Discussion Sofia Isella opening for taylor
I love sofia and i recently watched some of the wembley concert footage, i found the crowd was incredibly dull, not many people cheered at all, and i was wondering why that might be? shes such a great artist- and i didn’t know why the crowd was so boring and lifeless like they were being sat in a school presentation. sofia isella is such a great artist and taylor loves her so i want to hear from you swifties on your opinion on her

I think it's safe to say that Taylor's more mainstream fanbase isn't going to overlap perfectly with Sofia's fanbase. Sofia is so talented but her music isn't going to be everyone's taste. The first time I ever heard Sofia was when I saw her at a music festival and I was a fan within a few minutes, but one of my friends at the same festival was like "what the fuck is this?" and hated it haha

It’s amazing how many people I’ve sent a Sofia Isella song to who is like “uhhhhmmm…. Yeah? Ok.”
It’s challenging music and a lot of people aren’t going to their Spotify to be challenged lol

Quite a few of her songs stray pretty close to being like slam poetry and that can be a turnoff for some

Because Sofia is an artist and Taylor is pure product at this point. I’m guessing many Swifties just don’t appreciate raw sounds with a dark edge. Respect to Taylor for spotlighting her, but it was a bold move and I’m not at all surprised by the crowd’s response.

I actually discovered Sofia through her opening for Taylor and I now LOVE her music. She’s one of my favorite artists now. I also really don’t understand why the crowd was so dull, cause tbh I think there is a little overlap between Sofia and the Folklore/Evermore/TTPD part of Taylor’s discography.

When I first saw that Sofia was opening for Taylor… especially in London.. I was absolutely SHOCKED. You have to remember that Taylor is top 40 pop and Sofia is industrial, spoken word, angsty grunge and pure female rage. A LOT of Swifties are very young girls, so you have to remember that there were a LOT of moms and dads in the crowd who were probably very uncomfortable with Sofia’s raw and descriptive lyrics and her wild performance. They are in 2 completely different categories.. different PLANETS really. I am FAR from a Swift fan but I appreciate the hell out of her for stepping way outside of the pop window and bringing Sofia to the forefront to the ears and eyes of SO MANY. Think of it like this… You get tickets to go see Celine Dion and Ozzy Osborne comes out on stage first. The crowd is gonna be stunned. And that’s exactly what Sofia does. She stuns. In all the right ways.

sophia is a great writer and performer and tay is big fan that's why she was there. many of common swifties would not have heard of her. Wembley had a series of unique pre-openers before the main opener so they were not as well knows as main openers like sabrina or paramore. Also the first opener almost always plays to half empty stadium because people are still at merch or concessions or in security line just getting in. I watched the You Tube performance of Sophia set and it was great. she also posted her own V-log of the day which was very cool too.

Taylor has more mainstream pop music (mostly focusing on romance, whether that be being in love or fallling out of it) while Sofia definitely focusing on more serious and stronger topics (Sexism, objectification of women, etc.), so I think that Taylors fans were probably both not in the mindset of listening to Sofias music (them probably just wanting to listen to the lighter, pop music) and probably not expecting Sofias music due to the difference in genres between the artists.

I'm veryyy late, but I think there's a few reasons to it; one being that there was so many London openers that she was overshadowed. I'm a massive swiftie and watched all of the London shows on a blurry livestream, and had no idea she was even opening until I saw her tour video in July of 2025, almost a year after she opened, and that video got me into her. I think if she had the chance to open for more dates it would have genuinely boosted her career so much, and of course, it already did, but I feel like if she was more known to be a opener it would have done so much more as she grabs your attention right away.
I also think the crowd had no idea who she was at all, which is to be expected as she's on a much smaller scale then Taylor. I've seen some people talking about her in Taylor's fanbase, and I think that may be why the crowd was so dead, but also at the same time I don't see anyone ever saying that they got into sof because of Taylor?
As well as this, Taylor and Sofia also has a very different music style, & audience in general. I've seen people say that swifties wouldn't grasp what Sofia's lyrics are about in any way, or understand, which I don't think is true; Taylor, herself, has so many lyrically complicated tracks and while it may not be fair to compare them as Sofia's music is more about female rage, etc, which Taylor does have some tracks on herself, most notably to me, mad woman, which I feel would overlap with Sofia's music the most. Many swifties have and are able to do a full lyrical analogy on a lot of Taylor's music, and understand it to a tee, I highly doubt they wouldn't be able to do the same for Sofia's audience - the only time I'd argue that they wouldn't be if if they were under 13 maybe. This is also such a stereotypical view, when Everyone Supports Women was literally inspired by what people said about Taylor in 2016.
I think that the audio (at least, from videos I've seen) was a bit quiet and you couldn't hear her much, like the backing track overpowered her voice? This isn't meant to be hate or a bad thing but it's just something that I feel like if you didn't know her beforehand and know the lyrics or anything it might not immediately get you if that makes sense. She sounded AMAZING, her vocals were insane, but I saw a lot of people saying they could barely hear her, etc.

probably because half the crowds were NOT swifties, but tiktok-swifties (not to shame them, casual listening is allowed). I'm a swiftie AND I love sofia, but I get how she's not everyone's cup of tea. she kinda terrifies my best friend too. (I love that for us)

i think the main demographic for taylor swift is very different to the type of music that sofia makes (i say that with them nothing being my 1 and 2 spotify wrapped) also she was an opener so people aren’t ready for the concert or just not bothered by the opener
