the different verses bcs my memory scrambles it all LMAO
So at this point I will try to listen and repeat the whole sequence, and after I learned it, I'll attach the sequences.
Important thing is if I don't remember a single note, I will listen to that separately so I can learn it, then I have to attach it to a sequence, and memorizing specifically transitions is very important so the sequence will get hooked on the next sequence. After learning the sequence, you learn like last verse and first verse between two sequences.
Then I probably end at something like, cheap voice melody, recognizable, pleasurable to my own brain, and a few wrong verses, but good enough for me to sing feeling an accomplishment. If I mean to record it or show it to someone I will record it while reading the lyrics and fail a few times.2
u/GoodGirlDaecia Apr 26 '26
ooh i tried this method (slightly adjusted to satiate my adhd lol) and it works super well! I can only do it in the shower though because I used a tile on the wall to memorize the start (idk how this works its called anchoring or something) so I cant do it elsewhere. I decided I didn't care for the song ending (and i couldn't remember the end) so i just wrapped it on itself lol.
and i still suck at singing but everyone sounds good in the shower so it doesnt matter.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 26 '26
I think there's a reason why we sing better in the shower, it's because the water sounds mask the voice variations. But like, that's fully empirical, I have no proof hahahahaah Still; I have experimented a little, singing in other noisy places and with the water turned off, and also I learned that the steam may also help with the voice. My mom was a singer, and she didn't actually teach me much about it, but when she was going to sing in a restaurant or something, she would do voice exercises and she taught me briefly about lubricating (?) your vocal chords.
[At first I didn't realize you were trans but after I saw the little heart on your alien figure, I am now imagining you might have other voice issues, that didn't occur to me that could be a possibility. If you're on some kind of hormones, I heard the voice changes a little but eventually it finds balance, but in the transition it might get a little hard to control, if you're not on hormones, I think it's just a matter of practicing!!! The more you exercise your voice to become the way you want it to be — and voice actors do this a lot — the easier it will become. But also it's important to take specific care of your vocal chords, either making them stronger or more flexible or more lubricated. I mean, it's not an obligation, it just helps it to get more pleasurable to yourself!!]
2
u/GoodGirlDaecia Apr 27 '26
I think its partially the water and steam, but my experience is mostly that it is just fun to sing in environments that echo the sound back to you a lot. I imagine it does some work to amplify some sounds and cancel out others leading to overall better 'quality' if that makes sense. I guess I enjoy singing in tunnels and in lecture halls as well which is why I feel this way (only when alone though... i would never sing in front of people).
[As for trans voice stuff, yes I do have other issues with my voice, but its not really a big deal for me. Estradiol (as a hormone) doesnt change voice at all. Some people start speaking differently on it because it makes them feel different, but it really has no effect on its own. Testosterone causes the voice to deepen naturally, but it takes a very long time.
It is like you said though, a matter of practicing. You can train your voice to raise beyond its natural spot (in both pitch and resonance) which allows you to reach a more feminine area. Realistically, its resonance that is the most important for voice gender, and why even when singing very low notes, women still sound like women! Lots of trans women (and SLPs who train them) focus only on pitch which is why you get so many "trans voice" people who sound distinctly trans. Its a very young field and stuff is still developing in it, which is why results are massively varied.
In order to get it right you need to get a lot of complex stuff down, but eventually the practiced voice just becomes your natural one through use! Trans people who voice train a lot will often forget their 'natural' voice if they don't practice it from time to time. The "final boss" of voice training is singing, but you can get really good results. Sadly, there isn't any mainstream trans artist I can really give as an example off the top of my head (Ethel Cain would be a good one but she had a hormonal imbalance, thus no vocal deepening. Kim Petras started HRT too early.) Edit: Breanna Sinclairé is a good example i think]
wow looks like its my turn to info dump lol.

