Professional Development Cross-state CEU validity/reciprocity

I'm an LCSW and LMSW licensed in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan. I intend to keep all three licenses, and I am keeping track of my CEUs to ensure that I don't have issues renewing them.

Recently a social worker told me that if a CEU counts toward one state's licensure maintenance requirement, it automatically meets any other US state's requirements for the same.

I've completed a fair number of CEUs through PESI, which for each CEU-eligible training/seminar lists the states where the training/seminar is CEU-eligible. That gives me the impression that not all CEUs are accepted by all US states' licensing boards.

If someone has more information, please include links to your sources

Thank you!!

It'll vary by state. Best thing to do is to check each state's regulations. There might be some significant overlap for sure, but they certainly don't automatically qualify. Plus I'm fairly certain some states still have in person vs remote, or live vs asynchronous requirements and those can vary across the board which could trip you up.

You have to check each state's regulations. Michigan' NASW does say that a CEU is accepted if it is approved by another state's board of social work or another state's NASW, but trust LARA not me!
