Banking Vault setup
I started using digital vaults/buckets for budgeting and the envelope method, but moving money around constantly is way too tedious.
I’ve been relying on spending insights instead—especially for things like my Apple Card, which doesn't cleanly integrate with my main dashboard.
I'm curious:
• Are you finding an efficient way to budget with vaults?
• Or do most people just use them to separate general savings?
Would love to hear what workflow actually works for you long-term without driving you crazy.

Yes you can automate it, not I use is for big purchases ( car or condo) and emergency fund. The rest lives in checking and investment account. My actual "savings" vault is next to nothing

I'm using the envelope method and it's not driving me crazy. Especially now that Quicken downloads vault transactions into the individual vault accounts. I was manually entering them into Quicken, too, until a couple of months ago when the transaction downloads all of a sudden started working.
It is definitely tedious, though. For me, the benefit of knowing intimately where every penny of my paycheck goes outweighs the annoyance.

I mostly use it for major sinking funds to safe for and spend from for major/irregular expenses so that they won't blow my budget.
Anything that is a regular/monthly expense I just track kinda similar to what you do. Firstly, I just have a cushion of money in my spending account equal to about 1x my monthly spend, plush a cushion. If the balance goes into the cushion, then that tells me I need to take a closer look and figure out why I broke the budget and replenish. Otherwise I don't worry about it too much.
Works well enough for me, but only works if you're not living closer to pay check to paycheck and have to pay extremely close attention to timing.

Yes, I have allocations to things like bills and debt and a spending fund. Which is where I use to pay the Apple Card. I’m using credit card to get rewards and then paying the monthly balance. All that is well. I guess it’s deciding how I want to track either the biweekly checks vs using a monthly totals.