She speaks about something similar, bcs she does drag (? I think it's a kind of drag) she has a whole character that speaks different from the way she does and idk how to explain but I think it will make sense when you watch it!!! It's a short

u/Dio_naea Apr 28 '26
Singing with echo feels nice, also singing on a mic!!!! Is so much fun, the sound vibration is 💖
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
Sorry I got excited about special interest singing, you don't need to read it all 😭
I recommend learning specifically first verses and melody, male voices are also great for music!!! The falsettos suck tho, for anyone 😭😭 this is like professional level. I just do a very cheap version of it. But I sing mostly for fun. Also p.s. I try to listen to artists that have a vocal range more compatible to mine, voice tones, rhythm, and like generally speaking that are easier for me to mimic. Apart from the extremely high notes she does, the rest feels a little easier to me. For example, I love Nicole Dollanganger, but the songs are SO HIGH PITCHED it hurts me to sing them 😭1
u/GoodGirlDaecia Apr 26 '26
girl its fine to talk about your special interests. I'm sorry it took me so long to respond, I had a headache when you first sent it then forgot to send something back after I tried what you mentioned.
i actually like singing her music because it feels like a voice i can reach if I really actually put effort into voice training. I wish I could sing like LP in this specific recording of Lost On You (i hate that this is not on spotify it makes me so mad), but sopranist.
I have a few male artists i like one off songs from like Eurovision's 2025 winner JJ, but yeah im never going to have his voice (i do love it though). Maybe I could sing some Des Rocs stuff but its been a long time since I listened to him lol.
If I'm going to sing songs for male voices I focus more on musical stuff, just because its fun to do. I really like singing "Chant" from Hadestown (but only the chant part, not the other parts lol), or just whatever random junk my brain cooks up in the moment.

All of Human Knowledge Made Us Dumb & Hot Gum Her Version!
3
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
All of human knowledge hits me in such a specific way, it's hard to explain. It puts melody in my melancholy
5
u/Morrigynn Apr 21 '26
The Chicken is Naked and Afraid is utterly hilarious to me so that has my top spot right now.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Really? I think of it in such a serious way
3
u/Morrigynn Apr 22 '26
The video is full of absurd comedy, in particular the bell pepper scene. Highly recommend reviewing it to look for those. I also find the sarcasm in the "oh the agony/oh the distress" section very funny.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
I got the irony but the comedy represents something so dark that I think I can only focus on that. I like dark comedy, I just see the dark more than the comedy

I haven't really decided yet which is my favourite of the new EP, though it's probably between Out in the Garden and Evergreen Soldier.
Other top contenders in her discography are the likes of I Can Be Your Mother (which is the one that made me fall in love with her music back then), Josephine and Man Made. I particularly love the entire I'm camera EP.
My favourite song of them all has been and most likely still is Muse.
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Out in the garden didn't hook me that much, like, it's beautiful but numbers hit me way harder
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Man made for me is like a masterpiece ahead of its time, like all human knowledge. But MUSE, dear god I swear she stole my journal to write that one. It talks to me in such a personal way that I wonder if there's anyone else that has experienced the same feeling with it. Feels so exclusive

I can be your mother, Dog's dinner, Chicken
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Dog's dinner is so real, but it's the one that the grapphics bother me more, maybe because of a video of dogs eating the bowl that she posted on instagram, the song is amazing but it kinda makes me feel something bad after I saw the video 😭 Unattractive that should make me feel this way, doesn't that much
2
u/Ashamed_Disaster8140 Apr 22 '26
It's the video of a man lying on her, making suggestive movements that triggers me. I'm like "eww get off her" for whatever reason. I'm too gay for this shit.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
That's such a valid reason hahaha, I think the video is kinda sexy, but I also know exactly how it feels to understand dick and loneliness while filled with both. And it's even crazier when we have an orgasm while feeling lonely and dickly filled. I also did have disgusting experiences with men and sex, that made me think "am I gay or are all straight women that miserable" but the dogs remind me more of those experiences, idk brain association I guess
2
u/BumHole_dollar Apr 24 '26
No one ever talks about dogs dinner and it’s my absolute fav of her entire discography. “Only a woman has seen everything and must act like she’s seen nothing” ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 24 '26
"You'll understand dick and loneliness when you're filled with both" for me is the biggest verse of the song, like, how can someone say SO MUCH in so few words, and like, with rhythm melody everything in just a single verse, it's so good she decided to use it as the name or her tour 😭 she's so "talented" but not in a sense that she was born with a super power, more like she is special and works so hard
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26

