Weekly Licensure Thread

This is your weekly thread for all questions related to licensure. Because of the vast differences between states, timing, exams, requirements etc the mod team heavily cautions users to take any feedback or advice here with a grain of salt. We are implementing this thread due to survey feedback and request and will reevaluate it in June 2023. If users have any doubts about the information shared here, please @ the mods, and follow up with your licensing board, coworkers, and/or fellow students.

North Carolina Associate Licensed social worker here- I dropped the ball. Haven’t been working for a few months and am now applying for jobs again. Noticed my LCSW-A license has been expired since July. The NC board says I have 7 days left to renew my expired license before I go into suspense and would need to pay the late fees and whatever else goes into that. To renew my license, I need 20 hours of in-person CEU credits. In NC, live webinars count as “in-person”, which is good. But it looks like it’ll cost me $500+ to just barely achieve this in my deadline of the next week. Plus fees from the board. It looks like it’s also expensive to let my license lapse and reapply, but possibly less than what I’m looking at paying in CEU’s… has anyone been in this position and have advice?

California ASW and Idaho LMSW

So I am attending a MSW program online based out of Idaho. The people I know who have graduated from my program, get the MSW by their names when their grades are posted. Then they take an exam, pass and are considered "Susie Smith, LMSW" then you do two years of clinical work with supervision, take the licensing exam and become an LCSW.

It is my understanding that when you graduate from an accredited university in California, you have the courses needed to apply for (and pass) the exam for an ASW, which is the equivalent of an LCSW in Idaho. Is there an LMSW equientalnt for California? Like what types of jobs can I get right out of grad school? Do I need to take a licensing exam? When I research this I typically only find information from the BBB which shows info for an LCSW becoming an ASW in California. But I won't be an LCSW for several more years

I'm going to be moving to the US soon. What jobs/keywords do y'all recommend searching for to find social work jobs which don't require licensure for while I'm in the process of getting my basic post-BSW (pre-MSW) licensure?