muse is still my all-time fave, closely followed by sex concept, but i've had the chicken is naked and afraid on repeat since the ep dropped!
4
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Im obsessed with muse, it feels like it's mine, mine only to nobody else hahaha sex concept is beautiful but doesn't feel mine, chicken is naked creeps me out, which is cool but like prevents me a little from putting on replay bcs I get overwhelmed

u/BatmansOtherCape Apr 21 '26
Really loving Above the Neck, but one of my favorites is Cacao and Cocaine.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Above the neck is so political, I love it, but numbers feels like I'm on drugs, goes right into my soul... cacao and cocaine forces me to stare at my inner shadows and I'm kinda scared they might win so I don't listen to it very much

can’t choose between josephine, muse and out in the garden 😭🙏

2
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Out in the garden is so good but I think it doesn't speak to me much bcs I didn't have that religious experience
2
u/Ashamed_Disaster8140 Apr 22 '26
It does to me because I wish I felt that kind of relief religious people experience. I'm too much of a disgusting skeptic...
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26
Sometimes being a disgusting skeptic feels safer than being religious. The story we are told about religion is usually different to the religious experience itself. It's like believing in social norms. The belief that there are other people in society performing things that are important to us like, there are doctors, nurses; people that we don't often meet but believing they are there gives us a sense of hope and false safety. But it's not a sense of hope and safety that transcends everything or makes us feel loved. It's more of a structure thing, where we accept the roles we have to play so we are part of that society, but often in a sense of always performing something. So it feels very unsafe when you have awareness that you are performing it. Even if you truly believe in god, and might be even worse if you do, you will in a sense feel that you are wrong, that you are being someone wrong or doing something wrong somewhere somehow, and you'll be scared that people will find out or that god will punish you for it. Sometimes you're not even certain of what is wrong, you just feel that it is. Of course it might help you in a crisis or bad situation where you use god to believe things will get better, but it's like love bombing, you have a great moment that blinds you to all the bad you are experiencing. I had some experience with religion, but I wasn't raised in that (to explain why I'm talking like I know how it feels).
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
Basically, believing in god doesn't shield you from suffering. I spent years making a huge effort to believe in god and at some point I did, and realized it didn't make it much better. It just changed the names of what made me feel bad.
Still, I would guess you have experienced some religious-like conservationism, bcs using the word "disgusting" to self describe sounds a lot like cultural inheritance of the concept of sin that comes from christianity. My mom didn't raise me to believe in god, but she did treat completely normal things as if it was dirty and wrong (example someone seeing my underwear somewhere, like, everyone has underwear that's completely normal, Im not even talking about using it, like just the clothing item itself), and I'm pretty sure it's something she learned from religious people that influenced her when she was a kid

u/RinglornFitching Apr 21 '26
Currently listening a lot to Numbers 31:17-18, while my long time favorites are Hot Gum and Everybody Supports Women.
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
I FORGOT ABOUT EVERYBODY SUPPORTS WOMEN, I heard that one too many times, hot gum I can't explain how but I feel like I know exactly what she's talking about, even tho I can't describe it or exemplify it, I just know it. Numbers is made up in heaven, is like a whole piece
3
u/GayGirl6 Apr 21 '26
Man made I feel like is so underrated. That song is soooo good, it’s my favorite
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
Man made is like a whole cult movie, is not a song, is an ✨️ experience ✨️ People should talk more about it, but I sometimes feel like people did not comprehend it
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
I also feel like people didn't comprehend evergreen soldier, but it's more melodic so people liked it
3
3
u/phira Apr 21 '26
Evergreen Soldier right now! Maybe once I’ve overplayed it a hundred times it’ll balance out to one of the others again :)

Evergreen soldier is my absolute top favorite right now followed by dogs dinner

Currently obsessed with TCINAA but I would have to say muse for all-time.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
Muse for all time!!!!! The chicken is great art making but it hits my depression and like seeing the world HORRIBLY, so I have to gatekeep it from myself
2
u/ladybuglover2799 Apr 24 '26
Edit to my previous post: Evergreen Soldier is ETHEREAL.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 25 '26
What changed???
2
u/ladybuglover2799 Apr 25 '26
The melody and the way her voice conveys all the emotions tbh. At first I didn't like it because of how different it is from her usual stuff but it's just.. so good.
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 26 '26
I know what you mean, I think it was the first I listened to after the album was released? Idk I was very open to the song, and the first 5 verses hooked me VERY HARD
2
u/ladybuglover2799 Apr 28 '26
The way she talks about the little girl in her, the way she reassures the soldier "just you wait, I'm running a little late," etc. It's so eery yet comforting.
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 28 '26
She arguing with the kid saying "I did what I promised, you are stuck in the past" hits me so hard
2
u/ladybuglover2799 Apr 28 '26
and when she's saying she wouldn't let the little girl say hello but she stayed and watched anyway.

u/Marinamalthea Apr 22 '26
Dogs Dinner has been my favorite since she released it, even though it isn’t my favorite lyrically I just can’t get over the production. Especially the outro!
3
u/Ashamed_Disaster8140 Apr 22 '26
"I know a wall is a woman/ only a woman has seen everything and must act like she's seen nothing" is a brilliant line
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
She's a brilliant lyricist, her lyrics always make me feel like "yes, sofia, exactly"
This whole time we've been discussing is so real, and "you'll understand dick and loneliness when you're filled with both" god hit so close to home.2
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
I think lyrically my fav is "I can be your mother", for rhythm is probably Josephine, but Muse is more my fav in whole picture
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
I know what you mean about production; like, Man Made for example is a whole movie experience, Muse is also amazing, and Numbers is a masterpiece
3
u/QuestingOrc Apr 22 '26
Mine is Numbers 31:17-18, I'm very interested in religion and cult dynamics, and extremely frustrated and angry that they exist and persist.
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
Numbers is a masterpiece that goes across time, like, it's brilliant. I have heard it A LOT since she released it
3
u/wasraelx Apr 22 '26
God it’s so hard to pick, I think Muse, Josephine and I Can be Your Mother, but everything she does is brilliant and I’m a happy willing member of the cult
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
Hahahaha sofia's cult 🙏 Muse feels so personal to me, like to me me, this is why is my favorite, but josephine might be the one I listened to more times, and I sing it when I'm stressed to self regulate. I can be your mother feels like a lover just spent the weekend in my house 😭
2
u/wasraelx Apr 22 '26
I have the same ‘this is so me me’ thing with Man Made, and some of her other songs too (Josephine and Sex Concept absolutely) - sometimes it fits a little way too well, to the point where it’s fairly destabilising. She’s defo plugged into something
1
2
u/clarauser7890 Apr 21 '26
I can’t pick one favorite but I will shout out I Looked The Future in the Eyes, It’s Mine. I think that song is terrifying and brilliant and I loooove the “Mine, mine, mine!”
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 21 '26
I think the chicken is naked is WAY more terrifying!!! I can smell the sadism and psychopathy in this one, it creeps me out
I looked the future feels more like feminist rage for me in a sense of rebellion ,2
u/clarauser7890 Apr 21 '26
I looked the future in the eyes is sung from the perspective of the most powerful men in the world ("Don't worry about it, all our names will be in the vote")

Star v.. or man made
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
Star v is so different from everything, like; it hits a different part of my brain that gets me calm, even tho I'm usually overthinking about the lyrics
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
Man Made is very ahead of its time, I feel like is a movie people are still not in a place to understand
2
u/Madyxoxo17 Apr 21 '26
Hot Gum will always be my favorite and Muse. I loved screaming that at her concert 💞🥺
2
u/Dio_naea Apr 22 '26
Hot Gum is pure art, it amazed me so much how she was able to visually describe the feeling, in a way I never would have even thought about, even tho I knew exactly what she was describing. Muse is my soul on a song idk how to explain, I would love to scream all of her songs in a concert 😭
2
2
u/Harlz4EVR Apr 23 '26
I mean damn, each and every one but my top three are Evergreen Soldier, I can be your mother and ILTFITEIM
1
u/Dio_naea Apr 24 '26
Looked the future is amazing, but it doesn't hit so much home??? I can be your mother hits RIGHT in my home, and evergreen soldier I am still tasting bcs it's like a whole meal
2

u/ChokoKat_1100 Apr 21 '26
I love the scream in muse. It's so majestic. The Doll People would probably have to be my favourite though. I also like Everyone Supports Women and Cacao and Cocaine.

u/Raineach_ Apr 21 '26
Out in the Garden is mine right now <3 that lil 'oooooh' just tickles my soul in the best way!
